Hello dear reader, Welcome to the new issue of the CatTales Catzine. We are very happy to see you all reading the CatZine and we are very gratefull.

Putting this magazine together is quite a time consuming job and it is great to hear the positive words and see you all join in on our contests and on our new section: Proud Breeding. Which has been booming this past few months.

With this December issue we close of the year 2023! We thank you all for the amazing support you all have given us this year and look forward to another year of great fun and laughter in 2024.

Meet the staff:

Sarah Starlight

Every issue we get to know the staff of CatTales a little better. This issue we meet up with Sarah! She is going to take us through some of her moments as a KittyCats! Breeder but also as a CatTales Auctioneer! Keep reading to find out more about her!

A little bit about Sarah.

Sarah: Hello! I have been in SL for 13 and a half years (that's nuts!). Aside from breeding KittyCats! and auctioneering on the wonderful CatTales sim, I also love to DJ, socialise and shop, although these days with rl work it's mostly cats lol! I am pretty much an open book and most patrons know I love a good story if they have been to my auctions, I use my real first name on SL, although I was known as Shorty for a very long time! I am also really chaotic haha! I am Irish born and bred but now live in Scotland :) Sarah's First KittyCat Sarah: My first kittycat was a Bengal Tawny girl called Fleabag I bought just over 5 years ago (what I thought was a him at a shop) and didn't have a clue what I was doing!

I then realised that the thing needed to eat and found the kittycats store. I bought a couple of starters and some food, quickly realised they were going to be cost me a fortune and stopped again! It was my SL sister Ana that introduced me back to them again and I met the lovely Lexi during lockdown at her auction and that was the start of the addiction *facepalms* 06

What does Sarah enjoy most about KittyCatS!?

Sarah: I love playing around with traits and building kitties that are matchy and solid. I especially love the older retired traits. I think though what I love most is the community, since breeding properly I have made so many new friends and connections, and that's what keeps me going as an auctioneer. I love people as much as I love cats!

Sarah: Yes I have three cats, who regularly disrupt auctions lol! Charlie a fluffy snorer, Bonnie my satanic girl and Big Steve who is just the most chilled out cat ever... until it's breakfast time lol

If you could invent a new trait, what would it be?

Sarah: Definitely a rainbow whisker! There are so many rainbow eyes now it would be awesome to have whiskers to match What tip would you give to someone just starting out with KittyCatS! Sarah: First check out the info hub on the CatTales sim, I always say what a great resource it is, secondly ask questions don't be shy and third make sure you have at least one other stream of income LOL! Kittycats should be bred for love not money it's a hobby after all!

Be honest, how many breeding pairs do you have?

Sarah: 35 pairs right now I try to stick to this but I also have about 20 perma pets running around my sim lol

Most memorable moment at auction: Sarah: Oh gosh so many!

Dressing up with Wendy as teddy bears for Chaos, and having her and Sister as co-auctioneers in general it's always great fun! Can't forget the several patrons who have snored with their mics open *giggles* Future KittyCatS! Goals: Sarah: To be honest I take KittyCats like my real life, one day at a time and see what happens!

The Ocicat Lavender is the first Fur discovered after all the beginning traits. Can you believe it is already in the background for about 12 years now? This fur is a great piece of KittyCatS! history!

It is a great cat to combine to your new starter or collection kitties, because your retired fur will let you know if the hidden fur is a fur that is more recessive if it shows up on your new born kitten. That is because retired traits can not come from your starter cats! And also... The fur and the markings look very beautiful and realistic. ~Wendy Coba-Calabrese

Grandma Moses’ Gingerbread For many of us, the Christmas holiday demands a single spice above all others: Ginger.

A perennial plant native to tropical rainforests from India, China and Southern Asia, ginger’s incredibly pungent and aromatic rhizome (underground stem) has been used for flavoring, food, spiritual ceremonies and medicine for more than 5,000 years. India and China are the biggest producers today and ginger is available in powdered, dried and candied forms, as well as fresh rhizomes that look something like a human hand.

Trolley’s mama didn't get her ginger from the Piggly Wiggly grocery store. She grew her own rhizomes in her flowerbeds, since the plant is evergreen in frostfree climates and produces colorful flowers year after year. Trolley and cousin Bubba got the job of digging, cleaning and drying the roots their mama used to make ginger cakes, cookies, candied ginger.

Gingerbread was their favorite. Big slabs fresh from the oven greeted the Butta clan on Christmas morning and slowed down children intent on demolishing the gift wrapping of presents tucked under the family’s Christmas tree.

Few things can divert a child from presents! THIS gingerbread can. It was the specialty of the self-taught American folk artist known as Grandma Moses’ who first took up a paintbrush in her early-70s and became a household word through her artwork that graced the covers of magazines and attracted the attention of art critics (and collectors) from around the world.

Like her paintings, Grandma Moses’ gingerbread is snapped up faster than the family dog snatches up the crumbs left on the plate. Enjoy it hot from the oven if you can’t bear to let it cool. If there are leftovers toast slices and enjoy with hot cocoa or transform it into a wicked-good bread pudding.

GRANDMA MOSES’ GINGERBREAD 1 cup sugar 2 Tablespoons molasses (sorghum molasses is especially good) 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature (or 2 Tablespoons butter and 2 Tablespoons fresh lard to be true to the original recipe!)

1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon ½ teaspoon Pinch 2 cups 1 large 1 cup

baking soda ground ginger ground cloves kosher salt unbleached all-purpose flour egg, lightly beaten sour cream, room temperature

Preheat oven to 350F (315F for convection oven).

Sift or whisk the dry ingredients together in a bowl. In a separate bowl cream the fat, either by hand or using a mixer. Cream well.

Gradually add the sugar and cream together. The sugar will not completely be absorbed by the fat, since the quantity of fat is small relative to the sugar. Cream for about five minutes using an electric mixer and you’ll be fine. Add sour cream and egg and mix together well. Add dry ingredients; beat ingredients together until well-combined. The batter will be very thick, resembling quick bread batter rather than most cake batters.

Spread into a buttered 9-inch pan. Use an offset spatula to even the top, making sure the batter gets into the corners of the pan.

Bake on the middle rack of the oven 30 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted into the middle of the pan comes out clean.

Let cool on a rack.
