ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

Western New England University was established in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1919. The goal of the University’s founders was and remains to provide outstanding academic programs with a professional focus that prepares our graduates to become leaders in their fields and in their communities. Western New England University is now ranked among National Universities by U.S. News and World Report in its “Best National Universities 2022” and among the Top 100 Undergraduate Engineering programs. The University is also recognized as a Doctoral/Professional University from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

Small class sizes make a big difference in helping students to connect with professors and classmates. An undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1 provides a more personal university experience to help students excel. The University’s acclaimed First Year Program engages upper-class student and faculty mentors to help new students successfully transition to University life. Graduate students are supported and guided through the Center for Graduate and Advanced Studies and in professional programs.

FACILITIES

• The main campus has expanded from its original 34 acres to its current 215 acres.

• The campus contains 28 major buildings and numerous athletic and recreational fields, including Golden Bear Stadium.

• Residence halls feature traditional dormitories as well as suites, townhouses, and apartments.

• The D’Amour Library provides access to more than 163,000 print volumes and digital books, journals, and media. The Law Library has more than 361,000 volumes and current digital collections.

• The University’s Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center is a 123,000-squarefoot athletic and physical fitness complex.

• The University has been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges since 1972.

• The College of Business has been accredited by AACSB International — The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business since 2004.

• The College of Engineering: the Biomedical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering undergraduate programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET, www.abet.org.

• The School of Law has been accredited by the American Bar Association since 1978.

• The Doctor of Pharmacy program of the College of Pharmacy is accredited by the ACPE.

• Education programs are approved by the Massachusetts Board of Education.

• The PhD in Behavior Analysis program has been accredited by the Association of Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) since 2014.

Western New England University has been ranked in the top 3% of colleges and universities among the top 1,275 public and private institutions reviewed in the United States by The Economist magazine. The rankings analyzed which institutions offered the “best value” for the education received. In a survey of the Class of 2021, 98% were employed or offered employment, or were accepted to graduate school within six months of graduation. Today, more than 90% of undergraduates and law students receive some form of financial aid. A generous undergraduate Merit Scholarship program offers a “bottom line” tuition comparable with many public universities. 96% of freshmen receive some form of financial aid

In our most recent survey of the Class of 2021, 98% of seniors reported post-graduation employment or were pursuing graduate school.

The WNE PharmD Class of 2021 earned a high first-time pass rate (91.5%) on the NAPLEX Exam, greater than the national average (83.6%). This marks our fourth consecutive year of having a pass rate greater than 90%, making WNE one of only three programs in the northeast to achieve these results.
