Swansea and the surrounding areas will be welcoming some of the UK’s top artists this summer. Grab your glow sticks, glitter and face paint, it’s time to party. Holly Hughes highlights some not-to-be-missed festivals this season. hay festival (Thu 23 May - Sun 2 June | Hay-On-Wye) The popular free Hay Festival, now in its 32nd year, has unveiled an exciting new programme. Featuring over 600 speakers in 10 tented venues, the festival also offers a vibrant schedule of late-night music, comedy and entertainment for all ages. Award-winning writers will gather to launch new work, while new project, Europa 28, will bring together prominent female authors, thinkers, writers and scientists. hayfestival.org

Go on a musical journey from jazz clubs of Paris and Hamburg with the exuberant four brilliant musicians, Afternoon in Paris. Sat 4 May | from 11am This year's flamboyant Pride celebrations, in support of LGBT+, will take place from Tue 30 April Sun 5 May. But, May the fourth be with you for the main event on Sat 4 May, when the carnival-style Swansea Pride Parade will take a city centre route from 11am.

The Pride celebrations will continue at the National Waterfront Museum with a host of stalls and activities suitable for all ages. Two stages will provide a variety of entertainment including: live music, performers, comedians, drag artists and face painting, alongside the existing Street Food Festival.

Sun 5 May | 2pm - 3pm Katie Paterson’s First There is a Mountain is a participatory artwork event taking place across 25 coastal locations, the length of the UK. Participants will use a specially designed set of 'buckets and spades' in the form of world mountains, to sculpt beaches into thousands of miniature sand mountain ranges.

Each set includes a scale model of one of five of the world's most famous mountains: Mount Kilimanjaro; Mount Shasta; Mount Fuji; Stromboli, and Uluru.

Plus, Swansea born art writer, Lizzie Lloyd, has been commissioned to write a text for the Swansea event.

Mon 27 May | 10am - 5pm Mumbles Yacht Club is opening its doors to encourage people to try their hand at sailing a dinghy, catamaran, powerboat, or perhaps windsurfing, be you already a sailor or new to the sport.

There’ll also be a pro/am fun race later in the day, so if you want something a little more thrilling, then you can go out racing with a competent sailor to see what it's all about. And if you fancy staying around, there will be a family fun night afterwards.

ales Airshow, one of the largest free events in the UK, will be returning to Swansea Bay. Organised by Swansea Council, it welcomes the return of the magnificent Red Arrows as well as other exciting air displays, live stage entertainment, ground displays and trade stands.

2019 is the 50th anniversary of Swansea being awarded city status, and as part of the celebrations, there will be a new After-Dark evening display on Sat 6 July, 8.30pm.

Enjoy live music from bands performing popular hits from 1969; hot air firing balloons spaced out and tethered along Swansea beach; two display aircraft with fireworks firing off their wings, followed by The Tigers Parachute Display Team doing a night parachute jump. 

hree ballets, one world premiere - the contemporary face of The Royal Ballet is shown in works from three of today's leading choreographers via live broadcast from the Royal Opera House.

Christopher Wheeldon’s Within the Golden Hour is based around seven couples separating and intermingling, to music by Vivaldi and Bosso and lit with rich colours suggested by sunset.

Crystal Pite’s Flight Pattern, revived for the first time, uses a large dance ensemble and Górecki’s familiar music from his Symphony of Sorrowful Songs for a poignant and passionate reflection on migration. Between them, a new work by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, created on The Royal Ballet has its premiere to bring the contemporary truly up-to-date. 

Sing Africa is a multifaceted charitable organisation from South Africa, with a vision to enable disadvantaged young people, particularly in rural/ township communities, to discover the joy and empowerment of choral and operatic music.

The youngest ever first prize-winner of the Menuhin International Violin Competition, Christian Li, is just 11 years of age and comes from Australia for a major European tour, with Wales his first concert.

Enjoy an afternoon of Cream Tea and Crime at the Worm’s Head Hotel with best-selling writer, Cathy Ace. We welcome two great international pianists, Llŷr Williams and Ji Liu from China. The wonderful Carducci Quartet also pays us a return visit after performing at Gower Festival in 2017.

