Did You Know?

M

ost of the time I feel very behind when it comes to technology. I’m in my happy place with a good book, a good friend, and the good ole’ sunshine streaming through the trees in the woods. I’ve been getting along just fine, thank you very much, while the world whizzes by me at record speed, my nose happily in a book...yes, one with real paper pages. Until recently I prided myself on my resistance to all the hype about electronics. I’ve even been known to exclaim, with more than just a hint of arrogance, that I don’t have my phone configured to receive emails. Until recently, that is, when I decided it was time to get my technology swagger on. I set the intention to make friends with technology. I could see there was a whole ‟reality” to modern life I was missing. It was daunting at first, I must admit, the thought of opening what I was sure would be Pandora’s box. But lo and behold, while I’ve been stubbornly determinded not to engage technology, it has been mysteriously catching up with my interests and abilities. I’ve discovered several new technologies recently that have become a seamless part of my life. I no longer feel like technology is the enemy, but rather a wonderful friend with which to play. And not only that, but guess what? The whole world is opening to me, not closing. Hmm, I think that might be one of the things they say about technology, it opens the world to you. Well, I might be several years (maybe even decades behind) but I finally agree. I’m excited about my new adventure in the land of technology and I’m eager to share it with you. I no longer feel behind, in fact, I might even say I’m on the cutting edge. LOL. (That means Laughing Out Loud, who knew?) Did you know...there’s a cool new website called Learn It Live? I had no idea until I was contacted by the company’s president and was asked to be an online instructor in the Spirituality Center with leaders and thinkers such as don Miguel Ruiz, Shakti Durga, and Arielle Ford. It turns out the site is super user friendly and easy to navigate. After letting the invitation sit in my inbox for a month, I finally decided to check it out and immediately felt a strong resonance with the clean, contemporary design. I quickly replied and scheduled an informational call with the president, after which I was more excited than ever to get started, and wha la, I’m scheduled to teach my first class at the end of September. You can check it out at www.LearnItLive.com and www.Spirit.LearnItLive.com Did you know...there’s a brand new live streaming social media app called Periscope? This technology is amazing! Seriously, I’ve become a Periscope-guru in no time. And most importantly, I’m having so much fun. Periscope was purchased by Twitter in June and has absolutely exploded. Within the first two months it had almost six million users and that number has grown exponentially ever since. What makes Peri-

scope so special is that it allows anyone to stream video live any time, any place. Live viewers can spontaneously engage via chat and show love by tapping the screen and sending colored heart icons to the broadcaster. One of my favorite aspects of Periscope is that it is breaking down all plastic barriers regarding image. People regularly broadcast (in Periscope terms, ʽscope’) early in the morning, still in their pajamas, with bed-head and no make-up. Because the goal is not to impress, but rather to connect...in real life, on real terms. Watch out Hollywood, the new ‟stars” don’t buy into perfectionism when it comes to image. Did you know...I gave a sneak-peek of this issue to my Peri viewers? Another of my favorite things about Periscope is that it allows me to connect with my peeps in ways I never could before. While working on the layout for this issue of Whole Living Journal I ʽscoped’ a behind-the-scenes look at my office and shared the content scheduled for the new issue. I showed viewers my computer screen and gave a sneak-peek of Dr. Wayne Dyer’s new book, which had been exclusively emailed to me by the publisher as a pdf document. Viewers commented and asked questions live, and they even helped me decide which excerpt to publish in this issue! Did you know...Gabrielle Bernstein is on Periscope? She is. And she’s so darn cute. In her first couple scopes she was candidly enthralled with the technology. She kept squealing into the camera and saying hello to everyone who was logging in. Her wide-eyed innocence confirmed the strides I’ve made in my relationship with technology. You can find me on Periscope, Twitter, and Instagram at @TaraLRobinson1. Did you know...TEDx Cincinnati is awesome? Again, I had no idea. When I was invited to speak, I knew Anthony Munoz and Thane Maynard would be there. I assumed they were the headliners and that all the rest of the speakers would be local experts like myself. Boy was I wrong. I would have never guessed I was in Cincinnati. The speakers came from all over the world to share their ideas at this high-profile event. Paul Hickey, the founder of Bitcoin, a new online global currency, flew in from his private island to give a talk. And Elizabeth Smart’s father was there to discuss his passion for ending human trafficking since his daughter’s nightmare kidnapping. There were five cameras rolling from different angles so the videos took a while to edit. However, by the time this issue is published, my talk should be up on the TED YouTube channel. I highly recommend going next year, but tickets sell out fast. Did you know...artist Pic Michel ʽblogs’ to each WLJ cartoon? Guess what? I had no idea! Until recently, that is, so we decided to feature one of her blogs in this issue because it’s pretty swaggy the way she dissects the deeper meaning of each cartoon. EnJOY!

