CANCELLATION, WITHDRAWALS AND REFUNDS POLICY

GENERAL PROGRAMS

Full credits or refunds will be processed by contacting reception a minimum of 7 DAYS (prior to the start time) for pro-d day, winter break, spring break and summer camps and 3 DAYS (prior to the start time) of all other courses/program start dates (less supply costs).

Full credits or refunds are issued when West Shore Parks & Recreation cancels a program or when the program is not convenient due to course changes.

Every effort is made to cancel in a timely manner (3 to 5 days prior to course start date). Some exceptions may apply.

Refund or credit requests for classes that have passed need to be approved by the program supervisor.

PASSES AND MEMBERSHIPS

Visit Passes, 1 month and 3month memberships and promotional passes are non-transferable and non-refundable but may be upgraded to an annual membership. Annual adult and annual family memberships are eligible for a one-time extension for leaves exceeding 30 days. Leaves less than 30 days may be granted for medical or personal emergencies. Requests may be granted for cancellation of annual memberships for relocating out of the Greater Victoria region or medical reasons. Cancellations are effective at the end of the current month. Regional Annual Pass may be cancelled for medical reasons, relocating out of the Greater Victoria region, or compassionate reasons I.e. lost their job or other financial situation change. Patrons must hand in their regional pass card or provide photographic evidence of card and sticker is destroyed (cut up). The pass is not cancelled until the pass has been returned or photograph received.

Credits are valid for one year from the date of issue. For refunds, payments made by credit card or debit will be credited to original credit/debit card (some restrictions apply). All other refunds are refunded by cheque and processed within 15 working days. A $25 fee may apply to NSF cheques, credit card or electronic fund transfer rejections. Refunds may be granted at the discretion of WSPRS staff. Documentation may be required. Some exceptions may apply and will be listed on your program receipts.

Improve Your Short Game, Improve Your Score.

Located in the lower park at West Shore Parks & Recreation. The JDF Par 3 golf course consists of nine beautifully manicured holes, with yardage ranging from 79 to 170 and seven water hazards, this course is ideal for both the beginner and the experienced player. This course will only take a short commitment of time and is conveniently located only 20 minutes from downtown. Play on a first come first served basis – tee times not required.

Located behind JDF at 1767 Island Hwy. The JDF Golf Course Pro Shop has all the golfing essentials needed including balls, tees, rental clubs, hats, gloves, snacks, cold drinks and fresh coffee!

This session is a great time for skaters aged 6+ to practice their hockey skills.

• No experience necessary.

Duffer

This program is for adults (19+) to hit the ice for some fun, non-contact hockey. Full gear required.

Family Stick and Puck guidelines have recently changed.

Everyone is welcome. Drop-in to JDF Arena and pay a toonie, skate rentals are just a toonie as well.

A leisurely skate to music designed for adults. A great way to stay in shape.

This program is for adults, to hit the ice for some fun, non-contact hockey.

Full gear required. Call 478-8384 ext 2209 to sign up. Ages 19+

Bring a friend or the whole family and enjoy an afternoon of games, prizes and on-ice fun. Our special family rate covers up to 5 family members for only $13.90

An ideal opportunity to introduce your toddler to ice skating. Parents participate with their children on the ice, playing with various equipment.

This session is a great time for skaters aged 6+ to practice their hockey skills. This session is intended for families to experience a slower paced stick and puck environment. Helmets required for all regardless of age. Children are required to come with a guardian. Guardians do not need to skate but will need to stay in the arena to watch the session. One side of the ice will be for soft pucks and individuals with limited gear. Children must have full gear and hockey gloves to use hard pucks. Pucks will be provided. No experience necessary. Staff will be on the ice to provide pointers. No skate assists available. Skate rentals and helmet rentals are available. 40 participants maximum.

We want you to be the best skater you can be! PowerWest Athletics (PWA) programs emphasize correct technical skating including stride development, agility, speed, balance, quickness, and readiness through the effective use of edges.

Our programs are unique in their program format, low ratio of instructors to participants, and are known for their professional skating instruction. Striving for excellence for 30+ years in coaching with novice to pro hockey players. Instructed by Mena Westhaver and her team of PowerWest Athletics coaches.

Sunset Skates

Off season does not have to be off ice! These programs have an emphasis on skating skills with and without a puck, inclusive of edge work, full ice power and small area drills. Technique is key to reach your power potential with each stride. Become faster and more efficient this summer!

Edge classes cover all skating skills and edges: forwards and backwards, transitions, accelerations, and decelerations with an emphasis on balance, control, power, and strength.

