The Atlin Whisper “Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Margaret Mead
Hello Everyone, Atlin RCMP want to give a huge thank you and shout out to our local Atlin Search and Rescue Team (SAR), who have been called upon five times in recent weeks to assist with reports of overdue persons. These awesome folks are your Relatives, Friends, Neighbors, First Responders, Atlin Business Owners/ Employees, etc. Many also volunteer their time as Volunteer Fire Fighters and other Community Organizations. The Atlin SAR Team give up many hours of their own time for training as well with their family and friends when the call is sent out requiring their assistance with an incident in progress. Atlin is very lucky to have a highly trained Search and Rescue Team that is locally based. Many communities are without any type of SAR Team and are at the mercy of awaiting help that can be hours away before even starting to process of a rescue. Atlin RCMP is grateful to have access to such a great team of people when their training and specialized services are required. The area surrounding Atlin is vast and remote. People need to keep in mind that help can be hours away depending on your location and/or equipment required by Search and Rescue to reach you. One never expects to get into trouble outdoors. However; all it takes is a turn in the weather, mistake in judgment, unexpected injury, equipment failure, or sudden nightfall to quickly change any recreational outing into a crisis Here are few tips and reminders for you so you can be prepared and safe when travelling out to the fantastic but dangerous areas we live in.