Come Join the Brightest Game Changers in Town! Infusion Cincinnati is a FREE monthly gathering open to the public with discussions every month town-hall-style about living with passion and purpose. It’s like TEDx, with a spiritual twist. Join us as we explore how to live with passion and purpose, in the flow. Infusion goers are adventurers and (r)evolutionaries who get together to share aha moments and soul nourishment. The goal: shining powerfully together so we can light up this city! Each meeting includes music and a speaker to kick off the discussion, but then the mic is open and everyone has an opportunity to share what they think about the topic, or what makes them light up inside. What are your passions? What᾿s on your heart? We want to know! Prefer not to talk? That᾿s okay, we invite you to listen and be inspired. In July, Bob Berberich led the discussion and explained how feeling our feelings can help us access our internal clarity and wisdom. In August, Jen Flick opened the conversation and storytelling about how recongizing synchronicity can lead us into our Joy. Andrew Flint took the stage and dazzled us with his music. Infusion meets every 2nd Tuesday, 6:30-8pm at Rohs Street Cafe, 245 W. McMillan St, 45219. Please leave extra time for parking, and plan to stay after for coffee and conversation. Divine

Curiosity

& the Limitations of Science by Jill Renee Feeler

H

umanity is far more powerful than we imagine, even on an individual level. When we begin to give ourselves more credit, the credit of Conscious Creator energy, we soon realize the divine empowerment within us. How do we access it? By using it. By transitioning from complaining to exploring solutions. By expanding beyond fear that paralyzes and into fear that pushes you beyond your own boundaries of reality. A cosmic perspective is helpful. This reality has been in quarantine, of our own creation, allowing us to separate ourselves from each other and from Source Creator God consciousness. We were never really separate, that is only the design of any Separation Age. Only in consciousness were we separate. And that is enough. Because consciousness is…everything. The quarantine lifts through a process of divine intention to push…ourselves, from the inside out. It’s like a pre-wired orientation for most of us reading an article of this nature. We sense there is more. And we are correct. We are Curious. We love, from our Source energy layers. We desire for all to be empowered and connected with the unconditional love and conscious creator ability only available within Source energy. We are quite literally pre-wired for expansion beyond the Separation Age experience. Therefore, play with your fear. Be curious about your limitations. Test yourself at how divinely powerful you are. Know your core values and examine whether you are honoring them in all facets of your life. Allow yourself to be a new version of you, at any moment you desire it. This isn’t science fiction. This is human evolution. Conscious Creation. Divine intelligence being operated from within humanity. For those waiting for “proof” from science, you are choosing an observer role, as opposed to a Creator role. Science in its present form is a lagging indicator, based entirely on the five human senses. The five human senses experience what IS, which has already been created. Our five human senses and our Science are considering only the outcomes of our creator

ability within the physical dimensions of Earth and using it to explain and define our very existence. Present day science has been a perfect formula to maintain the quarantine and stabilize the status quo. Science in its standard form on Earth at this state of affairs doesn’t get it and I’ve stopped asking it to. I appreciate Science for what it does, appreciating its inherent and significant limitations. Explorers don’t wait for what can be proven. We Create, so it can be proven. Divine intelligence comes through us from beyond the five human senses, from a deeper, inner level of wonderment and curiosity. This is where authentic discovery and exploration begins, within us. Based on our actions, behaviors and what we set in motion it then becomes physical, and able to be experienced by our five human senses. So enjoy that meal, knowing it emanated from an inner vision, an idea. Appreciate this read, understanding it flowed from a layer of divine intelligence within me. Consider that each human also has a connection within to divine intelligence, possibly lying dormant because that is what this age has been about. Get connected by getting curious, going within. With love and gratitude and a playful kick in the ass if needed. About the author: Jill Renee Feeler is a speaker, published author and guide for restoring humanity’s divine origins. Her work is appreciated by leaders within the global spiritual and consciousness arenas. She bypasses the limitations of this Age, linking humanity directly to its eternal energy field, its inherent Sovereignty. www.JillReneeFeeler.com She will be live on Waves of a New Age WAIF 88.3FM Nov. 3rd, 3:30-4:30pm ET. waif883.org