Bust the rust and be ready to play with more efficiency, power, balance, and strength. Skating is the emphasis of these programs; hockey skills are included. Participants will receive a PWA jersey, and a water bottle is included for U7/U9.

Day Camps - 12 & Under

Mini Hockey 4-6 Years

We will combine a mini skating lesson, a mini hockey practice and end with a mini hockey game. Bring your hockey player dressed in full gear and together we will learn all the basics. Jersey and water bottle included in registration fee.

Focus on your development! Available for skating and hockey skills. Participants will be divided into similar ages and abilities. If you want to create your own group, you can! Register each individual and then please let Mena know.

One Stop Hockey Shop for Mixed Players & Female Only

Skating skills, hockey skills, game sense and action - aka, let's play hockey! This program is a favorite with the hockey players and the parents - the kids are provided high level coaching with fun attached! Coaches Marty Westhaver and Megan Bouveur both play/played high level university hockey and have a passion for sharing their talents on the ice with others. Full gear and neck guard required.

OUR FACILITY

The Juan de Fuca pool has a variety of features and amenities. Our pool is fully accessible for swimmers of all abilities. Equipment and amenities include:

• Male, female and universal changerooms

• Steam room, sauna and hot tub

• 8 lane 25 metre pool

• Leisure pool including lazy river and tot slide (only for sliders under 48”)

• Big blue waterslide (only for sliders over 48”)

• Aquatic wheelchairs

• Zero depth entry ramp into the leisure pool

• Handicare motorized lifts in universal changeroom, and on the pool deck (provides access to hot tub, main and leisure pool)

• Hand crank chair lift into main pool

DROP-IN ACTIVITIES

Lane Swimming

For continuous lane swimmers. Swimming pace is identified through signage in each lane, and includes casual, slow, moderate, and fast. Water walking is not permitted in continuous lane swimming lanes.

Water Walking

For water walking in the lane pool. Continuous lane swimming is not permitted in water walking lane.

AquaFit

Get fit in the pool! AquaFit classes are great for all fitness levels. Classes take place in the main pool, either in deep water or combo class (both deep and shallow).

Leisure Swim

Leisure time for adults and families with children. Access only to leisure pool and hot tub, no access to main pool. Age restrictions may apply.

Fun Swim

Fun for all ages! Main pool, leisure pool, hot tub, waterslide, rope swing and spray features are available.

Waterslide

You must be 48” tall to ride. Single riders only.

Youth Swim

Admission $2. All pool areas available for youth only swim for those ages 11-18. All pool areas including steam room, sauna and hot tub closed except for youth.

Adult Swim

For adults 19+ only. All pool areas are open.

Child Admission Policy

All children under the age of 7 must stay within arm’s reach of an adult (16+) at all times. Maximum 3 children per adult. Children 7-9 years must have an adult in the facility during their visit.

Aqua Zumba

Come make a splash by adding low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercise to your fitness routine. Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles with less impact on your joints so you can really let loose.

TRAINING & EDUCATION

Bronze Medallion

Prerequisites: Minimum 13 years old by last class or Bronze Star. Recommended swimming ability equivalent to Swim Skills 8 or higher.

Develops an understanding of lifesaving principles. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defence and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a time swim.

Bronze Cross

Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion

For lifesavers who want more advanced training. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced Lifesaving Society programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certifications.

National Lifeguard Pool Option

Prerequisites: 15 years of age by last day of program, Bronze Cross, and Standard First Aid.

Develops fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required to be a lifeguard. Worth 2 credits for Grade 12. 100% attendance is mandatory.

National Lifeguard Pool Option Recert

Prerequisites: National Lifeguard Pool option Lifeguards need to recertifiy every two years to remain current.

WSPR Swim Instructor Program

Prerequisite: 15 years old by the last day of the course AND Bronze Cross.

Interviews for hiring are guaranteed upon successful completion of this course. For those interested in becoming a swim instructor with West Shore Parks & Recreation. This course plus a supervised/guided apprenticeship covers everything an instructor needs to know to teach with us.

West Shore Masters Swim Club 18 Years +

Experienced swimmers of all levels are invited to join us and improve their strokes and fitness with a program designed and led by Led by a NCCP certified coach.   Members must be able to swim a minimum of 1000m in an hour and 200m continuously.  Swimmers need to provide their own fins and pull buoys.  This equipment will be used frequently.

Employment

The path to working at Juan de Fuca has two streams – swim instructor and lifeguard. We may hire swim instructors with a Swim Instructor certification, Standard First Aid, and Bronze Cross. To lifeguard, you must also complete the National Lifeguard program in addition to being a swim instructor. Those without a swim instructor certification may apply, however applicants must be registered in a swim instructor program as a condition of employment. Please see below for an overview of requirements.

