Code of conduct – Parents/Guardians Purpose: To ensure SGAC remains a safe and positive environment for all. To maintain a high standard of behaviours amongst parents/guardians, which supports a positive gymnastics & swimming environment. Policy: Supporting your child • Focus on your child’s individual effort, performance output, and progress, rather than winning or losing. Remembering all children progress at a different rate. • Show appreciation for good performance by all participants, including those from other clubs. • Never ridicule or yell at your child or any other individual. • Be enthusiastic, but do not engage in sideline coaching from the grandstand or poolside. • I will inform SGAC Customer Service of any injuries or disabilities that may affect the safety of your child or safety of others. Respect for teachers, coaches, officials, and others • Treat all persons with respect and courtesy regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background, or religion. This includes SGAC staff, athletes, other members, and guests. • Respect and accept the decision of coaches, teachers & officials – they are human and can make mistakes. Teach your children to do the same. • At all times be respectful in your communication in-person and/or online to all SGAC members & guests. Deal with any issues in a controlled and professional manner. Your words and actions are noticed, especially by those under 18. • Be proud of SGAC and promote it positively. Viewing of Training and Competitions ➢ Parents are not permitted in the downstairs gymnastics area or gym halls unless requested by a coach or participating in the Kinder Gym program, satisfying our Child Friendly, Child Safety Policy ➢ If you notice any behaviour or hazards which could potentially harm or endanger someone, please report to SGAC Customer Service What to do if you have questions or concerns • Should you wish to speak about your child’s swimming progress, please speak directly to an Aquatics Supervisor on deck. • Should you wish to speak about your child’s gymnastics progress, please book an appropriate time with the Team Leader. Please speak to SGAC Customer Service to arrange the appointment or email your request to customerservice@sgac.com.au. • For any issues that need urgent attention, contact SGAC Customer Service, or if Aquatics related, an Aquatics Supervisor, to assist immediately or pass on to the relevant team leader to address. • Maintain confidentiality regarding any issues raised and do not gossip or complain to other parents. • SGAC management will be responsible for the handling and mediation of all grievances. Under no circumstance should parents/athletes approach other parents/athletes in the attempt to resolve any grievances they may have. This includes any contact via social media or any other medium. Any behaviour not in line with the code of conduct may result in suspension, demotion, or cancellation of the participant/athlete SGAC membership.