Taking

Next Breath the

The Art of Leaping by C. Pic Michel

T

he caption to this cartoon is one of those statements that push us to think about the things we hold onto. The “leap” can be about making big changes which seem so due to the implications of the unknown. In responsible, obligation-based culture, leaps should be calculated and not undertaken without knowing everything we can about where we might land in order to keep us safe from harm. The truth is we would all be dead if we did this at the most fundamental level. Breathing is a good example. There is a leap to every breath we take. We rarely micromanage our breathing even though we can never be sure what will fill our lungs and affect our senses. There may be pleasant scents of cake and we will feel hungry. Or, there could be the poisons of smog or the smell of skunk and we might hold our breath trying to avoid what is unpleasant, but it’s already in us. There is no time to test, measure, or manage the next breath. Without knowing for sure, we have to take the leap of inhaling or we will absolutely die. As a matter of taking the next breath we must let go of the breath we have taken no matter how good it was. There is no time to sort through it and see if there is something salvageable; we must let go or we will surely expire. Because it’s so important that we breathe we don’t think about it very often. But to be mindful of the breath is to be mindful of what life is about at its very essence. We can plan, but we can’t know for sure what will happen next and we must move forward regardless. There’s no sense worrying about it. Like the breath we just have to go with the flow. Like the butterfly in the drawing, we can take the advice of the teacher on the precipice, and move on without fear of falling. Breathing is faith well practiced, that what we need will be abundantly available to us as it is required. Mindfulness of this truth makes every day a little easier. Breathe easy.

Biology of Belief I Want to be

Me!

by Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D.

T

he 10th anniversary edition of Bruce Lipton’s best-selling book The Biology of Belief will be released in October. This edition will be updated with the latest scientific discoveries that support the book’s premise—and there has been a lot in the last 10 years. The Biology of Belief is a groundbreaking work in the field of new biology. Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D., is a former medical school professor and research scientist. His experiments, and those of other leading edge scientists, have examined in great detail the mechanisms by which cells receive and process information. The implications of this research radically change our understanding of life. It shows that genes and DNA do not control our biology; but instead, DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our positive and negative thoughts. This profoundly hopeful synthesis of the latest and best research in cell biology and quantum physics is being hailed as a major breakthrough, showing that our bodies can be changed as we retrain our thinking. The following is an excerpt from The Biology of Belief, 10th Anniversary Edition by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. It is published by Hay House (October 2015) and is available in bookstores and online at www.hayhouse.com “If you could be anybody, who would you be?” I used to spend an inordinate amount of time pondering that question. I was obsessed with the fantasy of changing my identity because I wanted to be anybody but me. I had a good career as a cell biologist and medical school professor, but that didn’t make up for the fact that my personal life was, at best, a shambles. The harder I tried to find happiness and satisfaction in my personal life, the more dissatisfied and unhappy I became. In my reflective moments, I resolved to surrender to my unhappy life. I decided that fate had dealt me a bad hand, and I should simply accept it. Que sera, sera. My depressed, fatalistic attitude changed in one transformational moment in the fall of 1985. I experienced a scientific epiphany that shattered my beliefs about the nature of life. My life-changing moment occurred while I was reviewing my research on the mechanisms by which cells control their physiology and behavior. Suddenly I realized that a cell’s life is fundamentally controlled by the physical and energetic environment with only a small contribution by its genes. Genes are simply molecular blueprints used in the construction of cells, tissues, and organs. The environment serves as a

10

Living W h o l e Journal

“contractor” who reads and engages those genetic blueprints and is ultimately responsible for the character of a cell’s life. It is a single cell’s “awareness” of the environment that primarily sets into motion the mechanisms of life. As a cell biologist I knew that my insights had powerful ramifications for my life and the lives of all human beings. I was acutely aware that each of us is made up of approximately fifty trillion single cells. On a personal level, I knew at the moment of insight that I had gotten myself stuck simply by believing that I was fated to have a spectacularly unsuccessful personal life. I was exhilarated by the new realization that I could change the character of my life by changing my beliefs. I was instantly energized because I realized that there was a science-based path that would take me from my job as a perennial “victim” to my new job as “co-creator” of my destiny. It has been thirty years since that magical night when I had my life-changing moment of insight and ten years since I published the first edition of The Biology of Belief. We are living in exciting times, for science is in the process of shattering old myths and rewriting a fundamental belief of human civilization. The belief that we are frail, biochemical machines controlled by genes is giving way to an understanding that we are powerful creators of our lives and the world in which we live. The times are indeed changin’, which is why I’m particularly excited about this tenth-anniversary edition of The Biology of Belief. In fact, I thought about a new title for this edition: The Biology of Belief and Hope. As for me, I am ever thankful for that moment of insight, which enabled me to create my now wondrous life. My life is so much richer and more satisfying that I no longer ask myself: If I could be anybody, who would I be? For me, the answer is a no-brainer. I want to be me! About the author: Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D., cell biologist and lecturer, is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit. Bruce was on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine and later performed groundbreaking stem-cell research at Stanford University. He is the best-selling author of The Biology of Belief, The Honeymoon Effect, and Spontaneous Evolution. In 2009 Bruce received the prestigious Goi Peace Award (Japan) in honor of his scientific contribution to world harmony. Website: www.brucelipton.com