The Juan de Fuca weightroom is a comprehensive workout facility for individuals of all levels and abilities to meet their exercise needs. It is fully accessible with automatic doors and wide aisles.

The weightroom offers a variety of equipment, including:

• Matrix brand treadmills, elliptical machines, upright and recumbent bikes, Climbmill step machines, spin bikes, air assault bike, rowing machines and more!

Golden Strength

This specialized small group class is for four participants ready to advance to the Weightroom. With mutual encouragement and an uplifting environment, the program offers personalized guidance in strengthbased exercises using various equipment. Participants will enhance cardiovascular flow, range of motion, balance, and overall strength, boosting confidence for improved daily movements. Take your workout to the Fitness Studio during one of the open drop-in times to enjoy extra space along with a variety of equipment. The studio is complete with Spin bikes, dumbbells, kettlebells, heavy bags and the Queenax Functional Training system for a variety of exercise options.

Small Group Personal Training

This group personal training class will motivate you on your step toward a healthier lifestyle and help you achieve results. Sessions include cardiovascular training, weight machines, free weights and more for a full body, progressive workout. Work together, stay accountable and reach your goals to feel your best.

Bootcamp

Bootcamp is a full body workout, cardio and strength conditioning class all wrapped into one! Class variations include athletic drills, strength and conditioning movements that will enhance your cardio, endurance, and muscular strength.

Cycle 60

A 60-minute indoor cycling class. Work through a variety of sprinting and hill climbing drills to build your cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and endurance. Work at your own intensity –suitable for all levels.

Cycle Strength

Enjoy an indoor cycling class and finish with an upper body strength workout for the ultimate balanced workout.

Indoor Cycling

Indoor Cycling classes are a great cardiovascular, no impact workout set at your own intensity. Your instructor will simulate a variety of sprinting and hill climbing drills enabling you to build your cardiovascular fitness and endurance. Classes are for all levels, beginners to advanced.

LIIT

Light up your fitness routine with low intensity interval training (LIIT). LIIT consists of periods of low impact exercise performed in sets of intervals combined with longer periods of rest. Enjoy the benefits of cardiovascular and strength training to challenge to yourself without overtaxing your body. LIIT workout is both accessible and safe for a variety of different types of exercisers ideal for people who are older, new to exercise, or recovering from an injury.

On the Ball

A low impact, all-around fun full body class to increase your core strength, balance and flexibility. This class will provide a cardiovascular workout with muscle endurance and core training using both the large stability ball and Pilates ball. Finish with a stretch to release hard working muscles. Suitable for all levels.

Power Circuit

Full body strength and endurance exercises will get your heart pumping, muscles working and body feeling great in this efficient and fun class! A continuous series of full body strength, core exercises and cardio intervals. Suitable for all levels of fitness.

Functional Fitness

A well-rounded full body workout focusing on strength, agility, stability movements and flexibility using a variety of equipment, including free weights, body weight, TRX trainers, bands and balls. Move through exercises involving multiple joints and muscle groups and movement planes to enhance full body function, strength, conditioning and core.

Total Body Conditioning

Achieve a full body workout through this strength & conditioning freestyle format class. Focusing on form and technique this class will utilize body weight, body bars, dumbbells, and more to increase overall strength, tone and function.

Improve your strength and flexibility in this class designed for older adults. This program begins with a warm-up, then focuses on using tubing and free weights to tone and strengthen your muscles. Gentle stretching completes the workout.

NEW! Age Defying Fitness

This program is designed for people who want to stay active and improve their mobility, balance, and overall fitness as they get older. It will include yoga and functional movements to keep joints healthy, improve flexibility, and enhance overall wellness.

Body Sculpt*

This class is focused on helping you get & stay strong. We will be utilizing free weights, your body weight, stability balls, body bars, tubing and more to challenge all your muscles – especially your core! Have fun getting fit!

Core & Booty*

A full hour focused on strengthening the core muscles and redefining the lower body. For all levels of fitness.

Essentrics: Aging Backwards

Discover how to move with pleasure and harmony, how relaxing and stretching muscles strengthens them and makes your joints happy. Essentrics is a full body workout without impact or weights. It is a slow and gentle full body stretch and strengthen workout that focuses on increasing mobility, flexibility and relieving chronic aches, pains and joint stiffness.

