RECAP OF CHAPTER 89: After sending a panicky fax to Hans Kafnika that he should come help them immediately, Katarina and Teresa go out to try to help Josef, even though they don’t have real weapons on them. At home, Helena notices a suspicious van approaching the estate, and armed men dressed as workers piling out of it. Deep inside, she knows the game is up. Sol continues to try to restrain Binyamin, but suddenly David Elkovitz appears. As David yells at Sol to stop siding with the Wangels, the Hanters suddenly appear and tell everyone that everything Binyamin has been telling them is true, and that they are here to rescue them.
Josef Wangel tries to grab away the gun from Binyamin. In response, Binyamin pulls the trigger.
A few lines written in blue ink on the foundation beam on the back wall of one of the huts:
May 26, 1945
We are a group of Jews who were brought here to establish a military and economic hideout for Wehrmacht soldiers, in the event that the Reich collapses. From here, Wehrmacht brigades will set out for guerilla battles against the Allies if they will capture Austria and the region. Those in charge of us are Major Ludwig Heidrich and Major Klaus Wangel, who were under the command of Lieutenant Samson Plavel. He was killed in battles outside, and now the two Majors are directly in charge of us. We are building huts to live in, and a factory for processing furs, managed by the brothers Max and Leo Sherer. They are also fixing and building the old wall and renovating the old manor house.
There is much work to be done, and it is hard, while the food is meager, but we are being treated fairly. But if we do not remain alive, if we do not survive the war—then please, take revenge for us!
Iszak Zuretzky, hiding in the small space on the sloping ground beneath the hut, ran his finger over the words. He didn’t have the patience to try reading them, and he sufficed with the beginning and the end of the inscription. Somewhere outside, he could still hear Bernard hollering as he slowly made his way behind the huts to find him, and Iszak feared that he was coming closer. “Please, take revenge for us,” he murmured, and clasped his arms around his head.
Was there a chance that Bernard would not find him? Not really. Bernard was in such a furious state that he was not even going to help his father. He just wanted to take revenge on whoever had tripped him—in other words, Iszak. Too bad Iszak didn’t

have another long branch there to trip up that cursed Nazi again. But at least he had held him back from killing Binyamin! Happiness and warmth spread through Iszak’s heart. He had no idea where the apology note he had written was. It must have fallen somewhere on the path near where Bernard had tripped, but maybe Binyamin would still be able to run away, and he would find it.
And if he would do that, would he know that Iszak Zuretzky had been the one to save him?
From afar, he saw Bernard’s boots coming closer, with a limping gait. The Nazi was cursing all the Jews through the generations, at the top of his lungs, and bending down to check under each and every hut. As Iszak watched, Bernard also opened the back window of each house and peered inside.
He was almost upon Iszak, bending down to the ground to check if anyone was there. “You!” he howled as soon as he saw the youth, and he stuck his gun into the small, dark cavity.
But a second later, a dull noise was heard, and the gun fell from his hand.
“What was that?” Iszak asked quietly, not daring to move. “Now it wasn’t me!” He quickly buried his head in his arms again, his face to the ground, remaining motionless. Only after a few long moments did he raise his head, banging it into the floor of the hut above him. He gaped at a pale hand that was reaching toward him.
“Do you need help to get out? Are you hurt?” someone asked in German, but with a strange accent. Iszak didn’t know what to answer. Instead, he groaned and crawled out, only to discover Bernard lying motionless just a few steps away. The pale hand belonged to an unfamiliar person who was holding a gun. “Where are the others?” the man asked him directly. “You are a Yid, yes?”
“I…” Iszak didn’t know what to answer. This man was a complete stranger, and it was very possible that he was dangerous. But he had just saved him! “I… Yes, I’m a Yid. Where the others are…?” He stood up and shook out his hands,
walking a few feet off. “They…are working in the factory, and in other places. I think that…some of them went to try and save Binyamin from Hauptmann Josef.”
“Hauptmann Josef,” the man repeated. “And where is he now, do you think?”
“Why should I tell you? I don’t even know who you are.”
“Nice to meet you. My name is Boaz, and I’m from Israel.”
“From where?”
“From Eretz Yisrael.”
“Eretz Yisrael?! The Nazis didn’t kill you?”
“No, and we’ll talk about that later. Tell me, how many gentiles are here aside from this Josef whom you mentioned, and this neo-Nazi, who won’t hurt anyone anymore?” His eyes flitted in all the direction as he spoke.
