What sets Magpie Collective apart is its diverse range of offerings. Despite dealing with a raw space initially, the building’s charm made it easier to attract vendors who could see the potential. Since its inception, the collective has been rapidly evolving, continuously adding new vendors and expanding its product offerings.
Magpie Collective thoughtfully selects its vendors to ensure a unique shopping experience with minimal overlap in products. The focus is on offering a variety of items that cater to different tastes and preferences, including vintage and second-hand household furnishings, crafty items such as tumblers, plants, jewelry, handmade soaps, pottery, crystals, books, and original art.
Magpie Collective buzzes with high energy, hosting a variety of events designed to engage and inspire the community. From pop-ups featuring local artisans to interactive workshops and art-inspired gatherings, engaging activities are always plentiful. Upcoming workshops include mixed-media art, furniture chalk painting, and bath and beauty product creation, promising hands-on creativity and fun. Starting in September when the weather cools down, the monthly Mischief of Magpies Sunday market day is a vibrant highlight, featuring food trucks and live music that transform the space into a lively and enjoyable atmosphere, perfect for socializing and discovering unique treasures.

The sense of community and shared passion for creativity make Magpie Collective a special place, filled with good vibes.
Looking to the future, Magpie Collective plans to expand further, potentially adding another level to accommodate more vendors and offerings. The goal is to make Magpie Collective a destination spot, constantly evolving and layering new elements to keep the experience fresh and exciting.

Union Station, Wichita Falls, Texas
WICHITA FALLS RAILROAD MUSEUM
500 9th St. 940.386.1626
Wichita Falls, Texas, a city celebrated for its rich history and vibrant community, owes much of its development and economic growth to the arrival of the railroad. The story of railroad service in Wichita Falls is one of ambition, innovation, and transformation, reflecting the broader narrative of the American West during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The railroad’s arrival in Wichita Falls can be traced back to the late 1800s, a period marked by rapid expansion and industrialization across the United States. Visionaries Joseph Kemp and Frank Kell were instrumental in bringing the railroad to Wichita Falls. In 1882, the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway (FW&DC) completed its line through the city, connecting it to the vast network of railroads that crisscrossed the nation.
This development was transformative for Wichita Falls. The railroad provided a critical link between the city and major markets, facilitating the efficient movement of goods and people. It played a pivotal role in the agricultural and cattle industries, which formed the backbone of the local economy. Farmers and ranchers could now transport their products more efficiently and cost-effectively, opening new opportunities for trade and commerce.
However, the rise of automobile travel and the development
the Interstate Highway System led to a decline in passenger rail service. Freight transportation also shifted, with trucks becoming a more dominant mode of transport. By the 1970s, many of the rail lines serving Wichita Falls had either been abandoned or repurposed.
Despite these challenges, the legacy of the railroad in Wichita Falls endured. The city’s rail infrastructure was adapted to meet new needs, with some lines continuing to operate for freight service. The railroad’s impact on the city’s growth and development remains a point of pride for residents and historians alike.
To preserve and celebrate this rich history, the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum was established. Located in the heart of the city, the museum is dedicated to showcasing the importance of the railroad in Wichita Falls and the surrounding region. Housed in a historic depot, the museum features a variety of exhibits, including vintage locomotives, railcars, and other artifacts.
Visitors to the museum can explore the history of the different rail lines that served Wichita Falls, learn about the railroad’s role in the local economy, and discover the stories of the people who worked on and around the trains.
One of the museum’s highlights is its collection of restored locomotives
and railcars, including a 1906 steam locomotive, a 1940s-era diesel engine, and various passenger and freight cars. Each piece tells a story, offering a glimpse into the past and the technological advancements that shaped the railroad industry.
After a period of closure, the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum is thrilled to announce its grand reopening. This beloved local institution, dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of railroads in the region, has undergone significant renovations to enhance the visitor experience. The museum, housed in a historic depot, now features updated exhibits, interactive displays, and a meticulously restored collection of vintage locomotives and railcars. With its reopening, the museum aims to continue its mission of educating the public about the pivotal role of railroads in the development of Wichita Falls and providing a nostalgic journey back in time for train enthusiasts of all ages. The community eagerly anticipates the return of this cultural landmark, which stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the railroad industry in North Texas.
Looking ahead, there is a possibility that passenger trains may once again serve Wichita Falls. Amtrak has a preliminary route that would connect Houston to Dallas, Wichita Falls, and Denver. Such a development would be another transformative milestone for Wichita Falls.