Essentrics: Stretch & Tone

The Essentrics workout quickly transforms the body through a dynamic and fluid combination of strengthening and stretching. Based on the science of essentric movement, the muscles are challenged in a lengthened position, resulting in a long, lean and toned shape.

Fitness is Golden

A low impact class to improve cardiovascular flow, range of motion, balance, and strength to increase muscle condition and build confidence to improve mobility and strength to daily movements. Chairs are available to assist with balance. This class is ideal for those new to exercise, all levels and ages.

UPLIFT classes start with a cardio warm-up and transition to standing routines with equipment, alternating between the upper and lower body. This UPLIFTING experience leaves participants feeling strong and confident.

TIME

Together in Movement and Exercise is an exercise class for individuals with balance and mobility challenges from conditions such as Stroke, acquired brain injury or multiple sclerosis. This specialized circuit style fitness class is offered in partnership with Island Health. Participants must be able to independently walk 10 metres with or without a walking aid, without the assistance of someone else.

TRX Combo*

The TRX suspension trainer is a total-body training system that uses leveraged body weight to build power, strength, balance, and flexibility for people of all ages and fitness levels. This class will combine the TRX suspension trainer with a circuit of full body exercises to keep the heart rate up for a fun, core focused workout.

Generation Health Community Program

Generation Health Community offers free 10-week programs for families across BC with children ages 8-12 years old. Learn as a family about healthy eating, physical activity, reducing recreational screentime, sleep routines and wellness. The program is for families to complete together; at least one parent or caregiver must attend the sessions with the child (it does not need to be the same caregiver or parent each week).

The program is offered both virtually via Zoom for families across British Columbia, and in-person in many communities including West Shore Parks & Recreation in Victoria: Thursdays 6-8pm, April 10 – June 12, 2025. If your child is not within age range or the program schedule does not work for your family, there is a selfdirected online option available

Hawaiian Hula Dance for Seniors

Hawaiian Hula Dance for Seniors is a fun dance and movement class that helps you exercise your mind, body, and soul. Tailored for seniors, come learn basic Hawaiian hand, feet, and body dance movements, teaching you fluidity of movement and grace. Sway and move to the music of Hawaii and Polynesia in this low-impact class that will keep you active, while improving your coordination, balance, and memory.

YOUTH FITNESS

Regional Youth Weightroom Orientation

This orientation will provide 13–15-year old’s with an introduction on how to safely use a recreation centre weightroom. Content will include weightroom procedures, etiquette; cardio and weight training guidelines and instruction on how to use and strength training equipment.

Upon completion of this orientation, participants will receive a sticker which permits them to access weightrooms at the following facilities: Esquimalt Recreation Centre, City of Victoria Recreation Centre, Saanich Recreation Centres, and West Shore Recreation, Oak Bay Recreation Centre, Panorama Recreation Centre and SEAPARC.

Youth Strength & Conditioning (13-16yrs)

This program is designed for youth that have completed the Regional Youth Weightroom Orientation and are interested in expanding their knowledge of strength training in the weightroom. They will learn foundational bodyweight and weightlifting movements, with a focus on proper form, technique, safety, and spotting. This program aims to develop strength and coordination skills that will benefit participants throughout their lives.

Hatha Flow Yoga

Traditional Hatha postures are sequenced to encourage fluid movement between postures. This fluid movement, partnered with breath awareness, helps create a strong connection between mind, body and spirit. This class is suitable for all-levels and blends stretching, strengthening, balancing, and relaxation.

Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with the emphasis on the “power house” core strength. Fusion incorporates exercises from different workout styles, including yoga, strength training, and barre. In this class the emphasis is core, posture, toning, balance, flexibility, stretching and connecting mind and body.

Relaxing Yoga

Functional Fitness

A well-rounded full body workout focusing on strength, agility, stability, and flexibility using a variety of equipment, including free weights, body weight, bands, and balls. Move through exercises involving multiple joints and muscle groups and movement planes to enhance full body function, strength, conditioning, and core.

Do you need specialized exercises to assist your recovery or have a medical condition that your exercises need to address or be tailored around? Our team of kinesiologists and exercise rehab professionals can help develop an exercise plan specifically for you and demonstrate you how to perform your exercises safely and effectively. Written medical clearance may be required before participation. Exercise rehabilitation requires an assessment by one of our qualified Kinesiologists, then a follow up appointment to show you your exercise program.

Aqua Therapy

This water therapy class is for people graduating from one-onone rehabilitation sessions or those who require the support and guidance of the Exercise Rehabilitation Specialist. One-hour pool exercise sessions will include individual attention and program adaptation to give the best chance for improvements in strength, fitness, and function. This class is best suited for individuals with joint replacements and chronic pain. Prerequisite: Rehabilitation assessment, session, and medical clearance.