“Um…” Iszak turned his eyes toward the manor house. He was still rather confused. “There is Hauptmann Katarina, Josef’s wife. But maybe she also left the house.”
“And she has a weapon?”
“I don’t know… Yes, I think she does. And I think that Gefreiter Helena and…um…Gefreiter Teresa also have guns.”
“And is that it?” The stranger’s face broke into an incredulous smile.
“There are also commanders from the Wehrmacht who sometimes come,” Iszak replied. “Maybe they will come today or tomorrow, because of the mess Binyamin made when he spoke on the twoway radio. But I don’t think they are here now.”
Boaz nodded. “Who is the most dangerous?”
“Bernard is the scariest—he’s the one you just shot. But maybe his father is the most dangerous; that’s Josef. He was just running toward the kennels, following Binyamin.” He pointed southward. “How did you get here?”
“I got here.” Boaz strode quickly in the direction that the youth had pointed him to. “And on the way, I heard this creature hollering, so I came to see who he was running after.”
“What…what did I do to him?” Binyamin’s hand was still trembling.

The gun he was holding was hot, and it was emitting the acrid odor of gunpowder.
Mottel Kush herded away the children who had gathered there, and in an authoritative voice, instructed them to wait near the sheep pen until they would be called. Most of them—stunned and frightened—obeyed. Sol ran toward the Nazi worriedly. People scattered every which way, perhaps afraid they’d be accused and punished.
“It’s his shoulder,” David Elkovitz said as he looked at Josef Wangel leaning against one of the trees. The man’s eyes were smoldering with fury, as blood spurted from the top part of one sleeve. With the other hand, he pushed Sol Sherer away so roughly that Sol lost his balance and almost fell.
“Leave me alone, you swine!” he screamed. “Don’t touch me with your contaminated hands!”
There was a babble of voices, and the singing of those standing on the wall faded out for a few seconds. With joint efforts, they moved a long ladder to the inner side of the wall, setting its feet down in the cemetery. One of the men swung his legs over the wall and descended. He approached the group, and people stared at him as if he were a bearskin laid out to dry that had suddenly emitted a deafening roar. “Teiyere brieder, don’t be afraid— we are also Yidden!” he said loudly, taking off his peaked cap. Two curled peyos fell down to frame his face. “Binyamin, finally, we get to meet! I’m Bentzy Hanter—I’m sure you figured that out by now. Who is the injured person there, the Nazi?”
“One of them,” Binyamin said quickly. “Bentzy, thank you so much for coming.” He turned around and looked at Wangel, who was leaning on the tree, white-faced. Sol stood a few steps away, speaking to him in a low tone, but Josef ignored him. Josef glanced around and cried hoarsely, “You will yet pay!” Then he stumbled away, grasping his shoulder the entire time. Sol and two more men followed him, without glancing at the large group of people that remained behind. “Don’t let him get away!” Binyamin shouted. “He will call Bernard and the women!”
“Bernard? He won’t be going anywhere anymore,” someone unfamiliar interjected, appearing on the path leading from the residential huts. He was also dressed in overalls, like Bentzy. Iszak Zuretsky ran behind him, looking more confused than he ever had.
“Boaz!” Bentzy Hanter cried, waving his hand. “Where is Shmulik?”
“Scanning the other side; he should be coming from there any minute,” Boaz said. He stopped in front of the man in the Wehrmacht uniform who was hobbling toward him.
“Good afternoon,” he said politely. “Can I help you?”
Josef raised his eyes to Boaz. “Who are you?”
“Me? I’m a Jew who came to see who needs help in this place.”
“A Jew?”
“A proud one.”
Josef spat. “Move out of my way,” he growled hoarsely. “I don’t want help from you.”
“I can administer first aid, sir, and every minute you are losing more and more blood.”
“I prefer to die! To die! To die!!!” The Nazi suddenly raised his voice in a shriek. “And no Jew should dare touch me! Not to do good or bad!” People began to inch closer. Sol pleaded that Dr. Katzburg should be called, but Josef didn’t even look at him.
“Mrs. Einhorn!” Sol raised his voice. “Do you have bandages? Something to stop the bleeding? Bring something quickly, because we’re going to suffer badly if he is harmed!”
“He’s already been harmed,” someone said behind them.
