As you know the Chamber's Awards Banquet, recognizing Business excellence, is being held on Thursday November 26th at the KDFN Cultural Centre. Doors will open at 6:15pm, for a meet and greet with our keynote speaker Mr. Mohamed Fahmy, and the banquet will start at 7pm. This event is open to the public so if you know of friends or family who would like to aMend please have them contact us.

We are excited to be able to get an internaOonally recognized Canadian Journalist such as Mr. Fahmy, who is in demand as a speaker in Canada and the U.S., to help out with presenOng our awards and to be our keynote speaker.

During his mulO-decade career, Mr. Fahmy has reported for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, Dubai TV, Al Hurra and CNN. In addiOon, he spent two years working for the InternaOonal Red Cross. This is truly a chance to meet a very special person.

Sponsorship Opportunities The benefits to you and levels of sponsorship are outlined below: Basic Sponsorship is $50.00 plus GST. Your logo or ad will be included in a PowerPoint that will be running throughout the event.

Bronze sponsorship is $250.00 plus GST. Sponsorship includes the basic sponsorship plus your business listing in our AGM program, and recognition on our “thank you� page after the event.

Silver sponsorship is $500.00 plus GST. Your benefits include all of the above plus one free seat, a mention during the AGM/banquet.

Gold sponsorship is $1,000.00 plus GST. This level of sponsorship entitles you to all of the above plus two free seats, signage display, as well as someone from your organization to present one of our Chamber awards.

We are asking local businesses and organizations to partner with us during this campaign and help us cover some of the 1300 Kettle host hours this year.

This Christmas we have a goal of $72,000 It’s simple, here’s how you do it: Pick a date and location that works for you. Then arrange for your staff to man the Christmas Kettle for a set period of time*. During this time your business logo will be displayed on the Kettle stand. (*1 day with a kettle is just 10 hours – in that time a Kettle can raise up to $1,000 or more.)

However we realize how busy Christmas can be! That it can be difficult to fit Kettle hosting into your schedule.

Another way you can help support is with a donation of $250 or more. As a Thank You we will put your organizations logo atop one of our kettles for a day.

Basic Prospecting Course

The Yukon Chamber of Mines is con nuing the long tradi on of offering our Basic Prospec ng Course! Registra ons are now open. This course will give par cipants an idea of how prospec ng works in the Yukon; an overview of basic geological informa on; and reviews the major mineral commodi es found in the Yukon.

There will also be a chance to learn about mineral and rock iden fica on.

The course consists 40 hrs of classroom sessions, held twice weekly on Monday and Wednesday evenings 19:00- 21:00 hrs. The course will begin in early January 2016 in the Yukon Chamber of Mines boardroom.

Our bodies are designed to move. But modern living has eliminated a lot of physical activity from our lives. Many of us are spending too many hours sitting -- in front of a computer screen, TV or at a desk.

Research has linked sitting for long periods of time with many health concerns and increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease and cancer. Physical activity on the other hand, increases energy, helps us handle stress better, strengthens the heart and lungs, and helps maintain a healthy weight.

Here are some ideas for replacing sitting with more activity: • •

Walk and talk. Whether it is a casual work meeting or social time with a friend, go for a walk while you talk.

Stand while talking on the telephone or when eating lunch. (You can still eat mindfully while standing ...)

Try a standing desk or treadmill desk. The cost of standing desks is coming down and they are becoming an affordable option for many employers.

Take the stairs at home and at work. Stairs provide great weightbearing and bone-strengthening exercise.

Try wearing a device (e.g. Fitbit) that tracks your steps. You just might find that a constant reminder will encourage you to take more steps.

Multi-task while watching TV. Do some exercises while watching TV. Challenge yourself to stand up every time you change the channel with the remote (like the "old days" before remotes were invented).

Moving activates our body's natural processes related to breaking down sugars and fats. The trip to the gym three times a week doesn't counter the vast number of hours we spend sitting. So take the time to move more throughout the day, every day.