Minds in Motion®

Minds in Motion® is a fitness and social program for people living with any form of early stage dementia with a friend, family member or care partner. This program is offered in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of B.C. Gentle exercises are followed by social activities designed to be enjoyed in pairs. Care partners must attend.

ACCESSIBILITY IN THE POOL:

The pool deck offers three wheelchairs of various sizes that can be used by patrons in the changerooms or be pushed right into the leisure pool via the access ramp.

To access the main pool we have a hand crank chair lift that lowers into the shallow end or an overhead sling lift that can lowered in the deep end. The overhead sling lift can also access the leisure pool or hot tub for those wanting to use those pools.

In our universal changeroom we have two accessibility stalls with a shower, sink and toilet, that are equipped with adult size change beds as well as overhead lifts that are available to use.

Rehab an injury, improve your conditioning and find freedom in your workout.

Accessibility equipment is essential for ensuring that all individuals, regardless of physical abilities, can engage in effective cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and flexibility exercises. Our weightroom has specialized equipment such as:

• 3 NuStep’s

• Recumbent bikes

• Upper body ergometer

• Sci Fit upper and lower body ergometer with a removable seat for wheelchair accessibility

• Raised wide platform bench to do exercises and stretches on without getting on the ground

• Resistance bands

• Cable machines with various handle attachments

The weightroom also has wide pathways in between the equipment for easy maneuverability and automatic doors to welcome you.

By incorporating these adaptive features, we create a welcoming environment that promotes fitness and well-being for everyone.

Work with our experienced and qualified kinesiologists and athletic therapist with an individual session in the weightroom or pool! Individual sessions may be suitable for individuals with chronic conditions, muscle and joint pain, pre- and post surgery, and anyone wanting to improve their overall physical health.

Kids Can Ride 7-10 Years

Lifelong habits start at a young age. The sooner kids are taught safe bike handling skills, the sooner they develop confidence riding their bikes. This course helps kids develop safe cycling habits and bike handling skills through a series of fun games and activities. The introductory course covers topics such as the parts of the bike and how to maintain them, bike handling and maneuvering, starting and stopping, signalling, avoiding hazards, and more. Please note that kids entering our courses should be able to ride a bike without training wheels.

Learn to Fish

5-15 Years

Join the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC for this 2-hour session where you will learn about hatchery roles, fish identification, proper fish handling, tackle, rod rigging and casting, followed by hands on fishing at the lake! C.A.S.K Youth/Adult Karate

This class is a co-ed program, offering beginner Wado Karate training. In this program, physical fitness (ie. flexibility, strength, stamina) are practiced in a very scientific and progressive manner, while learning basic karate technique. Self defense is also emphasized.

Iaido 15+ Years

These clinics are the perfect way to learn the game of golf and have some fun. Strong emphasis will be placed on the fundamentalsproper grip, posture, stance, and rules of the game. On the last day we will play on the course. Golf clubs are available for use if needed.

Women With Drive

16+ Years

Have you always wanted to try golf but never had the chance? Then this is the program for you!

Women with Drive is ideal for women with little to no golf experience. Hosted by PGA of Canada Golf Professional – Craig Rencher, this program includes four, 60-minute lessons at Victoria Golf Centre (Green Acres), and as a bonus receive a pass to play the JDF course at Juan De Fuca Golf Course.

PICKLEBALL

Pickleball 101: Adult Intro to Pickleball 16+ Years

Intended for those new to Pickleball. Participants learn through practice and play the following basics to get them started: paddle play; equipment & set up; rules & lingo; scoring in play. Paddles provided.

Pickleball 102: Intermediate Pickleball Fun & Fundamentals 16+ Years

Intended to build a foundation of skills for recreational game play. Participants learn active routines for practice drills at the net, transition zone and baseline that develop footwork and improve strokes for game play. Paddles can be provided.

In WSPR’s Move. Learn. Play.-based Licensed preschools, children have fun, build relationships and explore the world in which they live. Certified Early Childhood Educators who are also trained in fundamental movement and physical literacy skills incorporate basic components of physical literacy into the preschool programs. The aim is to give children the motivation, confidence and skills to be active for life.

$231/2.5 hour party duration.

The booking includes 2.5 hours of time inclusively and only the 5 and under Bouncy castle party includes a party host. The birthday party booking packages are based on a maximum of 20 guests.

For additional guests, please pay a drop-in rate at reception.

Important information

• The party room time does not have an attendant.

