The Atlin Whisper

“Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world.”

Are there more tennis players in Atlin?

There are quite some sports you can do in Atlin but tennis is lacking. I know of a few people who can play tennis, and hope there are more. If you can play, please let me know. When there are more than just a few, maybe a tennis court can be realised. The school gym is too small. An Atlin outdoor court would be wonderful.

If you too can and would like to play tennis in Atlin, please mail karin@bartdehaas.com

Hope to hear from you

Trapper Education course

planned for April 26-28, 2024 in Atlin.

“The BC Trapper Education course, which must be successfully completed to qualify a person for a trapping license, is given at a particular location when there is sufficient demand. The course takes approximately 21 hours (three full days, usually Friday through Sunday), which includes instruction, demonstration, student participation, and a written exam. Successful completion is based on participation and exam results. The course is designed primarily for students aged 14 years and older. Younger students (minimum 12 years) can be accommodated only if accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also taking the course.

Course cost, which includes a manual and a one year membership in the BC Trappers Association, is $550 (18 years and older), and $350 for youths (12-17 years).”

“A Candle”

He held a candle to lighten the dark and yet she was nowhere to be seen. He was at a loss to explain her absence and light did not take away the fear… that she had left during the night.

She had left from the house quietly soon after he had fallen asleep. She dreaded that he would awaken and would have to tell him the truth… that she was going to another.

A candle will shed light into darkness but not into affairs of the heart nor will it bring an elixir of love. Only day to day attentiveness with a full measure of affection… can keep the heart from looking elsewhere.

Special Thanks

I would like to especially thank Paul Lucas for sharing his book, A Guitar Player On TheYukon Border.

Reading a delightful chapter over the past two years, every second week in theWhisper has been something I think we have all looked forward to and enjoyed.

Now, if we could only get Paul to write another book, we could start this great tradition all over again!!!!

Thank you again Paul, for sharing your wonderfulbook

In Memory

The Atlin Mountain Inn and staff are saddened by the sudden death of a co-worker and friend, Dexter (Tyme) Martin.

Dex brought his joy of preparing delicious meals to the restaurant and saloon at the Inn and worked to make the food served worthy of a return visit. His absence will be a loss to our community.

“He has only slipped away into the next room He is he and you are you. Whatever he was to us, that he is still. He is nearby, just around the corner”.

We will always remember Dex.