There will be a special children’s concert, and to end the Festival, a spectacular concert celebrating the 75th birthday of local hero Sir Karl Jenkins. He will conduct his own music with orchestra, choir and soloists at St Mary’s Church on 13 July. 

his year at Taliesin Arts Centre, the final John Fussell Award for Young Musicians is being opened to the public for FREE, giving audiences an opportunity to spot the next Llŷr Williams, Rhys Meirion or Catrin Finch - all former winners of the competition.

John Fussell was a well-known figure in the south Wales music scene from 1970 until his death in 1990, following which a Trust Fund was set up in his memory to support young musicians, with links to Wales, to further continue their studies.

Rhys Alun Thomas (bass) Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Benjamin Tarlton (cello) The Guildhall, London, Luke Jones (piano) Royal Northern College of Music and Thomas Congdon (viola) Detmold Hochschule fűr Musik, Germany, are the finalists giving recitals this year, following which the adjudicators Huw Tregelles Williams (chair), David Doidge (accompanist/ repetiteur WNO) and Buddug Verona James (mezzo-soprano) will award the first prize of £2,500 to the winner. 

his summer, WNO Orchestra heads to The Great Hall, Swansea University, with an ever-popular collection of unmissable opera classics.

WNO’s talented orchestral musicians are joined by conductor Harry Ogg and soloists Joyce El-Khoury and Jason Howard for this special concert.

The programme journeys through a wealth of operatic repertoire including works by Verdi, Puccini, Dvořák and Wagner.

The evening opens with Wagner’s magnificent Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. You’ll swing along to Tchaikovsky’s sweet-spirited Waltz from Eugene Onegin and also enter the world of musical theatre with delights from Rogers and Hammerstein's South Pacific. This wondrous summer evening concludes with a moving finale, Lehar’s Lippen Schweigen from The Merry Widow.

Until Sat 11 May The title of this exhibition by Ruth Murray is a quote from an Emily Dickinson poem and is inspired by the Jean Rhys novel of the same name about the trials of a middleaged English woman returning to Paris after a long absence.

Ruth elaborates: “My paintings are about the experiences of women. It's the hidden thoughts and the psychology of the situation that interests me most.

“I am excited by light and colour, which paint serves best, and love how the playfulness of this can, paradoxically, add a sort of melancholy to the thing it’s depicting. Sometimes I'll confront the viewer with enigmatic behaviours, and at other times, I'll use rituals, symbols and tokens to disrupt the reading of the image.”

The artists come from around the world, but their works all deploy narrative forms for fantasy, social critique, political allegory and autobiography to engage the viewer and hold their attention. They make imaginative use of the tools at their disposal, whether it is an iPhone, a computer screen and projector, a camera and a stick of charcoal, or pen and ink and watercolour.

The exhibition covers a diverse range of topics from fantastical Greek and Hindu myths to the theatrical world of masked and costumed performers, and breaches political realities.

Until Sun 30 June An exhibition exploring the working life and patient care at Cefn Coed Hospital from 1932 to present day, Cefn Coed Remembered uses memorabilia, an immersive 're-living room' and audio-visual technology to bring the hospital's fascinating 87-year history to vivid life.

Built in 1932, the hospital was based on an older, Victorian design and is one of the last remaining mental health hospitals of its era in the UK. The exhibition also includes a 3D printed model of the hospital, interactive touch screen model and vintage equipment from the hospital including the earliest folding wheelchair ever produced.

Spoken histories, from hours and hours of conversations with people who worked in the hospital, have also been incorporated into the exhibition. 

This show is an interesting combination of three very different artistic styles

We have four artists for June, with some striking work on show

 Peter Cronin is one of Wales’ best contemporary watercolourists. Born in south Wales, Peter worked as an engineer in heavy industry for 20 years, leaving in 2003 to become a full-time artist. He is a Member of the RSMA and its Governing Council, the Watercolour Society of Wales and the Pure Watercolour Society. In 2018, he won the RK Burt & Co Award at the Mall Galleries, London.  Michael Howard was born in Lancashire in 1950 and lives near Brecon. A graduate of the Chelsea School of Art, he left his teaching job as Head of Art at Rugby School in 2012 and is now a successful artist.

Michael is also a well known Automata maker and has exhibited widely across the UK in public galleries including the Victoria and Albert Museum.  Nick John Rees is a successful marine artist based in Sully, near Cardiff. Nick is inspired by the coastlines of Wales, S.W. England and Brittany and uses the lights of early morning or late afternoon to absorb the scenic atmosphere. His paintings can be found in public and private collections internationally.

