As a real estate broker, I’ve seen more market shifts than I can count. But what’s happening now is more than just a cyclical adjustment—it’s a fundamental transformation in how business is done. The days of simply relying on traditional lead generation and static business models are fading. Agents who fail to adapt to these changes risk being left behind, while those who embrace new strategies will thrive.

THE IMPACT OF COMMISSION LAWSUITS AND INDUSTRY CHANGES

One of the most significant disruptions in real estate today stems from ongoing commission lawsuits and policy changes. Buyers and sellers are becoming more aware of how commissions work, and transparency is now a non-negotiable part of the business. Agents who are not prepared to clearly articulate their value and justify their commission structures will find themselves struggling to compete. As brokerages, we must equip our agents with the knowledge and communication skills necessary to navigate these conversations confidently.

THE RISE OF THE 100% COMMISSION MODEL

Traditional split-based brokerages may lose their appeal as agents demand more control over their income. With inflation and higher costs of living, the idea of giving a large portion of every commission to a brokerage is no longer

attractive. This is why 100% models, like what we offer at West USA Realty, continue to gain popularity. Agents want to keep more of what they earn while still receiving support, training, and resources. Brokerages that don’t adapt to this expectation will see agents migrating elsewhere.

TECH-DRIVEN CONSUMER EXPECTATIONS

Agents who are still relying on outdated marketing strategies or who resist learning new technology will struggle. From AIpowered CRM systems to automated transaction management and social media-driven lead generation, technology is the backbone of the modern real estate business. As a broker, I emphasize the importance of ongoing education and adoption of these tools to remain competitive.

THE BOTTOM LINE: ADAPT OR GET LEFT BEHIND

The real estate industry is at a crossroads. Change is inevitable, and those who resist it will find themselves losing business to more agile, forward-thinking agents and brokerages. Now more than ever, it’s crucial to be proactive, embrace new business models, utilize technology, and communicate your value effectively.
