Pitches and Pavilions Investment The City of Edinburgh Council is set to invest approximately £1.7M in pitches and pavilions across Edinburgh in 2010. The first project to get underway will be the new seven aside third generation (3G) synthetic pitch to be built at Lochend Park. This project was made possible through an arrangement with the Council’s Health & Social Care Department to build a care home on the former pitch used by Lochend Youth Football Club. LYFC and the Council have been working in partnership for a couple of years to develop the plans, which have now come to fruition and work is set to start on site early in the New Year. Planning is also underway for a new third generation pitch at Meggetland Sports Complex. The Council have appointed Sports Labs Ltd to develop the design of the new pitch and manage the project through to completion. The new pitch will be built on the current grass floodlit football pitch at Meggetland and will be designed to allow rugby training as well as football training and matches. Work is scheduled to start around July/August 2010. The final project planned for 2010 is a new six room changing pavilion at Colinton Mains Park. The new pavilion will compliment the three full-size and three seven aside pitches recently constructed and will result in the park being one of the best

The Council’s Property Services have been developing the design of the new pavilion over the last few months and we have consulted the local football club and community council on the detail of the design. Some ideas of how your club could get involved include: • Open up a normal coaching session to the public • Include an event or game you already have planned during this period • Organise your own mini festival/event and invite other clubs to participate • Have a club open day • We are hoping to greatly increase the public awareness of the event this year and some of the proposed media ideas include: • Programmes distributed to all Edinburgh school children, leisure centres, libraries, doctors surgeries etc • Production and distribution of A1 posters to key sites • Promotional DVD