MERAKI There is no beginning and no end to the powerful love that you are... I saw your purple rose heart at the bottom of my life's treasure bag among so many other gifts...and we played like fairies do...with nature essences and laughter, with movement metaphors and the visions of new cells arising from the Source within. I see HER (the Beloved One) in every smile and breath that you offer the world. Enchantment begins with one creative pause at a time and you have found that inner rhythm knowing it transfers to everything we touch... the very sound of our voices echoing into these birthing places of brand-new creations. And this is it... MERAKI (your own Self has become the work) There is no beginning and no end to the Mother, the Teacher, the Wife, the Beloved of Life and Creatrix of the Cosmos. She has already imbued everything. ~ Cezarina Trone

’m not sure if I can put your ankle back together again.” I heard those words in April 1997 in an emergency room in Atlanta, GA. Both ankles were broken, the left shattered badly. We proceeded with surgery. Many screws and a plate were inserted. With both feet in a cast, I couldn’t put any weight on the left but I was told that the right foot had to be my “good” foot. I progressed from the walker to crutches and then a temporary cane. I was out on disability for three months after the accident and wasn’t able to return to the apartment where I lived due to stairs. My family, back in Cincinnati, was busy with a hospitalized parent. I definitely felt alone. It took a year of therapy to get me walking “normally” again. During physical therapy, my gait was analyzed. Therapists recommended arch supports to help stabilize my collapsing arches. It was a hallelujah moment because these were my ninth and tenth broken ankles! After the third one took place during my high school years, the doctor had called me a klutz and shrugged it off. Growing up, my ankles hurt and even burned when I did physical activities. Now I knew why. Arch supports made all the difference. The burning was gone and I was stable. That’s the story of my physical journey, but there’s also the mental, emotional, and spiritual side. I learned about real friendships as people I socialized with disappeared when I needed help. The “angels” who stepped up were people who had been through some rough times in their own lives – giving them compassion and a desire to pay-it-forward that has carried through in me. I also learned that healing is a matter

of choice. A person told me that many people who have gone through similar experiences just give up. It never occurred to me. I expected to walk again and so I did. As I’ve been on my journey, which now includes owning a store focused on using arch supports and well-designed shoes to feel and perform better, I’ve learned more about the feet from multiple perspectives and I find it fascinating to look at “stories.” Foot issues aren’t always initially triggered in the physical world. Lack of proper grounding can cause challenges. Issues such as a fear of moving forward (fear of change) may manifest through the feet. Foot problems may be tied through reflexology to parts of the body and could indicate anger, as well as survival, relationship or communication issues. I know some of these were true for me and they may be true for others. There are those who could never be comfortable working with feet. I see my work as a sacred calling, and through my work I strive to provide healing compassion for the discomfort and pain I see in other people’s struggles.

Remembering Heaven

Do We Choose OUR Parents? by Dr. Wayne Dyer

(Exercpted from Memories of Heaven, Hay House 2015)

I

recall a humorous conversation I had with one of my daughters when she was seven years old. Serena was the child who persistently observed my parenting behavior, and was quite frequently very vocal about expressing her displeasure whenever my actions did not meet with her approval. On this particular day, I stopped her from complaining about me and said, “I’m doing the best job I know how to do as your father. If you don’t like the way I’m parenting you, I suggest that you stop whining about me, and instead take full responsibility for my actions yourself. You are the one who chose me to be your father, and if you think I’m inadequate in this role, you should be blaming yourself for the bad choice that you made.” She looked at me quite quizzically and replied, “You mean to tell me that I actually picked you to be my father, and Mom to be my mother?” She put her hands on her hips and said, “I must have been in a hurry.” I’ve always loved this story, and although I was being a bit facetious at the time, in the ensuing years I have come to regard that conversation as having a whole lot more validity that I once could even imagine. The literature on past-life research seems to support this idea that there actually is a selection process, often in cooperation with “God,” Whom children often define as a loving, happy presence, in deciding who will be the actual parents for this newly arriving baby from the world of Spirit. When you consider the concept of an infinite universe supported by a Divine consciousness in which “All things are possible,” then perhaps you are living with people who selected you to be their partners on this voyage . . . and you too picked the parents that you would need this time around. The selections in this book are only a few of the many we received from all over the world. I had a termination while receiving a treatment for a back problem, and it broke my heart. Years later my back healed