• We DO NOT Supply: tablecloths, balloons, décor, food, tableware, candles, cake knives, etc.

• Parties can bring their own treats, music and decorations for their event rooms.

• Rental spaces do not include a fridge, kitchen, or the ability to warm items.

• Please be advised we are a nut-aware facility and ask that no nuts are brought into the spaces.

This party is perfect for preschoolers and offers a play space on the blue floor of the ISC 1. Our bouncy castle is provided for the little ones but not suitable for older children or adults. An assortment of toys for kids to enjoy. Also included in the package is the playroom space, perfect for little ones to sit at low tables and enjoy presents and a treat.

Horseback riding lessons are a great way to develop confidence, balance and coordination. Learn to ride on safe, well trained school horses from qualified instructors. The program at Cedar Vista Stables includes riding lessons, basic horsemanship and safety around horses focusing on having fun while acquiring an appreciation for these incredible animals. Riding is a great way to get fit in an enjoyable outdoor environment.

A competitive non-impact sport?

Check out the Juan de Fuca Lawn Bowls Club. Lawn Bowling is a competitive sport open to all ages and levels (social, recreational, competitive and elite). The only equipment required is a pair of flat soled shoes (no heels.) Lawn Bowling is similar to curling except the jack is a moveable object. Men and women compete equally so it is enjoyable for couples. Social and recreational open bowls are played with optional attendance. Schedule or league bowling is available for the competitive. Morning Adventures Camp

7-10 Years

Eligibility: For children who have completed Grade 1 (born in 20152018)

Start your morning off with some fun arts, crafts, outdoor play, physical literacy, and more! Join us for the ½ day morning camp and get your day started with plenty of engaging activities. You can also sign up for an afternoon ½ day camp to continue the fun! Please note that if you choose to attend the Afternoon Adventures Camp as well, children will need to be picked up by an adult between camps. This camp will feature a great balance of quiet and energizing activities, ensuring that campers have tons of fun and start their day off on the right foot. Perfect for children looking to explore, be creative, and get active in the morning!

Afternoon Adventures Camp

Join us for the ½ day afternoon camp where we’ll have tons of fun! Our adventures will include arts, crafts, theme days, outdoor activities, and more. Padawan Training Camp

8-12

Years

Prepare to embark on an epic adventure at Padawan Training Camp, where young recruits will begin their journey in the ways of the Force! This camp is perfect for aspiring Jedi (or even curious Sith) who want to explore the Star Wars universe in an exciting, hands-on way.

Campers will learn the skills of a true Padawan, from mastering lightsaber techniques to understanding the ancient wisdom of the Force. They'll face thrilling challenges, complete exciting missions, and work as a team to protect the galaxy from the forces of evil. Along the way, campers will engage in creative games, crafting Jedi gear, and experiencing thrilling space battles.

By the end of the camp, each camper will have their own Jedi Certificate, proving they’ve completed their training and are ready to take on whatever adventures come their way.

Dance Sampler Camp 6-9 Years

Discover many styles of dance including hip hop, jazz, and ballet. We will work on basic moves and choreography. Fun games, crafts and outdoor play round out our week of camp.

Young Actor's Film & TV Acting Camp 8-12 Years

Do you want to be on TV or in the movies? Let's explore the world of film acting! Work with trained actors to learn the basics of how to approach a script, build a character, and film an audition. Through play, improv games, and text analysis, you will become confident in how to approach a script and create a real audition. At the end of the week, you will receive a link to download your own self taped audition. This camp is led by Circus Actors Studio.

Learn to play the piano with friends and have fun singing with them too! Learn new songs, keyboard training, rhythm, dynamics, reading of bass and treble clefs. We'll cover popular songs for beginners on the ukulele in this fun camp!

Choose from bass guitar, electric guitar, piano and drum set. Campers will learn rhythm and theory for their instrument and to play in sync with each other. Let’s transform observations about our world into hands-on science experiments! You will design your own experiments, make predictions, and reflect on your findings. Many science themes await like nature, chemistry, states of matter, and propulsion. There are also arts/crafts and outdoor games. Enjoy the sensory experience of discovering science!

Music Video Production 9-12 Years

Make your own music and music video! Camp time will be split between digital music composition, video filming and editing. Use amazing software tools to craft your very own song from scratch. We will show you the basics of beats, baselines, chords, and melodies so that your song will sound awesome. Experiment with video, special effects, and TikTok style editing techniques to make your own video as cool as your tune.