 Sue Morgan is an illustrator and writer of children’s books. She works on a small scale, producing semi-naïve paintings based on seascapes, landscapes, children and animals. Since retiring in the late 90s after 20 years in teaching, Sue has exhibited her work in galleries across south and west Wales.  Alice Tennant grew up on a farm in Pembrokeshire.

She is a self-taught artist who started young and sold her first piece of work at 18. Since then, she has has never looked back. Alice draws inspiration from the landscape, the sea, plants and flowers and the constantly changing weather patterns and light of Pembrokeshire.  Lyndon Thomas was born in Llanelli in 1941; his artistic career has spanned three decades and included three diverse, yet creatively linked disciplines; painting, pottery and woodcraft. Lyndon has achieved great success across all three medias.

Nowadays, he concentrates fully on painting from his delightful Pembrokeshire studio.  Rhona Tooze has been a batik artist since the late 1970s, having qualified as a specialist secondary art teacher from the Swansea College of Art. She regularly exhibts her images of Welsh life, including rugby players, chapels, street scenes, beach scenes and more. Rhona’s works are held in public and in private collections throughout the world. 

Sat 1 - Sun 9 June With over 40 walks and activities, the Gower Walking Festival promises to be a terrific week. Be inspired by the Year of Discovery, Visit Wales’ 2019 theme, and you will surely discover something new.

Many of the walks are guided by experts including geologists, floral

experts, marine biologists and National Trust rangers.

Amongst the eclectic mix of walks, the Festival has teamed up with Tread Gower to walk the 25-mile route Welsh Coastal Path around Gower coast over two days; the National Trust will be on hand to take you onto Worm’s Head, and Gower Adventures will be adding their kayaking sessions. And if that is not enough, one walk ends at Gower Gin, and another with a sumptuous picnic at the home of L’Amuse Cookery School overlooking Three Cliffs Bay. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the city’s status, there’ll be walks along Swansea streets too. Proceeds raised from this year’s festival will support local charity MIND Swansea, with a sponsored walk from Liberty to St Helen’s via the Vetch.

Sun 23 June The 2019 JCP Swansea Half Marathon will start from outside the iconic Brangwyn Hall, taking runners through the City Centre on closed roads along Swansea Bay to Mumbles, returning to finish outside Swansea Museum.

With six miles of beautiful coastline, the JCP Swansea Half Marathon is a fast, flat course suitable for runners of all abilities. The race has been recognised as being the Best Half Marathon at the UK Running Awards in 2017 and 2018; runners can expect a fully marshalled course on closed roads, bespoke medal, technical t-shirt, on-route entertainment and a goody bag for all finishers.

You can even get all of the family involved in Race Day. The Swansea Half Marathon Family Dash takes places after the Half Marathon has started from the official start line; the 2km (approx.) route will follow in the footsteps of the half marathon runners to the official finish line via Wind Street. dedicated bouldering centre with a 600m2 climbing surface, the facility is the first of its kind in the area. With a variety of innovative angles and high-quality holds, The Hangar offers a fun and challenging experience for climbers of all abilities.

The sport of climbing is enjoying a boom in popularity and around a million people now boulder indoors across the UK. But The Hangar is more than just an indoor climbing centre, it is designed to be a hangout space which brings the local community together. every breath you take Everyone’s talking about it, it’s trending on social media, and is still making headlines. Helen Wilson of Womankind Yoga, Swansea tells Holly Hughes why yoga is here to stay.

H

elen is a 500-hour Chartered Level 2 Teacher with Yoga Alliance UK, who run donationbased community Beach Yoga Classes on Swansea Bay by the Observatory Tower, every Tuesday, 7pm-8pm until 10 September.

Why is yoga so popular?

In the last 10 years, interest in yoga and awareness of its many benefits has grown massively. A few decades ago, there weren't many teachers outside of big cities. But in recent times, trends in fitness, fashion and well-being have seen the profile of yoga grow, from a niche activity, to something that everyone wants to try. The great thing about yoga is that it has something to offer everybody,

from children, to adults, pregnant women, older people and those with mobility problems.

What are the health benefits?

Yoga can help reduce joint pain, back pain, blood pressure and ease general aches and pains, alongside being excellent at helping with stressrelated conditions such as panic, anxiety and depression.

Gentle movements combined with concentrated deep breathing not only help to free the body from tension and discomfort, but can also leave you feeling refreshed, calm and more relaxed.