and I had a beautiful baby girl. When she was two, she was sitting there with a book and just looked up at me and said, “Mummy, you sent me back the first time because you had a bad back, but I came back when your back was better.” MARIE BIRKETT Southampton, United Kingdom I met a physician a little while ago (I’ll call her “Mary”) who told me a very interesting story. Mary’s firstborn child died before she was one. Mary used to sing a lullaby that was especially for her baby, and when she died suddenly, Mary never sang that song again. After seven years, Mary had another little girl who began to sing the lullaby at the age of four. Mary froze and asked her daughter how she knew the song. The child’s response was, “Mommy, you used to sing it to me.” Mary became a true believer after that, and understood that you pick your mother and father before you are born. ANNA KIELY Victoria, Australia My mom was pregnant and lost the baby, who was going to be named Nicole. About two years later I became pregnant and decided to name my baby Nicole. Mom and I talked about the possibility that it was the same soul who’d tried to come through her. When Nicole was about five years old, she said, “Mommy, before I was in your tummy, I was in Gammie’s tummy.” JODY STRUCK AMSBERRY*

Guilt vs.

Resentment by Marilu Holmes

In an attempt to escape guilt, I painted myself into a corner... the corner of resentment.

uilt and resentment are the currencies we use to pay for our desires. With the currency of guilt, we “buy” the permission to do what we want when we think we shouldn’t. Guilt comes from a sense of duty — “I should be eating healthy, but I don’t want to” — and the form of payment to reconcile this discrepancy is guilt. We feel guilty when we want to do something that contradicts a value we were taught, but maybe we should review the values that 2/06/09 are driving us. ue02_06_09 ds@wholeliving... It builds up in our soul as a feeling of unfairness against ourselves. “I won’t say anything about your Page unacceptable behavior so I can keep peace with this relationship.” Resentment feeds the feelings of victimhood and powerlessness. It’s a self-made trap that seems impossible to escape from. But can we? And how?

Choose Guilt By choosing guilt over resentment we are taking care of ourselves first because guilt indicates where our soul wants to go (usually unknown and scary places that will force us to let go of a fear). When we act despite our guilt, we take the road of self-discovery beyond our conditioning. At the same time, we exercise the muscle of honesty because it makes us wonder what works for us, hence giving us the power to negotiate fairer conditions in all our relationships.

She wanted to do it right before a family vacation, when I was particularly busy closing the business and leaving the house in order. Next Generation Mystics by Cezarina Trone

H

er story begins with early memories of being a happy child in a village in Romania. She was told that soon after her birth several gypsy women tried to kidnap her from the hospital room filled with newborn babies. A good friend of her mother’s happened to arrive just in time as the gypsies were trying to swap babies. The child was fortunate to arrive in a world filled with special protection of love and wisdom, surrounded by her grandmother’s magical presence. Maia, as she called her grandmother then, was a retired school teacher and powerful medicine woman in her small village community. Maia often carried her granddaughter for long walks at night under the bright light of the stars and the silver moon. She was delighted to hear the baby in her arms talk back to the stars pointing upwards with tiny hands. The grandmother knew the baby gestures were her own signs of divine communion. By age 16 this child had gazed at the stars enough that she was able to predict she would leave her country soon. Her soul mate arrived when she turned nineteen. He was American. In 2002 she discovered the power of kriya yoga and meditation. It was as if the sky opened up and the earth started to swallow her whole. Later, after leaving her husband, while teaching in Niger, West Africa at the American International School, she experimented and took huge leaps of faith by integrating yoga and meditation, life coaching skills, creative play, dance, poetry and mindfulness into the daily curriculum. She hoped that one day she would share

these magical experiences with others. And then something extraordinary happened…while walking in the desert one weekend, she stumbled upon a big rock partly painted green with the word ‘mirador’ carved on its face. She immediately fell into a mystical state… feeling a deep connection to that name but not knowing why. Tears welled up in her eyes as if she had returned back home and recognized her child Self all at once. This magical child within whispered to her, “My voice is your only window into this world…Please go forth and tell the world that the children still hold the keys to the kingdom.” Each letter in the MIRADOR name was a world in itself for her: M=mindfulness with motivation; I=intention; R=re-emergence with integration; A=artistic expression; D=detachment with compassion; O=oneness; R=rebirth with celebration. These seven inner gateways became the foundation of her own coaching model to share with others in attaining joy and self-realization. After moving to Cincinnati in 2010, she didn’t seek another regular teaching job, yet she taught more passionately

