Staff Profile:Katherine

I’m a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness instructor specializing in strength training and empowering individuals to lead strong, active lives. My approach combines structured strength and endurance coaching with fun, engaging group formats, including cardio kickboxing and yoga, to help people experience intentional movement and build confidence in their bodies. My passion for health and resilience started from my own personal experience: after becoming a mother and navigating the loss of several close family members, i committed to becoming strong, self-reliant, and a positive example for my daughter. For over 6 years, i have helped others do the same, building physical strength, mental clarity and resilience, and creating a lifestyle that supports long-term well-being. I strongly believe movement is essential not just for the body, but for the mind, and i meet every client with compassion, energy, and support. Outside the gym, I’m out hiking, biking, paddleboarding, golfing, skiing, swimming; or spending time with my daughter and our adventurous pack of pets (dog, cat, snake, and fish). I’m here to help you discover your own strength and have fun doing it!

new For 2026

Beginning this Winter, children under 6yrs will not be permitted to register for Swimmer classes, unless they turn 6yrs within the session.

• If your child is under 6yrs, and has previously participated in preschool swimming lessons, please register in preschool levels until they are 6yrs.

• If your child is under 6yrs, but has taken Swimmer lessons with us previously, they will be permitted to continue with the Swimmer levels.

why the chanGe?

We have observed that children under 6yrs often struggle to meet the skill requirements in Swimmer levels. This change helps ensure that each child is placed in the most developmentally appropriate level to support their confidence and progress in the water. Thank you for understanding as we work to improve our programs for all.

Staying active in winter

There are lots of seasonal activities that you can only do during winter!

Some examples include:

• Ice skating

• Cross country skiing

• Snowshoeing

• Build a snowman or snow angel

• Skiing or downhill skiing

• Sledding in West Kelowna - see page 65 for locations and safety tips.

You’ll hardly notice the lower temperature if you layering your clothing and dress for the weather!

• Base Layer: Transports moisture off the skin and moves it towards the surface to evaporate (merino wool, synthetic polyester or polypropylene fabrics).

• Mid-layer like fleece: Adds insulation and traps heat to keep you warm.

Try to find somewhere where you can do your favorite activity indoors:

• Outer Layer: Wind and water resistant. e i d T Z Z i d T

Stay hydrated

You’ll need to drink lots of water when you are active, even when it’s cold outside.

• Dome Play Day - see page 66.

• Youth & Family Gym - see page 67.

• Adult Sports Programs - see page 61.

• Arena Programs - see page 62-64.

• Indoor Walking Track at Royal LePage Place Arena, see page 75.

These programs offer a great way to get a little exercise and have some fun, no commitment required!

Plan ahead

Winter weather can be unpredictable - monitor the weather and plan ahead.

• Sneak in some exercise during TV time. f i T Z d

Everyday ways to keep moving all year:

• Take the stairs whenever possible.

• Get up from your desk and do some quick stretches when you are at work.

• Housework does count! Put on your favorite music and get moving!

come walk the track

InDOOR WALKInG

Come in from the ice and snow and walk laps in the Royal LePage Place arena. Five laps equal one kilometer! M-Su 6:00am-9:00pm

Walking track closed during West Kelowna Warriors games and other special events or closures.

Some of the criterion to apply for the Jumpstart program includes:

• Eligible children are between the ages of 4 and 18 years.

• Eligible children participating in sport and recreation in West Kelowna and Peachland.

• Funding goes to individuals, not to teams.

• Up to $600 per child can be allocated per year.

• Funding should be for a sustained program that lasts a season therefore a one-week camp would not qualify.

• Funding can be provided to the same child for successive seasons, although the goal is that Jump Start continues to fund new children.

• Funding preference is to pay for registration fees with consideration to fund equipment or transportation costs on a case by case basis.

• Applications are not retroactive and must be submitted before the start of the season.

Canadian tire Jumpstart has helped give more than 159,573 kids in financial need, the chance to play. Funding is based on the individual child’s financial need. The goal is to help those children who would not have been able to participate in a physical activity without the assistance of the Jumpstart program.

Research shows that participation in sport and recreation increases a child’s chance of success in life.

volunteer opportunities

Want to make a difference? if you have a special talent or simply want to make a difference in a child’s life, contact the BGC Okanagan to be a volunteer. We need: youth and children’s mentors, program volunteers and special needs assistants. Visit www.bgco.ca to volunteer.

Resilience is more than just an individual’s ability to cope, it also depends on access to supportive environments. The R2 Approach highlights 52 resilience factors, divided into rugged qualities (internal traits like confidence and attitude) and resources (external supports like healthcare or community). Both are essential: inner strength alone isn’t enough without supportive environments. This approach recognizes the shared responsibility of families, schools, and communities in fostering resilience. Our programs use the R2 Approach to help youth strengthen their internal skills and connect with the resources they need to thrive, especially during times of stress or adversity.

creative arts

if you have been inside our Club, you’ve seen how creative and incredibly talented West Kelowna youth are. Their art is displayed with pride throughout our Centre. We are always offering opportunities for youth to engage in creative activities such as tie-dye, painting, crafts, and more.

Life Skills training

to help youth become healthy, successful, and contributing members of society, we offer many life skills training opportunities, including volunteer and leadership opportunities, employment, and education support.

our Sensory room

A safe, calming environment designed to support youth in managing stress, regulating emotions, and finding moments of peace in their day. This low-stimulation space offers gentle lighting, soothing sensory tools, and quiet corners where youth can feel grounded and secure. Whether it’s through the comfort of a cozy nook with a book, the gentle movement of a yoga ball, or the focus brought by colouring and calming games, every element is thoughtfully chosen to promote emotional regulation, self-expression, and healing. For youth navigating difficult experiences or seeking a moment of calm, the Sensory Room provides a judgment-free space to breathe, reconnect with themselves, and build resilience in a supportive setting.
