“Regrets”
Any of us who have been around for a time living an active life with people, ambitions and dreams, with school, work, adventures, will have registered regrets along the way.
How many times have we said; If only…, good grief…, crying shame…, could of, should have, would have… or I could kick myself for doing that.
How many times have we felt; The weight of the world on our shoulders or want to beat ourself up for not taking advice.

We all have regrets of some kind or another as we’re human and make mistakes, but we can’t keep crying over spilt milk. Instead, we need to learn from them and do our best to just try again.
Jeff Salmon

LIN GOLDFIELDS
PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
By Clive Aspinall, M. Sc, P.Eng. ncaspinall@gmail.com
HISTORY OF BEN MY CHREE Silver-Gold Mine,
The Ben-My Chree Mine story has to be just one of Atlin’s lost silver-gold mines. The Ben My Chree mineral occurrence, located within CTFN Traditional Territory, was originally discovered and staked in the early 1900’s by prospector Stanley McLellan, high above Ben My Chree homestead. This famous homestead is located at south-west end of Tagish Lake by Watson River. Stanley had no money to pursue development, but as luck would have it, he was friends of Otto Partridge, of Ben My Chree homestead fame. Otto also had friends with capital, one Lord Egerton and a second Miss Dalton, both reported coming to Canada from England.
One day Egerton, with presumably McLellan climbed up to the prospect located at an elevation of 1,867 meters, high above Ben My Chree. Egerton became excited seeing the mineral showings. He felt they warranted financial backing for development work. Egerton, Otto, and Miss Dalton decided to pool a sum of money to allow development to go ahead. This money greatly helped, including building an aerial gravity tramway to transport ore down the mountain side to the SW end of Tagish Lake.
In 1911, about 7 tonnes of ore was shipped, from which 93 grams of gold and 31,103 grams of silver were recovered. A grab sample taken in 1985 with 4 per cent galena and pyrite assayed 11 grams per tonne gold, 450 grams per tonne silver, 0.14 per cent copper, 4.25 per cent lead and 0.037 per cent zinc (Fieldwork 1985, pages 184, 187).
Blasting to open a mine drift reportedly triggered an avalanche which killed McLellan and his wife, who were resident in a stone house about 300 meters below the mine drift. The avalanche also destroyed timbers of the trestle-towers of the aerial gravity tramway, destroying it. The mine workings were also buried under tons of debris.
As a result of this avalanche, the property was abandoned about 1914, as being inaccessible and too dangerous to work.
During 1980, the property was staked by Karl Gruber of Whitehorse, B. C., who entered an agreement with Silver Ice Mining Ltd. of Victoria, B. C. This Company began undertaking a re-evaluation and probable reopening of the mine. John Fehler and Joey Grant, being representatives of Silver Ice Mining Ltd., visited the property by helicopter. The purpose of this visit was to obtain vein samples for assay. The existing snow pack appears to have impeded investigations, as assay results were not encouraging.
The Ben My Chree Mine has been visited by several Atlin and Whitehorse prospectors over the years.
Note: The 1911-1914 records can confuse as to the exact year and the timing of events. For instance, were 2 drifts driven into the mountain side, or just the one, was the avalanche in 1911, or later, and how many were killed by the avalanche, as well as other issues and time-line matters.
Evacuation preparedness: How to stay safe when it’s time to go
Do you know the difference between an Evacuation Alert and an Evacuation Order? It’s important to know what to expect if you ever need to evacuate your home due to an emergency.

Evacuation Alert: Be ready to leave on short notice. Have grab-and-go bags packed for all members of your home, including pets.
Evacuation Order: You are at risk. Leave the area immediately. Follow instructions provided on where to go.
Evacuation Rescinded: The risk to life and safety has now passed. Follow instructions from local officials.
Pack your grab-and-go bags
A grab-and-go bag is a small emergency kit that's easy to take with you, in case you need to leave right away. Include items such as non-perishable food and water, phone charger and battery bank, medications and copies of important documents (insurance, identification). Remember to pack a grab-and-go bag for your pets with food, water and comfort items too!
Create an Emergency Support Services (ESS) profile
If you are evacuated, first look to use your own resources, such as insurance, for support. If you don't have insurance, or need help to meet basic needs during an evacuation, the Emergency Support Services (ESS) program may be able to support you.

Create a profile for Emergency Support Services with the Evacuee Registration and Assistance (ERA) tool. If evacuated, this will help save time during an emergency and may help you access temporary supports faster.
Stay informed
During an emergency remember to follow your emergency plan, obey instructions from your local authorities or First Nation and check EmergencyInfoBC.ca for up-to-date information.
