EXEC CHAIR’S WELCOME

Welcome to Seddon Fields for a very special day. We have partnered up with Chatterbox to help raise the awareness of Mental Health. There are lots of fun activities for the kids to get involved in to help raise some money towards this important subject.

Of course, we have exciting National League doubleheader!

Welcome to Cashmere Technical for our Men’s Premier National League match and to Central Football for our Women’s game.

Our Men’s team had a win for the ages last week, coming from behind to best Auckland City on their ground. It was an amazing moment as Patrick Tobin got on the end of Emi Tade’s cross and then celebrated with the Springs fans behind the goal. With 3 games left to reach the top 2 and make the grand final, there is all to play for.

Today is the last time we’ll see our talented Women’s team at Seddon with our final two games away. 2024 has been another amazing year for women’s football at Springs and we have loved watching our Prems and Girls team in action. Good luck for the final 3 games.

Many thanks of course to our staff and volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to provide a great club environment throughout the season and for their continued efforts in the remainder of the year.

Ongoing gratitude also to our life members who are the history and foundation of the Club we are today. To our 2024 sponsors, we thank you for your support and we look forward to working together during this exciting National League phase.

Grant Ramsay, Executive Board Chair

MENTAL WHAT IS

We all have moments when life feels energized and fulfilling, but also times when it’s more challenging—this is simply part of being human. Maintaining mental resilience is essential, and having tools to navigate tough times helps.

What is Mental Wellbeing?

It’s the ability to realize our potential, cope with life’s normal stresses, work productively, and contribute to our community, family, and friends.

Spotting Signs Someone May Be Struggling

Not everyone shows visible signs, but here are a few clues to look for:

Low energy

Tearfulness, or overwhelmed reactions

Withdrawal from social activities

Loss of interest in favorite pastimes

Changes in routine or unusual clumsiness

Self-critical talk or substance reliance

If you notice these signs, offer your support. Start with a simple, honest conversation and be patient. Just being there can make a difference.

How You Can Help

Be Present – Give your full attention in a calm space. 1. Let Them Open Up – Allow them to share at their own pace. 2. Encourage Self-Care – Suggest healthy habits like exercise, good sleep, and nutrition. 3. Listen and Reflect – Show empathy by echoing their words to ensure understanding. 4. Offer Practical Support – Help them find professional resources, if needed. 5.

Where to Get Help

Helpline: Call or text 1737 (available 24/7)

Lifeline: 0800 543 354 or text HELP to 4357

Youthline: 0800 376 633 or text 234

Self-Care Tips to Boost Wellbeing

Get Quality Sleep: Aim for 7–9 hours nightly. Stay Active: Exercise releases “feel-good” hormones. Plan Joyful Moments: Having something to look forward to can improve your outlook. Connect and Chat: Talking with someone you trust can be a relief.

WSAFC’s Mental Wellbeing Initiatives

This year, WSAFC is committed to supporting mental wellness. We’re excited to partner with Chatterbox to foster more open conversations about mental health in our community. Chatterbox, born right here in Pt Chev, brings strong local ties and a deep commitment to reducing the stigma around mental health.

Additionally, Sports Chaplaincy will be on hand to support players and coaches, with our Evergreen program relaunching in 2025 to support young players. We’ll also introduce “The Chatter Club”, offering a safe space for everyone to come together and connect. Mental strength is as crucial as physical fitness in football and life. Let’s make talking about mental health part of our community culture.

Fundraising for a Chatterbox Seat

Help us raise funds for a Chatterbox Seat here at WSAFC—a dedicated place to chat and a visible reminder that it’s okay to talk. Together, we can create spaces where everyone feels supported.