Babbe Sarah Liba approached slowly, but the Nazi waved his hand wildly, and she stopped where she was. Boaz walked behind the Nazi, wondering what to do, as a whole group of Jews studied them. From the direction of the preschool, they could hear the children singing Birchas Hamazon in unison.
After taking a few more steps, Josef sat down on a rock at the side of the path. Sol bent toward him, and was met with a ringing slap on the face from the Nazi.
People were talking loudly, discussing what to do now. Two
wanted to run and call Rabbi Schwartzbrod. Others hurried toward the wall to help the people behind it come down into the camp, as another stranger came from the direction of the residences. Pinchas, one of the older workers in the factory, was walking next to him.
“Shmulik, how is it going?” Bentzy asked.
“Great, baruch Hashem. Who else is left besides him?”
The new person looked in Josef’s direction.
“Looks like three female Nazis, one older and two younger.”
“I found two of them,” Shmulik said. “It was easy. They are there.” He nodded with his head toward the huts.
“Katarina and Teresa,” Pinchas said, trembling a bit. “I was just leaving the bakery, and I saw them running here. They were talking about the preschool and how they could get inside, or something like that… But then,” he said breathlessly, “this man came from behind and called on them to drop their weapons. It was…very simple. They listened right away. And we locked them in the Kushes’ hut. The young couple.”
“It’s the only hut with locks on both windows—that’s why I chose it,” Shmulik explained to Bentzy. “All the other huts in the area have open windows.”
Binyamin spoke up. “There’s one more,” he said weakly. He felt his pulse thudding forcefully in his temples. Was it from shock? Excitement? Hunger? All of the above?
“It’s Helena,” Babbe said from behind him. “And she’s the biggest coward of them all. She’s probably hiding at the manor house in some locked room. It won’t be hard to get her to surrender.”
“And now we have another gun—I took it from the young Nazi,” Boaz announced. “Great! Okay, who is coming with us to find her?”
Zeide Nachum suddenly appeared. “We’d be so grateful if you could start at the manor house. Our daughter works in the kitchen there, with her children.” His voice shook a bit. “Please…if you could get her out of there as fast as possible… She’s had some very difficult days, and still, she reported to her job regularly so as not to get them any angrier…”
“Shmulik and Boaz, take a few of our people and go over there, okay?” an older man with a gray beard said as he joined the cluster. He held his hand out to Binyamin with a big smile. “I imagine you are Schvirtz,” he said.
“Yes. And you are the senior Mr. Hanter?”
“I am,” Bentzy’s father said warmly. He studied the people around him with a loving expression. “Shalom aleichem, Yiddishe brieder. I am Moshe Hanter, and we are all so happy to meet you. Baruch Hashem!”
The people came closer to him; the circle grew tighter. Handshakes were exchanged, and hesitant smiles began to break out on people’s faces.
Like the sun breaking over the horizon after a night as long as the galus.
It is a predicament only those who have experienced it can truly understand.
Caring for an adult child with special needs challenges is a 24-hour commitment that leaves families stretched thin. While the love never wavers, the responsibilities are relentless and quickly become overwhelming.
A new program called Daybreak is aiming to provide both relief for these families and comprehensive care for the adults themselves.
Daybreak is a full-day program designed specifically for adults with developmental and physical challenges. Participants are picked up early in the morning and return home late in the evening. In between, they are engaged in developmental activities, exciting social programming, and personal care that covers all their daily living needs.
“We realized there is a significant gap that no one has addressed in the community,” said Lazer, who oversees the program. “Especially in large families, parents simply can’t give them the attention they need, causing a ripple effect in the home. That’s why we established Daybreak. The early results couldn’t be better!”
The schedule at Daybreak includes everything from hands-on activities, to music, exercise, and life-skills workshops, along with meals, appointments and the like. Staff members are trained to work with a range of abilities, ensuring that each participant is safe, cared for and meaningfully engaged.
Families of special needs adults welcome Daybreak, the program that takes care of them all day, every day.
For families, the benefit is immediate and immense. With their loved one at Daybreak during the day, parents and siblings can attend to jobs, appointments, and other life responsibilities without constant worry. “It gives us breathing room,” said one parent. “We know our son is in good hands and enjoying himself, which lets us focus on the rest of life.”
The program’s name was chosen with intention. Just as daybreak marks a fresh start to the morning, the program offers a fresh sense of relief and possibility for participants and families alike.
Indeed, the program is going way beyond where anyone has gone before. Not only is it full day, but there are options for both six and seven day weeks. And the days are filled with activities, while the staff caters to the individuals’ every need. It’s all Daybreak, all the time.