On June 7, 2015 the first group of seven Mirador Kids Yoga Teachers and Creativity Coaches graduated (one of them, an 11 year old modern mystic named Vivienne). Sleep

and Weight The Divine Connection by Margaret Marshall

here are more ways to gain weight than you might imagine. Eating too much and lack of exercise are the most well known, while lack of sleep is largely under rated. There are hormonal issues that contribute to lack of sleep and weight gain. I want to address the lifestyle issues, the everyday occurrences that happen when we are sleep-deprived: the many times when we think to ourselves, “Why did I just do that?” the afternoon slumps we experience, or the uncontrollable cravings to eat, especially sweets.

T

of food. Neither is healthy and conducive to a productive healthy lifestyle. Similar to the flowers in a garden, flowers will get energy from two sources as well; sun and water. Give flowers too much water and not enough sun, and you drown them. Give them too much sun and not enough water and they shrivel. The correct balance is what makes your flowers beautiful. The balance between your sleep and food will give you the energy needed to successfully perform your daily routines and manage your weight.

Cat-Naps Can Help

Sleep and Weight-Management

While studies suggest that taking a cat-nap is beneficial to our health, our lifestyles often render cat-naps impossible. Insufficient sleep can be as detrimental to our daily tasks as having an alcoholic drink, and just one drink reduces our resistance to eating temptations. Continued sleep deprivation impairs learning, decreases energy, and causes weight gain. As any parent knows when you have a young child who did not sleep well the night before, both the parent and child are in for a harrowing day. No matter what you tell the child, the child is too tired and cranky to listen. Try to give a tired cranky child food, and usually he or she won’t eat. Young bodies recognize they need sleep, and their underdeveloped brain does not know how to articulate that request.

Turning to Food for Comfort When Tired As adults the same dynamic is in play with sleep-deprivation. Except, as adults we don’t have the luxury of having someone cater to our needs, and very often we turn to food for that same comfort. While our developed brains know they need sleep, our lifestyles dictate differently, and we turn to food. When we are overtired, we overeat. We may not realize how much we overeat because fatigue has erased our awareness. We are just tired and cranky and looking for instant gratification and energy.

Energy Comes from Two Sources

We get energy from two sources, sleep and food. Find the balance between the two. When there is a lack of sleep there is too much food, and too much sleep can also cause a lack

16

Living W h o l e Journal

If you find yourself overeating throughout the day or if you have incurable cravings, especially for sweets, consider your sleep patterns. Your sleep plays a bigger role in your weight management than you might have realized. People who are sleep-deprived gain weight quicker. If we are excited, anxious, or depressed about an issue, it’s more difficult to fall asleep. For some they find themselves awake during the night and eating. This is a vicious cycle. Lack of sleep and overeating is destructive and will magnify and multiply any issue we face. Find a way to clear your mind and get some sleep.

Patterns Change Throughout Our Lives In different stages of your life, eating patterns and sleep patterns will differ. Keep finding the balance between the two and you’ll find more energy and enjoy an easier time of managing your body weight.

3 CWaysP Use Your to Call to ell hone Your Higher Self by Fran Shaw, Ph.D.

N

avigating a busy sidewalk these days requires constant vigilance lest we get trampled by people with heads bowed and eyes on their phones. It’s hypnotic, this marvelous content-provider in our hands, and some of us can’t help but constantly check it. The phrase “Put Down the Phone” headlined a recent New York Times article announcing a $200 app that allows us to put away our cells and still have peace of mind that we won’t miss anything “important.” But what important things are we missing when we are glued to the phone? As my friend Murphy puts it, “Is that the sun blazing gold across the horizon? I hadn’t noticed because my world has shrunk to the size of a kumquat.” Must we give up our cells to wake up and smell the roses? No, there’s a golden opportunity here. Especially when we consider that transformation may not be about giving up anything, but may be about opening to a consciousness that embraces all of it, limited by none of it. Doing so allows us to live in both streams simultaneously - the everyday and the “higher.” “Can I walk and talk and chew gum at the same time?” That’s the challenge. To bring higher consciousness to life, one must become aware of oneself right in the midst of an activity. It’s wonderful to sit still for a moment, relaxed and quiet, so subtler impressions impress. But this is not getting on the bus running. This is getting on the bus as it waits for us at the curb. By the monastery. Indeed, nothing needs to change except where our attention is. In theory at least, we should be able to be on the phone-totally enjoying it-and be present at the same time. We just need some practice in “multidimensional living”-and something to remind us that we can “vibrate higher.” Our cellphones... vibrate! And make various sounds at random moments. We can even download our spiritual ringtone of choice. What great reminders to mobilize attention! It’s the temple bell that rings on the hour to rouse one from automatism to restore awareness. We can connect what we do with what we really are beyond form. All that ringing, pinging, and vibrating can be used as a call to become present. And the first step, when one is called, is simply to witness. This is “Observing Mode” and it’s all about streaming live video of yourself. It’s reality-show you! Feel that inner-camera on you? Your body being seenposture, facial expression-as you read these words? A Selfphone can help when we intentionally connect it with waking up. What a gift. Every time the phone “pings” we immediately become present. What opens for us is the unlimited dimension of attention.

