The Imperial Mine is truly a story of Atlin’s lost gold mine. An Atlin mystery too, when it comes to gold grades, reported from high to low by different operators, and the lack of continuity of mining operations.
Variable gold grades indicate the presence of the “Nugget Effect” caused by the irregular distribution of coarse free gold grains within quartz veins. Similar “Nugget Effects” are present at Yellowjacket mine on Pine Creek and at Engineer mine on Tagish Lake, 32 kilometres west of Atlin. The Imperial mine is also reported to host silver as well as gold, as at Engineer mine.
The Imperial gold occurrence is located about eight kilometres northeast of Atlin, on the southwest flank of Mount Monroe. The property was first staked in 1899 after gold was discovered in a 150 metre long quartz vein that varies in reported width from 12 centimetres to 2.6 metres.
From 1899-1903, the Nimrod Syndicate did considerable development work including building a 5-stamp mill and bunkhouse and driving two crosscut tunnels, an upper and a lower, to intersect the mineralized quartz vein.
Nimrod Syndicate reportedly milled 268 tons of ore, primarily from the upper level. Over the years, sample gold grade reports have varied considerably between 0.13 to 1.68 oz/t, however average grade from Nimrod’s production was 0.37 oz/t. This equates to a value of $3.7 million CDN at today’s gold prices. If these reported grades are true, it is a mystery why Nimrod stopped operating? Why has no drilling or modern-day exploration been undertaken on this showing?
To continue the story, in 1931, the British Columbia Minister of Mines reported that a select sample of sparsely mineralized quartz collected from a small dump assayed 12.78 oz/t gold and 7.40 oz/t silver. About that time Imperial attracted the interest of an Alaska mining company, who wanted to verify the gold grades. Canadian, British and USA companies since then have also explored the mine area, including:
• 1973 Surprise Resources Ltd.
• 1981 Anglo Canadian Mining Corporation
• 1984 Lear Oil and Gas Corporation
• 1987 Homestake Mineral Development Corporation
From 2000 to 2011, Clive Aspinall owned the mineral tenures and studied the area to investigate what rocks hosted Mount Monroe gold, which potentially could, he believed, reflect a source of Atlin’s placer gold. This work involved collecting mineralized rock for petrographic study. It was speculated gold quartz veins on Mount Monroe are hosted adjacent to weak ferruginous fault zones within a sequence of volcanic rocks. The mine area has complex structural geology featuring an intrusion of hornblendite, another of diorite, which are associated rusty altered ultramafic rock hosting the quartz veins. In this study, microscopic gold was only found in talus as “Float Rock” below the volcanic unit, with associated visible chalcopyrite and copper carbonate.
Since 2017, Brixton Metals Corporation have included the Imperial Mine occurrence within their larger Atlin Gold Fields Property. In 2024, the Property was optioned by Eldorado Gold Corporation. There could be more gold to be discovered on Mount Monroe, and “Eldorado”, with operating mines in three countries, certainly has the money and expertise to explore this historic area.

There were times in his childhood when he was being well-cared for. First and foremost, in the early years, by his mom before she was taken. Years later a step-mom filled in to provide a woman’s tenderness. Even though she was nice the boy felt an emotional gap. He missed his mom. Sadly, dad was the type of man who kept himself removed emotionally from his children and couldn’t offer closeness.
Every year, the city of San Fernando holds Ligligan Parul (or Giant Lantern Festival) featuring dazzling parols (lanterns) that symbolize the Star of Bethlehem. Each parol consists of thousands of spinning lights that illuminate the night sky. The festival has made San Fernando the "Christmas Capital of the Philippines.
His grandfather was a wonderful exception. He and grandma lived hours away so visits occurred only twice a year for a glorious week at their small farm. This was heaven on earth. They were easy to be with and forthcoming with affection and homemade goodies like apple pies.
The boy learned how to tend crops while they told stories of the old country in Europe. Time there was a gift of being well-cared for and learning how to receive and give love. Years later when they went into a home he was the only one who visited often and made sure visits included affection with a full measure of humor. Sometimes they couldn’t stop laughing.
When the boy grew up with a family of his own he made sure each child shared the love and good humor from him and his wife, along with a rich understanding of their heritage. Each one thrived being well-cared for.
This Christmas might be a good time to take stock of who in your community needs to be well cared for and how you can make that happen
All across Mexico members of the Church put on Pastorelas (Shepherd's Plays) to retell the Christmas story. The Mexican Christmas season begins early in December with Las Posadas, a religious march that re-enacts the journey of Mary and Joseph.
The vibrant red poinsettia flowers are also used in holiday arrangements for decoration throughout the country.
On Christmas morning, Finish families traditionally eat a porridge made of rice and milk topped with cinnamon, milk, or butter. Whoever finds the almond placed inside one of the puddings "wins" but some families cheat and hide a few almonds so the kids don't get upset. At the end of the day, it is customary to warm up in a sauna together.

Love at your fingertips
Love is the root
And love is the way
Love is the reason
And love is the cause
Love is the beginning, middle, and end.
There is nothing else
Nothing else but love.
Fear is the anomaly
Take away fear
And you’re left with the core: Pure, truthful, love.
Their Secret Weapon
All is not what it seems,
Fear is their biggest tool
Their most powerful weapon
They use it to foment your anger
To turn you red with rage
So that you hear not
Your voice of reason
Telling you
That fear has got hold of you
And all is not what is seems.

Fear’s Evolution into Love
Fear and Hate are strong
But they are not powerful
Love is powerful
In the end it is Love that supersedes For Hate is forceful And takes a lot of energy
Too much to sustain And it eventually falters
As it runs its course
But Love triumphs
As it grows upon itself And transforms all that is feeble.
Fear and Hate are pervasive and strong
They can destroy many things
But that’s all they can do
Destruct and destroy They cannot build It is Love that builds It is Love that connects And Love that endures.
“All you need is love”
Love is all there is
There is nothing else
Nothing else but love.
All the rest
Is just the chaos
In love’s diminishment.
“Loveisallthereis” “Loveisallthereis.”