Daybreak is currently accepting new participants and encourages families to see the program in action. “Our goal is to lift the weight off families’ shoulders while giving adults with special needs the dignity, care, and stimulation they deserve,” said (same name as above).

Chavi,* is an 8-year-old girl who was admitted to the hospital following a severe and painful injury from a car accident requiring extensive medical procedures. After discharge, Chavi started having nightmares about the experience and often became upset or anxious when seeing or hearing things that reminded her of the hospital or injury. This included symptoms like re-experiencing the injury in play, increased irritability, sleep problems, and fear of being alone: common signs of medical traumatic stress (MTS)in children.
Medical traumatic stress refers to the physical and emotional responses of children to pain, injury, serious illness, medical procedures, and hospitalization. A child’s emotional response can be impacted by constant contact with the medical team, often frightening interventions, medical equipment that looks and sounds scary, and physical pain during and after a procedure or treatment.
While some children manage to ‘bounce back’ from a traumatic event, a significant subset of children are not able to adapt leading to traumatic stress symptoms interfering with the child’s ability to participate in daily activities, concentrate in school, and keeping up with friends. Hopefully, with early assessment and intervention such as trauma-focused medical play, the child’s symptoms can improve significantly and allow better quality of life.
‘Traumatic’ play’ is a typical behavior exhibited by young children after experiencing trauma. The opportunity to process medical trauma through play with a supportive clinician allows a child to communicate their story, express feelings, gain control, and rewrite the ending of their story. Through trauma-focused medical play, the child can find a place of safety and meaning while promoting resiliency for future medical experiences, encourage control, and provide opportunities for growth.

RECAP: Rivky is found but refuses to admit she did something wrong by going into the woods.
Malky schlepped the highchair out the screen door, plunked Leiby down into it, and sprinkled some cheerios onto the tray. Leiby scooped one up and stuffed it into his mouth. Ruchie skipped down the steps from the porch onto the grass below and plopped down next to the other kids there. Malky scanned the group, searching for Rivky among them. Then she looked again, sure her eyes were playing tricks on her. But no, Rivky was actually not there.
She cupped her hands over her mouth and called out “RIVKY!” A few kids turned their heads, but Rivky did not appear. Malky was not amused. After the drama the night before, she did not need anything even remotely exciting going on today. She just wanted a plain, boring, ordinary day.
She peered left, then right, but she did not see any other kids on the horizon, just a group of ladies sitting in a circle a few houses down. She approached them and asked if anyone had seen Rivky. “Is she lost?” one lady asked.
A thorough search of the house yielded no results. Rivky was not there.
Malky sat down at the table and put her head in her hands. “She can’t be lost again!”
on their teeth, she made sure of that. Finishing up her makeup, she grabbed her lunch from the fridge and was out the door.
The door banged open, and Rivky flew in, blonde pony swinging. Trailing behind her was sweet little Tzippy.
“Mommy! Look what I made at Tzippy’s house! She has such fun projects!”
Malky’s voice was sharp. “Rivky! You were at Tzippy’s house? Why didn’t you tell me where you were going?”
Rivky looked confused. “We were playing outside and then it was boring so we decided to go in and do projects.”
“Rivky, you always need to tell me where you are going first. That way I know where to find you.”
“But I was just by Tzippy’s house!” Rivky protested. “It’s not a dangerous place!”
“You always need to tell me where you are going whenever you go somewhere. I need to know where you are,” Malky repeated.
“Why do I need to tell you? Why can’t I go places myself?” Rivky’s nostrils flared as she spoke. “I’m not gonna listen! It’s silly!”
“If you don’t listen, you will, um…” Malky trailed off, trying to think of an appropriate consequence. “You will have to stay inside for a full day. You won’t be able to go outside at all.”
“You won’t be able to make me! I’ll just run out when you’re not looking.”
A soft breeze, rare for the end of August, was blowing, caressing her cheeks. She was really lucky, she mused, smiling to herself. She had a wonderful family, husband, children, and grandchildren. Rivky was found and returned safe and sound. Esti had just shared good news with her. She had amazing friends with whom she enjoyed spending time. She was beginning a new chessed project next week with a dear friend. That would hopefully fill up much of her spare time, aside from her job as a saleslady in the local baby paraphernalia store, which she loved and excelled at. After working there for close to two full decades, the job fit her like a custommade garment.
