Give Joy This Season and help fulfill the wish of a child.

This holiday season, the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is launching Wishathon again in an effort to fund the increased wishes we fulfill surrounding Christmastime. One of the wishes will be granted to Tyler.

Just a few months shy of his second birthday, Tyler was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. It was during a routine checkup with his pediatrician when he was referred to a specialist. He was diagnosed four days later. “It was extremely difficult for our family,” Tyler’s mom, Yasmine said. Tyler has endured many surgeries, including the removal of his left eye. Throughout all of his treatments however, he always had a smile on his face, and showed tremendous strength. When Tyler received news that he was granted his wish, he was ecstatic. Tyler’s wish is to visit Disneyland to meet all of his favourite characters.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT WINTER ACTIVE LIVING GUIDE AND PROGRAM REGISTRATION Whitehorse – The City has released the 2015 Winter Active Living Guide.

With hundreds of programs to choose from, the new guide offers something for everyone. Whitehorse residents should check out the aquatics and wellness programs, as well as programs for preschoolers, children, youth, adults and seniors.

The guide also features information about Recreation and Facility Services such as facility rentals, outdoor skating rinks, recreation grants and special events.

View the Active Living Guide online, or pick up a copy at the Canada Games Centre or City Hall.

Program registration begins on Monday, December 15 at 4:30pm. Registration takes place online or in person at the Canada Games Centre. Online registration is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no convenience fees. An online account is needed, so contact the City if you need assistance with your Login ID or Password.

Whitehorse Recrea-onal Hockey League Good Day,

Each year during the Rendezvous weekend celebra;on, the Whitehorse Recrea;onal Hockey League (WRHL) hosts its annual Rendezvous Hockey Tournament. The weekend tournament features compe;;ve round robin and playoff ac;on, and can accommodate up to 16 men’s teams (A and B Division) and 4 women’s teams.

In the past, a cash prize has been awarded to the winner of the A division. Last year, the WRHL received some sponsorship and awarded a smaller prize to winners of the Men’s B and Women’s divisions as well. We would like to try to have cash prizes again this year. Generally, the tournament is financed through team entry fees, which pays for ice ;me, referees, ;mekeepers, insurance, and other minor expenditures.

The WRHL is offering an unique opportunity to the business community to sponsor the tournament and in return get adver;sing during the tournament weekend and on all promo;onal materials. For a minimum of a $100 sponsorship your business will be seen by 250 par;cipants and hundreds of spectators. As well, if you get your sponsorship in soon, then you would be included in the WRHL adver;sing for the Rendezvous tournament.

Sponsorship goes from $100-­‐ $1000. To be the sole sponsor of a division, it would $500 for the Women’s or Men’s B and $1000 for the Men's A. Otherwise sponsorship will be pooled as required.

Yukon Quest International December 5, 2014

Want to be at the center of the action at the Start Line and get to know your favorite musher?!?

The Quest Guest Program (formerly known as the "Starter Program") is a unique way for Yukon Quest fans to get a behind the scenes perspective of the race.

Winning bidders get the opportunity to join "their" Yukon Quest musher for an experience of a lifetime at the start line of the Yukon Quest on Saturday February 7th, 2015 in Whitehorse, YT! They receive a special access pass to the staging area and ride in a "tag sled" with the musher and dog team for the first ~1.5 miles of the race.

In addition, winners will be able to sit down for lunch with their musher on Thursday February 5th before the race starts. Each Quest Guest also receives a signed poster and a picture taken with their musher.

This year individuals can bid on their favorite musher on the new online auction website!

(Auction closes January 16, 2015 at 1:00pm PST)

Individual mushers may also choose to add additional "perks" to their online auction at any time! So make sure to visit often and see what unique items or experiences are included in each mushers Quest Guest experience!

Net proceeds of this program will be added to the race purse and directly benefit the mushers. So don't be shy! Bid, tell your friends, and get ready for an experience of a lifetime!

Alcohol, your choice ...

With Xmas celebrations in full swing, we are faced with lots of opportunities to consume alcohol ... or not.

We've all heard that alcohol can be harmful and what might come to mind first is "not drinking and driving" or "zero is best during pregnancy and breastfeeding". These are great messages to follow. But did you know that alcohol is linked to cancer, heart disease, stroke and reduced fertility? These facts might give you more reasons to reduce your alcohol intake.

This holiday season, you can help make the choice of going alcohol-free easier for everyone: •

Always have non-alcoholic options readily available if you host a party. Soda water and fruit juice, non-alcoholic punch or mocktails are all good options. If people don't have to ask, they won't feel put on the spot.

If you are going out with friends after an event, like a ski or hockey game, choose a restaurant or a pub instead of a bar -- there are more options all around, including food.

If your friend is pregnant or breastfeeding, join her in going alcohol-free for an event, a month, or even the pregnancy.

This will support her in staying alcohol-free and will give you an interesting perspective on alcohol in our society at the same time!