What are the current yoga trends?

Power Yoga (Ashtanga Vinyasa) originating from America remains very

popular, where students are guided through a series of flowing postures at a faster pace and Hot Yoga, where the warm environment helps loosen the body and sweat as you move between asana (or posture).

More traditional yoga systems such as Sivananda and Gitananda are also very popular with students who favour a gentler class. Kirtan, or Devotional Yoga, is also becoming more well known, and classical forms such as Ivengar retain a strong following with many students.

One of the latest trends is SUP Yoga, or yoga on paddleboards, which I teach on Swansea Canal, Mumbles and Gower.

What first peaked your interest in yoga?

In my twenties I worked as a journalist and media relations officer for the police and the NHS and began to suffer from stress and anxiety and later depression. I found yoga during this time and it was a tremendous help in improving these symptoms.

How has it impacted your lifestyle?

Yoga totally changed my outlook on life and how I view my body. It has helped me learn what I need to do to look after my mental and physical health. The first lesson was that I wasn't suited to high-pressure work environments and I needed to learn how to cope with stress better. So much so that I left my previous career behind seven years ago and decided to train as a yoga teacher here in Wales. Yoga isn't just exercise, it's a way of life and teaches us how to live that life in the happiest and healthiest way possible.

How does yoga complement mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a Buddhist concept that has exploded in popularity in the last few years, where we are guided in remaining in the present moment, using a deep focus on the breath and the senses. In the ancient Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, we read ‘Yoga chitta vritti nirodha’ which is translated as 'Yoga stills the fluctuations of the mind'. So the act of practicing yoga, with awareness

and acceptance of the body, mind and environment, in the present moment, is mindfulness in itself.

Talk me through one of your classes…

I teach a traditional holistic yoga, influenced by my early years practicing Ashtanga Yoga. My classes are a down-to-earth and accessible mixture of movement, asana, breath work, relaxation and laughter.

Sometimes, on the beach we form a big circle and work together in some group postures, which are really fun. Every class always ends with some floor work and a wonderful Shavasana (relaxation) lying down, listening to the ocean. It’s best to bring your own yoga mat if you can as we have limited available.

What’s the response been like to your classes?

This year will be my fifth year teaching yoga on Swansea Bay; the response has been incredible. We started getting over 50 students a week fairly quickly, peaking at over 200 participants one evening in June last year.

I think the fact the class is donation only really appeals to people, and its informal setting helps you feel more at ease and part of a weekly yoga community!

Beach Yoga, Swansea Bay was named as one of the top Beach Yoga classes in the UK in 2016 by Red Bull and last summer featured on MTV Fit on Facebook. 

A new way of providing NHS dental care in Wales Swansea dental practices are successfully piloting a system which is freeing their time and helping them take on more patients.

I

nstead of being measured against meeting activity targets, two practices have instead been asked to focus on prevention rather than cure.

Already at one practice, this new way of working has led to them seeing over 3,000 more patients.

Traditionally, NHS dentists are paid according to how many ‘units of dental activity’ they carried out, but this led to dentists being driven to meet their targets, rather than focusing on giving out oral health advice.

Now, however, they are being relieved of those targets and encouraged to concentrate on preventing cavities rather than filling them.

The scheme is being phased in gradually all across Wales, but it’s been pioneered in Swansea by two practices that have shown it is better for patients, better for staff and actually improves access to NHS dental care.

Eastside Dental, based in the Beacon Health Centre in Swansea’s SA1 district, is one of these practices and had all its units of dental activity (UDA) targets taken away when it joined the pilot scheme. The other practice is Belgrave in Uplands.

“The idea behind the change was to help people do more to look after their own teeth on a daily basis so that they don’t have to visit the dentist as often. This in

turn gives more people access to NHS dentistry,” said Paul Ridgewell, the principal dentist at Eastside.

“We asked to join the pilot scheme because instead of being driven by targets, we wanted to focus on what was best for the patient. Under the UDA system you end up chasing your own tail and meeting the target becomes all-consuming.”

Paul’s innovative approach has seen his practice expand from a one-man clinic in Port Tennant to stateof-the-art facilities in SA1, looking after more than 13,000 patients with 32 staff. Some 95% of their work is with NHS clients and some of the more famous private patients include members of the Swans and Ospreys.

