Bremerton, WA Another popular Pacific Northwest camping site is Illahee State Park. Situated between Bremerton and Bainbridge Island on the Kitsap Peninsula, the park occupies 1,785 feet of saltwater frontage on the picturesque Port Orchard Bay. Stay active while you camp by using the park’s softball field, volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits, or plan a more laid-back day by moseying through the old-growth timber. Look no further than the Stephenson Canyon Park Trails for your hike at Illahee. Over a mile of trails lead to other hikes and waterfront parks throughout a nearly 30-acre spread.

Bainbridge Island, WA Just a short ferry ride from downtown Seattle, Bainbridge Island’s unique atmosphere feels like it’s a world away from the metropolitan hustle and bustle. Located on the northeast side of the island, Fay Bainbridge Park boasts nearly 1,500 feet of saltwater shoreline across its seventeen acres of marine grounds. Enjoy views of the Puget Sound and Cascade Mountains from its sandy beaches. The Ted Olson Nature Preserve Trail is the goto hike for visitors of the park. At just over half a mile, it’s an easy, all-ages hike that won’t take up a large portion of your day.

Bay View State Park

Mount Vernon, WA For those looking to camp and explore in Skagit County, Bay View State Park is your destination. With 66 acres of camping sites, a 175-person capacity beach shelter, and views of Padilla Bay, it’s the ideal site for a summer camping cookout. You’ll often see visitors flying kites, perusing the beach with metal detectors, bird watching, and gathering around the fire pits at night. The Padilla Bay Shore Trail is the perfect day trip. At just under four and a half miles with little elevation gain, you can walk along the saltwater edge of the Skagit River delta, catching glimpses of local wildlife along the way.


Deception Pass State Park

Anacortes & Oak Harbor, WA Deception Pass is Washington State’s most-visited state park. Spread out over 3,854 acres of pristine, forested Pacific Northwest terrain, it has become a top destination for locals and international travelers alike. With a variety of activities ranging from crabbing and diving to kayaking and swimming, Deception Pass has much to offer for campers looking to fill their schedules. During your stay, explore the West Beach Sand Dunes hike. At just over one mile long, it’s a hike the whole family can enjoy (leashed pets included). The hike takes you through forests and meadows, leading to stunning views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Moran State Park

Olga, WA If you’re familiar with Orcas Island, Moran State Park is the ideal foray into its camping grounds, and if you’re new to the island, it’s the perfect introduction. Offering 151 camping sites, over thirty miles of hiking, and five freshwater lakes for swimming, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities here. For those with an interest in horseback riding, the park also has six miles of horse trails. Hike the Cascade Falls trail while you stay at Moran. With a 200-foot elevation gain over three miles of trail, you’ll pass through old growth forest on your way toward Cascade Falls—the tallest waterfall in the San Juan Islands. Commercial Ave / August 5 & 6, 10 am – 6 pm August 7, 10 am – 5 pm Join Anacortes locals and visitors alike at the Anacortes Arts Festival the first weekend in August. The festival stretches down Commercial Ave all the way to the Port Dock on the Guemes Channel waterfront, where you’ll find artisan craft makers, beer and wine gardens, vendors, artists, and plenty of food trucks. The festival is free to attend.

Stanwood Camano Arts Festival

Camano Commons / June 24 – 26, 10 am – 5 pm Ring in the summer solstice at the Stanwood Camano Arts Festival. You’ll find nothing but handmade items sold by vendors here. With additional events being put on by local artists and several culinary options to choose from, this arts festival will make you feel like summer has truly begun.

Edmonds Summer Market

Edmonds Museum / Saturdays May 7 – October 8, 9 am – 2 pm Throughout the spring and summer, Edmonds hosts a flourishing market with nearly 100 family-owned vendors. Each farmer grows their own fresh produce and each artistic crafter brings handmade goods, filling the storied Edmonds Museum with a surplus of souvenirs. The Edmonds Summer Market is an open invitation to support local businesses.

Founded in 1990, the market delivers on handmade goods and live entertainment every Saturday (rain or shine).

Bremerton Summer Brewfest

Bremerton Boardwalk / July 22 – 23 With dozens of Northwest breweries all in one place, Bremerton Summer Brewfest is heaven on earth for beer lovers. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door, with a discounted ticket price available for those with military ID at $20. Gig Harbor Garden / June 25 & 26, 12 pm – 6 pm For those looking to connect with nature this summer, the Gig Harbor Garden Tour is a self-guided tour of gardens in the Gig Harbor area. All tickets purchased come with a booklet that includes directions to and detailed descriptions of the gardens on the tour.

Kirklandia Waterfront Festival

Kirkland Marina Park / June 10 – 12 A three-day festival located on the shores of Lake Washington, the Kirklandia Waterfront Festival combines food, music, beer, and cider into one high-spirited event. This festival is for wine enthusiasts, cider lovers, and foodies alike, with over 100 beverage styles and plenty of food to choose from. Keep the party going into the night by listening to DJs, playing games, and entering fun competitions.

The Junction – Downtown West Seattle / July 15 – 17 For West Seattleites, Summer Fest begins a day early on July 14 with a special locals-only Summer Fest Eve. Athletes will start with a halfmile swim across Goss Lake, followed by a 19-mile bike ride on beautiful island roads with views of the North Cascades, and end with a 3.75-mile trail run to the finish line.