Introduction to Coding

9-12 Years

Discover how much fun it is to build your own game! Students will be introduced to basic coding skills with Scratch and get to use those skills to make their very own games. Students will learn how to create their own 2D vector artwork to make characters and levels that are entirely their own. The final project is a game that you can access and play or proudly share with friends online.

BYTE CAMP

3D Animation 11-14 Years

Dreaming of a career with PIXAR? Ever wonder how those awesome 3D animated movies like Shrek, Toy Story and Frozen are made? Spend the week learning how by modeling, animating and telling your own stories in 3D. You'll use Blender, a wonderful (& free!) 3D software, to design characters that jump off the screen and then make them come alive by adding voices, soundtracks and completing a group-made short film.

3D Video Game Design 11-14 Years

Create your own 3D Video Game! Invent your own digital world levels, adventures and quests using Godot, a great (& free) 3D Game Maker. Learn the most important 3D game design skills in the early part of the week and then use those new skills to create your own game by the end of the week! The final project is a game you can access and play online. Byte Camp's 3D Animation course is a prerequisite.

Introduction to Coding Level 2 9-12 Years

Level-up your coding and artwork skills in this fun and challenging camp. Students will take on advanced character movements and level design to make characters, levels and gameplay that are entirely unique. The final project is a game that you can access and play or proudly share with friends online. Previous coding experience in Scratch or Byte Camp'sIntro to Coding is recommended as a prerequisite.

2D Animation on Tablet 9-12 years

Turn your drawing skills into awesome animation skills on our tablets! We'll show you how to make beautiful animations as wild as your imagination. Participants will learn to storyboard and use some advanced animation skills and principles to make their characters really come alive on the screen. Amaze your friends with the story you can draw in just a week!

Claymation Movie Production 9-12 Years

Make your own clay characters come to life, just like Shaun the Sheep! Participants will work to build their own clay characters, sets and props; develop their own script; shoot their movie scenes; and then learn to edit and add sounds and special effects to complete the whole project. Don't worry parents, there will be plenty of time devoted to outdoor games and activities!

BYTE CAMP

Python Coding Level 1 11-14 Years

Learn Python coding! Master basic coding concepts like variables, loops, and conditionals, and see your creativity come to life with hands-on exercises. The final project? A Python-based program you can proudly share with friends and keep as a fun and functional creation to showcase your coding journey!

Foundations in AI 11-14 Years

AI is taking over the world. Learn how computers think, how to think like computers, and how to make the computers think like us. This camp will explore the basics of AI and give students an opportunity to build and train their own bots as they compete with other bots in simulated competitions.

Defend your castle against the mobs with the power of Redstone! Each day, campers will complete Redstone tutorials and team challenges in our custom Minecraft worlds. Turn your favourite camp games virtual! Using ScratchJr, students will learn the basics of coding and create virtual versions of popular camp games, such as tag, dodgeball, and much more! Once the program ends, continue your ScratchJr journey at home by downloading the free app on your laptop or tablet!

Note to Parents: Our AM half-day camps are scheduled to take a midmorning snack break, but no lunch break. Students are expected to have lunch after being picked up for the day.

Jr. Maker Space - PM Half Day 5-7 Years

Join us for an afternoon of fun and hands-on building! Campers will explore the Engineering Design Process, and its importance to real-life engineers, by building a variety of projects using everyday household supplies. These may include catapults, mazes, ziplines, and so much more! What will you create next? Part of the afternoon will also be spent playing fun, outdoor games!

Note to Parents: Our PM half-day camps are scheduled to take a midafternoon snack break. Students are expected to have lunch before being dropped off for camp.

Fill your week with action, adventure and a lot of comedy with Film Camp in A Box Senior Claymation and Lego animation camp. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the stop motion animation process, including pre-production, production and post-production. Working in small crews, they will learn about stop motion animation, set design, script writing and editing. Campers will then create their own stop motion animation and edit a short film and movie trailer, complete with sound effects, music, voice, sound effects and special effects. Movies will be presented at our red carpet, popcorn film festival and archived on our digital theatre.

Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the filmmaking process, including pre production, production and post production. Campers will then create, act in and edit a short film and movie trailer, adding special effects, music, voices, titles and sound effects. Participants will have the opportunity to use our latest technology, including Mac books, 4K cameras, tripods, boom microphones, green screens and the use of an aerial drone. Crews will also create their own promotions and advertising links to showcase their short film to the world. Movies will be presented at our red carpet, popcorn film festival and archived on our digital theatre.

OUTDOOR & ADVENTURE

Archery Full-Day Camp 9-17 Years

This summer camp is designed for young archers of all skill levels who are looking to have fun and learn new skills. We will cover everything from the basics of archery to advanced techniques, and we'll have plenty of time for games and other activities.