18

Living W h o l e Journal

Here are three way you can use your cell phone to call your higher self. With each one, saying out loud your intention until it becomes automatic:

3 Ways to Use Your Cell Phone to Call Your Higher Self

1. Cell phone RINGING? “Observe my body now.” As if something sees you - face, jaw, shoulders, and the arm reaching for the phone… 2.

Cell phone PINGING? “See myself here.” The ping says, “Attention! Look now.” What is around you and in front of you as your head lowers to reads the words...

3. Cell phone VIBRATING? “Sense my body.” Because it’s vibrating too, with subtle life energy, through the whole of it, from the top of your head, to your seat on the chair, to the soles of your feet. Your hand, filled with attention, taking hold of the phone... No judgment allowed. Say you forget most of the time, it happens; so whenever we remember, by means of whatever thought, whatever reminds us to activate attention and come home is awesome. Going away and coming back are both part of the same process of waking up. What is the important thing being missed when we’re lost in the phone? Presence. Self with a capital S. Real I. But, by infusing common habits with conscious attention, we enliven everyday life. We put the “I” in iPhone. We live in a new way. Queen of Herbs The

Holy Basil Herbs ‘n Such, by Mimi Tagher

H

oly Basil is one of the most sacred herbs in India and one of the most revered herbs in Ayurvedic medicine. It is a different plant from the pesto variety of Basil (Ocimum basilicum) often added to recipes to enhance flavor. Holy Basil is also known as Tulsi (Ocimum sactum), which translates as “the incomparable one.”

The Queen of All Herbs

It is often referred to as “the queen of all herbs” because it is one of the best adaptogenic herbs available. That is, it helps the body deal with all types of stress, and it assists the body’s natural process of healing.

Perfect Health and Enlightenment

In Ayurveda, the herb is known as a “rasayana,” an herb that nourishes a person’s growth to perfect health and enlightenment. It is balancing to all body systems and has restorative effects for the body, mind, and spirit.

This impressive herb is renowned for its ability to reduce stress, enhance stamina, relieve inflammation, lower cholesterol, eliminate toxins, protect against radiation, and reduce fevers. It also improves digestion, helps regulate blood sugar, is a rich source of antioxidants, and supports the heart, liver, and lungs.

Embracing

Change Intuitive Insights, by Francine Haydon and Patricia Garry

I

n general, most people tend to be creatures of habit. We prefer to have a daily routine that doesn’t require much thinking or effort. It’s just easier. However, maintaining the status quo is exactly that – maintaining the same old, same old. Nothing new can come of it. We become static. Instead, we need to embrace change – the adventure, the excitement and the innovations that change brings about. We need change to learn, grow and evolve. Change is the catalyst that spurs new discoveries. A problem occurs, and we have to figure out how to solve it. To develop this, we should encourage boldness, confidence and the willingness to try new things in children as they grow…and also in ourselves as adults. By embracing the present and its challenges and then finding a way to move forward, we move ourselves and our civilizations forward. It takes all kinds of people to make the world go round, but to advance, we need to think outside the current box. By looking at things with fresh perspectives, we make new discoveries. This process can be scary and uncomfortable at first, but also fun and exciting, too – like riding a roller coaster or exploring a cave. The next time you feel afraid to accept a challenge outside your comfort zone, make the choice to take the risk. Seek out that inner sense of adventure. Take the action to do something a bit different. Perhaps, even risk following your dreams. If you don’t, who will? Besides, change is just more fun! Thinking in new ways, eating different food, buying a shirt you would not ordinarily wear - all perfect spiritual actions, which will lead mind, body and spirit into new avenues, into growth, into joy. We tend to think of being spiritual as meaning sitting on a pillow meditating or chanting. And of the body as totally separate – maybe even anti-spiritual. But our body, mind, spirit are