It was a good thing she had been doing this for so long, because she was completely operating on automatic.
Malky sighed. Why couldn’t Rivky just accept rules easily? Why did it have to be a whole argument every time she tried to enforce something?
“Rivky, you must always tell me where you are going, or else you will get a big punishment. End of story. Nothing else to discuss.” Then, to fend off any further arguing, she quickly changed the subject. “Want to show me those projects you made?”
Zeesy hummed to herself as she carefully applied her makeup, then checked her teeth. She would not be one of those old ladies who walked around with lipstick
Indeed, she truly had what to be grateful for, she wrapped up her thoughts as she strode briskly into Babies ‘n More.
“Good morning, Suri! Good morning, Leah!” she greeted her coworkers. Suri returned her own cheerful good morning, but Leah looked uncomfortable as she mumbled a reply with a slightly flushed face. She puzzled over it for a few seconds before getting caught up in her daily routine.
“Zeesy? I’d like to speak with you in the back office when you have a minute,” the boss, Miriam Handler, poked her head into the store’s main room to relay the message.
“Uh, sure. I can come now,” Zeesy replied, overcome with curiosity. She smoothed down her skirt and flicked off a small piece of lint on her way. As comfortable as she was here, a meeting with the boss still elicited the tiniest bubble of apprehension.
“So, we really appreciate your work here,” Miriam began. “You are truly a dedicated employee. However, we are…” she paused and looks down for a moment, the awkward silence punctuated only by snippets of conversation drifting in from the main store, “uh, we are making some changes, uh, in a few areas, and one of them is staff. Bottom line, we will not be requiring your services going forward.” The line sounded rehearsed, like she had written it out beforehand and practiced in front of a mirror.
Zeesy’s blood froze in her veins. She tried to act as

nonchalant as her boss was, but it wasn’t fair. Her boss had had ample time to consider the idea, while Zeesy was in absolute shock. Besides, it was her life just twisted out of place, yanked from its steady routine solidified through years of repetition. Her brain still hadn’t fully comprehended the words her ears had faithfully transmitted. Did her boss actually just fire her? After years of dedication, loyalty, getting the job done well? Was this some sort of joke? But no, Miriam wore a serious expression, and besides, this wasn’t a color war breakout at camp.
Taking a deep breath in an attempt to collect herself, she wondered what to respond. If she would be choosing to leave, she would doubtless include some nice lines about how much she had enjoyed working here, how she would miss it, and how she had appreciated the wonderful boss and pleasant coworkers. But that all seemed out of place in this context. She settled with a generic “okay”, even though Miriam had obviously not been waiting for her approval of her decision, and she was obviously not okay with it. She wasn’t about to start fighting for her job back, as much as she disagreed with it.
The phone on Miriam’s desk rang, and she nodded at Zeesy to indicate the meeting was over before reaching over to answer. Zeesy stumbled back into the main room and was assaulted by an anxious customer desperate for a specific brand of pacifiers for her baby.
“Do you sell it? Please tell me you do, we lost his paci last night and we haven’t been functioning since. He refused to take any other paci, and he’s so difficult to handle without a paci to calm him.”
Zeesy directed the customer to the correct shelf, where multiple boxes of the specified pacifiers were sitting, and then rang up the relieved mother’s purchase. It was a good thing she had been doing this for so long, because she was completely operating on automatic.
A minute later, with no new customers demanding her attention right then, she slipped out of the store, mumbling something about taking an early lunch break.
She strode briskly along the avenue, no destination in mind, one thought whirling on repeat. Had she really just been fired from her job?

These gooey chocolate treats are a quick (last-minute!) dessert the whole family will love. Make them as cookies or mini muffins—whichever you prefer!
Ingredients
Ostreicher’s frozen chocolate chip cookies
Peanut butter, Lotus butter, hazelnut spread or mini marshmallows
Dolce truffle balls or any other chocolate of your choice
Vanilla ice cream and toppings for serving
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 325°.
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (if you’re making cookies) or grease cupcake tins with cooking spray (if you’re doing muffins).
3. Let the frozen cookies defrost until soft enough to work with.
4. Using gloved hands, flatten one cookie in your palm. Add peanut butter, Lotus butter, hazelnut spread and/or mini marshmallows, then top with a truffle ball or piece of chocolate.
5. Top the chocolate with a second defrosted cookie. Pinch the sides to seal and roll into a large ball. Place the cookie onto the lined baking sheet (for cookies) or place directly into greased cupcake tins (for muffins).
6. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden around the edges.
To Serve: Keep in a warm oven (lowest heat setting), warming drawer, or on a hot plate until dessert. Serve warm with a scoop of cold ice cream and your favorite toppings.
Pretty, practical, and delicious—these cherry pie upside down cakes are the ultimate crowd-pleaser you’ll want to bake again and again.
Yields: 12 muffins
Ingredients
1 stick margarine
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 cup flour
1 can cherry pie filling
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line muffin tins with 12 large muffin cup wrappers (hard paper cups or tulip paper).
2. Melt the margarine and pour into a large mixing bowl.
3. Add the eggs, sugar, and vanilla sugar to the melted margarine. Whisk until smooth.
4. Stir in baking powder and flour. Mix until batter is smooth and fully combined (it should be thick).
5. Place 1 generous tablespoon of cherry pie filling on the bottom of each prepared muffin cup.
6. Scoop about 1 ½ tablespoons of batter on top of the filling. Smooth out the batter on top.
7. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
8. To serve, turn each cake upside down and carefully peel away the wrapper. Serve warm (suggested) or at room temperature. This makes a great side dish as well!

Who says fondue has to be complicated? These warm and creamy cups let every guest enjoy their own little pot of fondue—easy, festive, and absolutely delicious.
Chocolate Caramel Fondue:
3-4 bars of good-quality parve chocolate, chopped or 1- 9 oz. bag real chocolate chips
1 bag caramel chips
1 heaping tablespoon peanut butter or lotus butter (optional)
4-5 tablespoons oil
Add ons:
Sliced apples, peaches, pears, plums, starfruit, mango
Cherries
Figs
Dried fruits
Wafer rolls
Pretzels
Cookies
Large marshmallows
Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°.
2. In a medium pan, combine the chocolate, caramel chips, peanut butter, lotus butter, or hazelnut butter, and oil. Stir lightly to combine.
3. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until mostly melted. Chunks may remain—simply stir with a fork until smooth.
4. Keep warm in the oven (reduce temperature to the lowest heat setting), on a hot plate, or in a warming drawer until ready to serve. If the mixture gets too thick, you may add a bit of oil and stir well to loosen up.
To Serve: Divide the fondue into individual lucite serving cups. Place a large platter of add-ons in the center of the table so everyone can dip and enjoy.
Shabbos Note: Place the pan in your warmer, warming drawer, or on the blech before the zman. Keep on low heat so it stays warm and melty. Stir well right before serving at the sueda.

COOKIE RECIPE:
2 sticks margarine
1 ½ cups sugar
1 tbs vanilla sugar
2 eggs
3 ½ cups good quality flour
½ tsp salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream marg, sugar and vanilla sugar on high speed. Add eggs. Reduce speed. Add salt and slowly add the flour.
Roll out dough and use cookie cutters to create your shapes.
Bake for 9-11 minutes.
Cookies should be a light yellow color, not brown.
ROYAL ICING RECIPE:
3 egg whites
1 lb confection sugar
Few drops of water
Beat egg whites with electric beaters until stiff. Reduce Speed. Slowly add confection sugar while mixing on low speed. Add a few drops of water. Combine.
You now have icing which is a thick consistency. This is good for outlining, writing, or adding any details on top of your cookie. For the cookie backgrounds or areas that need to be smooth, you need flood consistency. You do this by adding a few drops of water until you reach a smooth consistency.
Divide icing into separate bowls and add food coloring or gel as needed.
You are now ready to fill piping bags!
As we wrap up the
cookies, we present you with out final crowning glory, the Dovid cookie! Enjoy the royal touch this beautiful collection of cookies add to your Succos! We wish you a Freilichen, Lechtige, Yom Tov!

How do you make the world’s most trusted accounting system do what it wasn’t built to do?
BQE Stucco, a national construction supplier, needed a solution to handle both in-person and online transactions, something Quickbooks wasn’t designed for. But our agents don’t take no for an answer. Fueled by deep know-how and grit few can match, we tested every angle and engineered a custom-integrated card reader to make every payment type possible. Today, BQE continues to operate without limits.

Your Weekly Q&A with PHC Medical Center
What’s
the difference between Tylenol, Motrin, and Advil? When should I choose one over the other, and are there situations where
I should avoid any of them? How many hours should I wait between
doses?