We'll spend the week learning how to shoot a bow and arrow, practicing our aim, and improving our accuracy. We'll also play fun archery games, and we'll even have a chance to try out some other activities.

This camp is a great way to learn a new skill, improve focus, concentration and enhance coordination, get some exercise, and make new friends. We hope to see you there!

Roll Right Quad & Inline Skate Summer Camp 7-12 Years

Discover the Roll Right Skate Park program. Participants learn how to safely progress at their own pace through structured levels, mastering foundational skating skills and exploring new tricks in the skate park! No experience or gear needed, just bring a skateboard helmet! Skate rentals are included. Recreation Leadership 13-16 Years

Participants will be introduced to the skills necessary to become an effective youth leader and will build on their existing skills in areas including communication, leadership, teamwork, cooperation, behaviour management, job hunting, first aid certifications and more. All participants will then gain hands-on experience by working with West Shore staff during summer camps. (One-week full-time volunteer hours is required with one of West Shore camps.) Program graduates will receive a certificate of completion and an evaluation from camp leaders, great tools to enhance future employment opportunities. A summer recreation pass is included.

Pencil Portraits

Learn the basics of drawing a portrait and how to achieve a startling likeness from life or photo. Course includes study of angles, distances, mapping and measuring. Learn the use of values (lights and darks) to define planes of the face.

Watercolours

Beginners will learn about materials, composition, design, colour and medium control and techniques. Experienced watercolourists will be challenged to further their skills. Each session is a paintalong demo of skies, water, snow, trees and mountains. Take home a completed painting at the end.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Better Portrait Photography by your Smartphone

Do you want to learn how to capture artistic, emotion-filled portraits of your children, grandchildren, or parents? How about spontaneous images of friends or interesting people you meet while traveling?

This course teaches you how to photograph portraits and capture the emotions and character of your subjects. We will focus on both candid, unposed photos and traditional posed portraits. You will learn basic camera or smartphone settings, as well as the secrets of composition and lighting for successful portrait photography. Requirements: A smartphone with three optical camera lenses, released in 2019 or later.

An orientation is required for all those who are new to the studio and wish to use the studio for Open Studio Time and Drop-in Pottery. Previous pottery experience required.

Program Cancelled?

Sadly, excellent programs are sometimes cancelled when people wait until last minute to register. We need to make decisions three to five days prior to the start date of our programs to allow for proper preparation. Please register early to avoid disappointment.

Ballroom Dance – your way to good health (4 options listed below)

Looking for a fun and social activity that enhances your physical, mental and emotional well-being? Look no further, ballroom dancing is the answer. Ballroom dance improves balance, coordination and strength, cognitive function, relieves stress, is an outlet to express oneself artistically and emotionally, and fosters social connection and community. It’s the ideal activity for couples to enjoy together, and a great way to meet and make new friends. As this is an activity that requires two people dancing together, please be sure to register with a partner.

Wedding Day Dancing

Don’t leave the traditional first dance as a newly married couple to chance. We can help you prepare for this special event. We’ll cover how to approach the floor with poise, basic step patterns, how to move as one and how to finish with flair.

Introduction to Swing

Whether you call it Jitterbug, Boogie Woogie, Swing or Jive, it’s been around for decades and is still one of the most popular, fun and enduring dances ever devised. Prior dance experience is not required. As this is an activity that requires two people dancing together, please be sure to register with a partner.

Intermediate Swing

You have learned the basics and are ready for more! Join us as we introduce a selection of new figures and variations to increase your repertoire for added interest and fun. Please be sure to register with a partner.

Line Dancing

Love to dance but no partner at present? There are a number of easy and fun ballroom, latin & swing line dances for which no partner is required so you can enjoy moving to the music on the dance floor. It’s a great way get some mild exercise in a safe and social setting.

Hawaiian Hula Dance for Seniors

Hawaiian Hula Dance for Seniors is a fun dance and movement class that helps you exercise your mind, body, and soul. Tailored for seniors, come learn basic Hawaiian hand, feet, and body dance movements, teaching you fluidity of movement and grace. Sway and move to the music of Hawaii and Polynesia in this low-impact class that will keep you active, while improving your coordination, balance, and memory.

2025 L.I.F.E Program

L.I.F.E. assists individuals and families with low incomes to access recreation services and programs at all municipal recreation centres in Greater Victoria. The L.I.F.E. Program is designed for individuals and families in the Westshore whose combined gross household income must be at or below Statistic Canada’s estimated low income thresholds for 2023.