David Morgan, Eastside’s customer service manager, said: “The old way of working was not patient focused and the real danger was that patients were assessed for the number of UDAs they could yield, rather than on their actual needs. Under the new system, it is just the opposite and it is in our interests to do a good job so the patients don’t need to come back so often.

“The automatic six-month check-up is gone because patients are now recalled according to their risk and needs, which means we have more time to invest in patients with complex needs.

“We risk-categorise patients by asking them what they are doing at home, whether they are eating a lot of sugary food, drinking fizzy drinks, whether they are constantly grazing and so on. They feel it benefits them because it is tailored for them and not just generic advice. The emphasis is very much on showing people what they can do for themselves,” said David.

The success of the new way of working at Eastside

convinced Wales’ chief dental officer, Dr Colette Bridgman, and Welsh health minister, Vaughan Gething, that the scheme should be extended to other practices across Wales.

The changes are being introduced gradually so that the effects can be closely monitored, and by April 2019, 52 practices across Wales will have some of their targets reduced so that they can start to focus more on prevention.

The practices are still being measured on how they are performing, but in different ways, for example on how many individual patients they are seeing.

Eastside practice manager Joel Seith said the number of patients they are seeing has gone up from 10,000 patients to over 13,000 - on the same budget.

After years of neglecting her teeth, bus driver Sharon Brown is happy to be under the holistic care of Eastside Dental Practice.

She said: “I spent a lot of time moving around the country when I was younger so it was hard to hold onto a dentist. My job as a bus driver hasn’t helped either because I have to work all sorts of shifts and often long days, so it’s not good for routines and you end up eating all sorts of rubbish and being too tired to look after your teeth.

“I’ve found the staff very helpful and they always remember me personally. I’ve been given a plan today of what I need to do at home and I’m coming back in a couple of weeks to see how I’ve got on.” 

They also have an ever-changing salad bar which you can select from to create a salad box to go. The Market Pantry caters for everyone with a range of vegan and vegetarian options.

With National Picnic Week from 21-30 June, quarter finalist of BBC One’s Britain’s Best Home Cook, Katie Davies, shares her picnic must-haves.

Her infamous picnic loaf with wild garlic pesto and moreish chocolate chip cookies will make you flavour of the month.

ith Swansea’s beautiful parks now in full bloom, what better way to relax and appreciate nature than with a tasty picnic?

And if the grass has got your hay fever sufferers in a bit of a tizzy, Gower’s award-winning beaches also make for a picture-perfect picnic setting.

Wild garlic is in season from March to June and usually in abundance in woodlands around south Wales; it’s easily identified by its garlicky smell. My favourite use for wild garlic is this pesto recipe. I think it really showcases the flavour of the wild garlic. It’s like a little jar of sunshine in the fridge just waiting to liven up any dish.

Wild garlic pesto can be added to most meals, with fabulous results; stir through pasta, melt onto freshly roasted vegetables, drop into soups for a pop of flavour, or sprinkle over an ordinary salad to make it zing!

wild garlic pesto Wild garlic pesto will keep in the fridge for about a week. To freeze, place in an ice cube tray; once solid, transfer to a zip lock bag.

Ingredients:  120g wild garlic  juice of half a lemon (might need more)  15 walnut halves  2 handfuls of finely grated Parmesan  olive oil  salt  garlic pepper (ground black pepper if you prefer)

Method: 1. Thoroughly wash the wild garlic breaking off the hard stems.

2. Add the garlic to a food processor with a glug of olive oil, blitz the leaves, and if dry, add a little more olive oil.

3. Add the walnuts, Parmesan and lemon juice; season, blitz and taste. Tasting is very important with this recipe as you can add a little bit more or less of any of the ingredients to get your desired flavour.

4. Add more olive oil if required.

picnic loaf This recipe allows you to be as creative as you like, using whatever ingredients you prefer, and it makes a delicious alternative to sandwiches.

Ingredients:  400g tin loaf  3-4 tbsps. of wild garlic pesto (or use your favourite shop bought pesto)  3-4 tbsps. mayonnaise  2 chicken breasts  spinach  6 tomatoes, sliced  sliced chorizo  6 slices streaky bacon  2 balls of mozzarella

Method: 1. Prepare the day before your picnic.

2. Slice the chicken breast and season well… cook on a griddle pan for 2-3 minutes each side until cooked through and slight browned.

