High technology and niche products in focus for Norwegian Nammo Group
Nammo är ett av företagen som vidareutvecklat det fartygsbaserade luftvärnsrobotsystemet Sea Sparrow, Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM). Jämfört med föregångaren har ESSM bland annat ny raketmotor för längre räckvidd, ny stjärtsektion för ökad manöverförmåga samt ny stridsdel. The Nammo Group is a defense and aerospace group focusing on high technology and niche products within ammunition, shoulderfired weapon systems, propulsion and rocket motors, security systems and related life cycle services. The Group has subsidiaries in Canada, Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

Nammo designs, develops and produces a wide range of high-quality ammunition products for hand weapons, medium-caliber guns, tank artillery as well as aircraft and naval platforms. The range of shoulder-fired weapon systems has become important, and new versions have been developed and qualified, with more to come. With regards to missile and space propulsion, Nammo possesses leading technology in rocket booster and thrust vector control. The Group’s demilitarization business comprises leading expertise and know-how related to eco-friendly recycling and effective disposal processes for all conventional ammunition, explosives products and cluster munitions.
Established 1998
The Nammo Group was established in 1998 following a merger of the ammunition operations of three major Nordic defense companies: Celsius AB, Patria Industries Oy and Raufoss ASA. Today are Nammo owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry (50%) and the Finnish Defense and Aerospace Group, Patria Oy (50%).
Nammo operates through its five business units: Small Caliber Division, Medium & Large Caliber Division, Missile Products Division, Demil Division and Nammo Talley. The Small Caliber business unit is a leading supplier of niche technology and core products within small caliber ammunition. The extensive product
range includes premium combat and commercial products for armed forces’ base needs, Special Forces, law enforcement, premium target shooters and Olympic winners.
The Business Unit operates in the following business areas: • Military Home Markets; Customer integrated ammunition and logistics/life cycle supplier. • Military Specialities; Focused speciality ammunition developer and supplier. • Civil Centerfire; Worldwide target shooting ammunition partner. • Rimfire; Worldwide premium target ammunition supplier.
Leading supplier
The Medium & Large Caliber Division is a leading supplier of a broad range of combat and training ammunition for Army, Navy and Air Force applications. The Division provides full up rounds and components for ammunition ranging from 12.7mm up to 155mm artillery.
Pyrotechnics, M72 light shoulder fired antiarmor weapons, hand-grenades and restoring of ammunition are also important parts of the product range. In addition, the Division offers services such as ballistic, environmental and hazard (“IM-Insensitive Munitions”) testing, laboratory services, mechanical manufacturing, surface treatment and explosive filling.
The Missile Products Division mainly comprises production of propulsion systems and warheads for missiles as well as small rocket motors for space applications. The propulsion capabilities include advanced Thrust Vector Control systems.
Development and major production programs such as NSM, ESSM, IRIS-T and Exocet Block 3 have created an industrial environment enabling advancements in design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities. The Unit has become an attractive partner for the world’s leading missile groups.
Friendly recycling processes
Nammo’s Business Unit within demilitarization offers environmentally friendly recycling and disposal processes for all conventional ammunition and explosive products. The range covers everything from full disassembly and recycling of most types of ingoing materials, to thermal treatment fulfilling the strictest European air emission control regulations and environmentally controlled underground detonations.
Nammo Talley operates as a separate and fifth Business Unit within the Nammo Group. Talley has full design, analysis, development, test and production capabilities. The Business Unit started with aircrew escape systems and automotive safety airbags and a solid propellant heritage of over 45 years.