one, indivisible…and all totally spiritual. So having fun trying new experiences is spiritual growth. Tasting new food, new ideas and new feelings is growth. Taste them, smell them, purr over them. We have this big wonderful exciting world to explore. When we stay home and watch game shows (quite good in and of themselves, of course) we are not learning more about ourselves, both in this reality and as spiritual beings. Trying something new wakes us up in very refreshing ways. And what if you don’t like that new kind of chocolate you just tried? (Chocolate can be a very spiritual experience.) If you didn’t like it, that was a new learning, even more fun. Just go on and try the next one. And the one after that. Being playful is a very spiritual approach to life. Knowing that we are expressions of the Universe itself gives our experiences a zest. We are adding to the joy in the here and now, and helping to bring the planet to a higher level. And growing toward bliss.

Sp tlight In his marriage ministry, Pastor John practices the First Principle of his Unitarian Universalist faith: the inherent worth and dignity of every person. He believes that every loving couple, regardless of race, ethnicity, spiritual beliefs, or sexual orientation should have the opportunity to express their love for each other in a public ceremony of their own choosing. Pastor John works closely with the couple to ensure that their wishes are incorporated in a traditional or non-traditional ceremony that they will cherish. Pastor John is also a published writer and paranormal expert. 513.853.6180 www.marriagechaplain.com An all-new Spiritual Master Class on DailyOM.com begins Sunday, October 27, 2015. DailyOM.com (Deepak Chopra, Ram Dass) will launch its first-ever Universal Laws course, “12 Universal Laws of Higher Consciousness,” taught by spirit science guru, Shira J., owner and founder of Synchronicity Studios. 12 Universal Laws focuses on elevating students’ consciousness to manifest their most abundant lives. Utilizing knowledge from a range of spirit sciences and interviews from leading experts (such as Marybeth Grant of Conscious Coaching), 12 Universal Laws will introduce video and written content designed to awaken 12 chakra systems, heighten spiritual awareness, and above all, demonstrate that when humankind yields harmoniously to the universe, the universe simultaneously grants unlimited access to the heart’s deepest desires. Doris Schnetzer, M.A. is now an Advanced LIIFT Practitioner. LIIFT stands for LifeImproving Internal Focus Technique. She says, “LIIFT works well to help people release emotional baggage quickly and to change subconscious beliefs for the better. Practices to Help You Forgive by Iyanla Vanzant

W

hat I have learned during my 30-year sojourn through the science of personal and spiritual growth and healing is that forgiveness will cure whatever ails you. The other thing I am totally convinced of is that while forgiveness ain’t easy, it’s the most important inner work you can do within your mind and heart. Most of us were never taught that any experience that comes into your life comes by energetic invitation. For this reason, it is imperative that you learn how to keep your energy clear. The practice of forgiveness is your ticket to clarity, vitality, and freedom. My book Forgiveness: 21 Days to Forgive Everyone for Everything is my loving challenge for you to come out of the darkness and into the light. In it, I share my practice that will help you to clear the decks of your mind and heart to create the space necessary for you to live with more love for yourself and others.

5 Daily Practices to Help You Forgive: 1.

Still Your Mind – Begin your day by stilling your mind for at least five minutes. You can also listen to one of your favorite meditations.

4.

Relax and Restore – Listen to a Gratitude Meditation. I have recorded one that comes included with the book. A gratitude meditation will help restore your mind and heart to balance.

5.

Be Sure To Do Something Good for

Yourself Everyday! About the author: Iyanla Vanzant is the author of 15 titles, including five New York Times bestsellers, and the Inner Visions CD series. A Yoruba priestess and an ordained minister in Christian New Thought, she is the founder and executive director of Inner Visions International and the Inner Visions Institute for Spiritual Development. She is the legendary life coach of Iyanla: Fix My Life on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

2.

Begin a Forgiveness Journal – Get yourself a Forgiveness Journal and a special pen and start writing. Give yourself permission to be radically honest with yourself about yourself. Write your most heartfelt thought or memory to access your innermost thoughts and beliefs.

3.

Read a Forgiveness Prayer – Read a Forgiveness prayer twice a day—once silently and once aloud. Hearing this prayer will align you with the Holy Spirit, as it is the presence of the Creator that responds to our slightest request. September - October 2015

BREATHE MORE LIFE INTO YOUR BODY noring and sleep apnea lead to low oxygen levels in the body. In turn, this leads to physical problems people don’t usually associate with sleep issues. They affect your life at home, on the job, and your relationships. Dr. Bosma helps patients who snore through a unique system of evaluation and treatment called Oral Systemic Balance. Breathe more life into your body! Call us for information or to schedule your sleep evaluation.