3. Add the bacon to a cold frying pan, then increase the heat to medium/high and cook until browned and crispy.

4. Cut the top off the loaf and hollow out the middle; you can blitz and freeze the removed bread to use as breadcrumbs for future recipes.

5. Combine the mayonnaise and pesto and spoon a generous layer all over the inside of the loaf. Don’t forget the bottom of the lid!

6. Start layering the ingredients, seasoning each layer lightly: spinach, chorizo, mozzarella, tomatoes, spinach, bacon, chicken, chorizo, mozzarella, tomatoes, and finally spinach.

7. Put the lid back onto the loaf, wrap the loaf in greaseproof paper, then put a heavy book on the top and put in the fridge overnight. 

This dough can be kept in the fridge (covered) for around 2 weeks, so make a large batch and you can have fresh cookies ready for the kids after school!

Ingredients:  50g butter  80g soft brown sugar  80g granulated sugar  2tsp vanilla extract  1 egg  230g self-raising flour  pinch of salt  100g milk chocolate chips  100g dark chocolate chips

Method: 1. Preheat the oven to 190°C, 170°C fan or gas mark 5.

2. Put the butter and sugars into a bowl and beat until light in colour. Beat in the vanilla extract and egg. Stir in the flour with a wooden spoon. Add the chocolate chips and stir well.

3. Using a teaspoon, place balls of the dough on a baking tray and flatten.

4. Bake in the oven for approx. 8 mins; they should be light brown on the edges and still soft in the centre.

5. Leave on the tray for a couple of minutes to firm up and then transfer to a cooling rack. 

Having tried and failed at getting the Gower Doughnut Co’s sugary delights at the Uplands Market and local suppliers, due to their loyal following, I was finally able to taste the goodness for myself after having ordered a box of six mixed flavours for Mother’s Day, which were delivered to my door may I add. Sampling what’s new on the culinary scene

The Beach House at Oxwich A stunning location, an intriguing menu, and a preconceived notion that it’s expensive and probably not worth it. Terrie Cousins took the taste test.

I dined with my partner and 13-year-old son whose regular fix of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares has made him a harsh critic. Would this AA Welsh Restaurant of the Year deliver?

Head chef Hywel Griffith is extremely passionate about local produce; the menu is what I would call reduced, a choice of four starters and four mains, quality over quantity.

For starters, we ordered the wild garlic ravioli and cod. These didn’t appeal to the teenager, but there was a soup on the children's menu.

Our drinks arrived along with an amuse-bouche of crab tartlet, sweet and subtly seasoned on a crispy pastry base. A hint of the chef’s style and what was to come.

We chose a crisp, light Italian Gavi which was well priced and proved to be a perfect choice. The wild garlic sauce was the finishing touch to a very cheesey ravioli with shallots and pennywort. It was a rather nuclear vibrant green, I’m not sure what it added but I would have gladly had another ravioli. My partner’s cod was pronounced the best ever; it was chunky, flaky and topped with Serrano ham on a potato rosti with a cauliflower floret.

“THE LEMON SOLE WAS CHUNKY AND PERFECTLY POACHED AND SKIMMED WITH A LIGHT LAVERBREAD SAUCE” Next, a second complementary course, a ramekin of smoked haddock, leek and potato in a creamy egg foam, accompanied by warm laverbread-crackled bread with a crunchy seeded crust and a quenelle of salted butter. It’s the small touches which make a big difference.

Our main courses were roast rump of lamb and lemon sole. My son opted for pasta with tomato sauce, a teenage portion rather than a child's one.

The sole was chunky and perfectly poached, soft and lemon zesty, skimmed with a light laverbread sauce, on a buttery spaghetti of leeks with cockles in their shells. The lamb was pink, succulent and served with a meaty sauce, quenelles of puréed peas, broccoli and morels.

Dessert was divine. The treacle tart was rich, sweet and tangy. My partner opted for cheese, Perl Lâs melted atop a crumpet, and to my son’s delight, home-made chocolate ice-cream.

Was it expensive? Well, we felt we had value and the total experience was worth it - high quality ingredients, beautifully thought out, skillfully prepared and with top-notch presentation and service. Portion sizes are moderate and maybe not enough for everyone, but I left feeling satisfied and planning to go again.  N.B. The Beach House often welcomes Michelin-starred chefs for special nights - keep an eye out on their social media channels for upcoming dates.
