Matters Arising View from the Chair As we look to 2012, some things never seem to change! The lights go up in the village, the decorations in the shops and the streets, everyone in a festive mood. Thanks to Wendover Chamber of Trade and Commerce and Jill from the Clock Tower for organising a wonderful late night shopping evening on 7 December. Congratulations to Lets Rent for their winning shop window. Congratulations also to the runners up and, in fact, all the entrants. Our target next year is to get ALL shops to enter. Another idea for 2012 is that we encourage other competitions throughout the Parish. How about best garden, best citizen in different categories (Senior and Junior), best village organisation, best employee in the village. We could have an awards ceremony at the 2012 late night shopping event. Any other ideas for competitions to the Clock Tower marked for the attention of Councillor Walsh. Christmas comes and goes and we are now looking forward to 2012. Others make reference to W endover Celebrates. I would also like to plug this event which takes place at the beginning of June. A lot of people are already working hard to ensure it is a success. If you want to volunteer in any capacity contact Wendover Celebrates through their website or via the Clock Tower.

Finally I would like to thank the Councillors and staff of Wendover Parish Council. Councillors are unpaid and commit a lot of their personal time to ensuring that things move forward in the interest of the people of Wendover. Sometimes things don't work out and projects don't get off the ground as quickly as others but by sheer perseverance we are getting there. Special thanks to Jill Bottomley and all staff for all the hard work and unseen effort that ensures that things are being steered in the right direction. The Parish Council would like to thank Jane Larkham, editor of the Wendover News, for her generosity and support in getting ‘Matters Arising’ off the ground.

Christmas Lights We have a new system of lights for the Clock Tower this year as the old ones were failing and there was concern about possible damage to the building by the old heavy frames. This is our first year with the new system. It is much cheaper and easier to change than before and improvements can be made as we go along. The white light theme will be kept and we hope to upgrade the lights for the Christmas tree next year.