— CHEF ANAND CHATURVEDULA, FOX HILL RESTAURANT
Written by Heather Preston
Perched upon a hilltop in Wichita Falls once known as Bluebonnet Hill, Fox Hill Restaurant & Gardens is a sanctuary where time slows down, and the beauty of nature intertwines with culinary craftsmanship. Housed in a meticulously-restored, century-old home sitting upon eight acres of cultivated grounds and gardens, the restaurant exudes an air of timeless elegance and serenity.
Rooted in the passion of owner John Hirschi, Fox Hill represents more than just a culinary venture; it’s a manifestation of a lifelong commitment to gardening and sustainability. Raised on a farm, Hirschi has long held a deep reverence for the land and a profound understanding of the importance of mindful food practices. His outlook towards food and nourishment forms the cornerstone of Fox Hill’s culinary philosophy built upon the principles of farm-to-fork and fork-to-soul dining.
Nearly every ingredient that graces the plate is grown onsite, nurtured without the use of pesticides or herbicides from the accompaniments to entree dishes, and verbal daily specials to the mint and jalapeño in the signature cocktails. From locally-sourced, grass-fed, and hormone-free beef and poultry to sustainably-sourced, wild-caught seafood, every dish at Fox Hill is a testament to the restaurant’s unwavering commitment to quality and sustainability.
The enchantment of Fox Hill extends far beyond its culinary offerings—it begins the moment guests step onto the serene restaurant grounds. The enchanting gardens that surround the restaurant feature meandering pathways lined with vibrant blooms, lush foliage and terraced beds, each bursting with an abundance of seasonal herbs, vegetables, and flowers. The original house, lovingly restored to its former glory, serves as the centerpiece of this idyllic oasis. Its historic charm and timeless elegance serves as a fitting backdrop for the culinary delights that await within.
As guests step through the door, they are greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance, courtesy of soft, ambient lighting that gently illuminates the original hardwood floors and crown molding. Every detail is thoughtfully curated to evoke a sense of peace and tranquility, from the elegant black tablecloths to the fresh-cut floral arrangements. The staff at Fox Hill is renowned for their warmth and expertise, eager to provide recommendations and serve as culinary guides. Many regular patrons forego the menu altogether, placing their trust in the chef’s capable hands to design the perfect dining experience. Fox Hill aspires to be a place where one can relax and allow someone else to make the choices on one’s behalf without fear of disappointment.
Able to make even the humblest of vegetables sing, Chef Anand Chaturvedula’s culinary creations are a testament to his passion for seasonal ingredients and innovative flavors. One of his standout dishes is the pakoras, a delightful medley of seasonal vegetables lightly battered in chickpea batter and served atop a mother’s black mustard seed tomato chutney. For dessert, guests are treated to the signature campfire—a whimsical creation featuring house-made marshmallow ice cream, ample chocolate ganache, and crumbled graham crackers, served tableside in a smoking cloche that evokes memories of summer evenings gathered around a crackling fire.
Fox Hill is more than just a restaurant—it’s an invitation to slow down, savor the moment, and relish the simple pleasures of life. Amidst the tranquil beauty of nature, amidst the warm embrace of hospitality, Fox Hill is a sanctuary where guests can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with what truly matters. Surrounded by the beauty of the gardens and the elegance of the dining room, guests can savor the joys of good food, good company, and the timeless beauty of nature—a sanctuary for the soul in a world that often moves too fast.

Texoma’s Hidden Gem came to be through the hard work and passion of a grandfather/son/grandson trio. After grandfather Gary Hart passed away due to cancer in 2011, his son and daughter-in-law eventually moved to the ranch and worked to bring to life Gary’s dream of transforming the barn and surrounding area into a space for public gatherings. The barn was transformed into an intimate indoor venue space, the bunk house a bridal suite, the tool room a grooms’ room, and the tack room became a bar sitting area/poker room.
From intimate sunset to chuck wagon style weddings, Rustic Hart Ranch & Venue sits on 14 acres of elegantly rustic ambiance all hidden away from the rest of the world. The beautiful, breathtaking scenery of the ranch is the perfect settings for weddings, showers, quinceañera, and more. If you appreciate the beauty of country living and dream of a rustic country wedding, this is the venue for you!

With its efficient check-in process, comfortable waiting areas, and ample parking, the airport ensures a hassle-free travel experience.
One of the unique attractions at Wichita Falls Regional Airport is the Jenny to Jet Exhibit, an educational display that traces the fascinating history of aviation in North Texas. This exhibit is a must-see for aviation enthusiasts, history buffs, and curious travelers alike.
The Jenny to Jet Exhibit takes visitors on a journey through the evolution of flight, from the early days of biplanes to the modern jets that dominate the skies today. The exhibit is named after two iconic aircraft: the Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny”, one of the most famous training planes used during World War I, and the advanced jet aircraft that are part of the current aviation landscape.
