Sau gn-gone ... New Zealand dominates the Sauvignon Blanc market, however, a perfect storm of weather and pandemic-induced issues has resulted in a shortage of the popular grape. Nobody panic!

e may have had a tough couple of years in the UK, but New Zealand's wine producers have been battling a perfect storm of unfortunate events as they strive to meet the increasing demand for their coveted Sauvignon Blanc. So, despite the winemakers' best efforts, 2022 looks likely to see a shortage of the firm favourite.

Mother Nature levelled a raft of adverse climate conditions at the country in 2021, which compounded issues already in place as a result of pandemic-induced restrictions, labour shortages and supply challenges. The 2021 harvests in Marlborough, Wairarapa, Nelson and North Canterbury were down around 20 per cent due to early budbursts, extreme spring frosts and summer drought conditions.