Also, I’ve seen recent news about a possible link between Tylenol and autism — can you explain what the research actually says and whether it’s something to be concerned about?
Nosson Hayum FNP
So, Tylenol has recently been in the news quite a bit in relation to possible dangers in pregnancy, so I guess this is a good time to discuss this topic. There are two main medications that are commonly used as over-the-counter treatments for pain and fever. They are ibuprofen and acetaminophen, and we will talk a bit about each of them. Before we do that, I want to quickly talk about medication names. When a manufacturer develops a new drug and applies to the FDA for approval, the medication is assigned a generic name by the FDA (acetaminophen, ibuprofen
etc) the manufacturer will then give its own name that they think is fitting and good for marketing and usually easier to use (Tylenol, Motrin, Advil etc) so it may be a bit confusing to see two different names on your medicine bottle, but this is the reason why.
Acetaminophen (brand name Tylenol) has been around for over a hundred years and has been used successfully and generally safely for the management of mild to moderate pain and fever. It has also been considered safe to use in pregnancy and infants. Recent news stories regarding safety in pregnancy are vague and questionable at best, and at worst have further blurred the lines between medical research and partisan politics that unfortunately permeate the world of medicine today.
So, before throwing out the Tylenol bottle you have at home, have a conversation with your doctor, because for many people, this is the safest medicine to use for fever and pain. The common dangers of acetaminophen are liver injury and overdose risk. People with liver disease need to be careful and consult with medical providers before taking. Overdoses can be extremely dangerous and should be reported as well. Acetaminophen can be used every four hours when needed, but talk to your doctor if you need more than three doses in a 24-hour period. Acetaminophen is available in pill, liquid, IV, or suppository forms.
Have a health question you’d like answered in this column? Write to: info@phcmedical.org
Ibuprofen, sold under the brand names Motrin and Advil (yes, they are the same medicine), is a newer medicine developed in the 1960s. This medicine is part of a bigger family of medications called NSAIDs, which were developed to reduce inflammation caused by rheumatic disease. Other medications in this family that
are commonly used are Aleve, Indocin, Toradol, and Mobic. Ibuprofen is available in pill and liquid forms, while some NSAIDs are available in IV or injection form as well (no approved NSAID suppositories are available). The frequency of use ranges from once a day to four times a day, and doses vary as well. These medications have a bit of a wider side effect profile, including cardiac, blood pressure, bleeding risks, ulcers, and renal disease. People with these diseases or at risk for them should discuss use with their medical providers before taking. However, in healthy young adults and children, ibuprofen is considered safe to use short-term for fever, pain, or inflammation and can be taken every six hours. The risks of a dangerous overdose are much less than with acetaminophen.
Overall, in people with a more complex medical history, acetaminophen will usually be a safer option, while people dealing with pain due to inflammation will do better with ibuprofen. But like everything else, the human body is a complex machine, and everyone's situation is a bit different, so discuss with your medical provider what is best for you.

Succos is supposed to be the yomtov of joy. Zman simchaseinu. Singing in the sukkah, family meals, Divrei Torah, cozy moments together. That’s the picture we carry in our minds.
But here’s the part that doesn’t get spoken about as much: the pressure that lands squarely on a mother’s shoulders. Suddenly, everyone’s home for days. The house is buzzing with energy, noise, and needs—from toddlers to teens to married kids dropping by or moving in. And somewhere inside, there’s this little voice whispering, it’s my job to make sure everyone is happy, inspired, connected.
And when it doesn’t look that way—when the kids are restless, the sukkah meal falls flat, or family time turns into bickering—that same voice comes back sharper: Why can’t I get my act together? Everyone else seems to manage. Maybe I’m just not doing enough.
The truth behind that voice.
You are not failing. You are human. And Succos, with all its beauty, also brings layers of challenge: too many days off school, different personalities under one roof, exhaustion from hosting, and the weight of high expectations.
No one—no one—has it all together, no matter how it looks on the outside. Behind every glowing sukkah photo is a spilled cup, a child who refused to come to the table, and a mother who wondered if she was doing enough.
Releasing the burden.
Your job on Succos is not to orchestrate perfect harmony. It’s to show up with presence. To do your best with the tools and energy you have right now. Sometimes that means a lively family meal; other times it means sandwiches in the sukkah with half the kids missing. Both are valid. Both count.
Happiness doesn’t come from you forcing it. It shows up in small, unexpected ways—a child proudly holding their lulav, siblings laughing to-
gether over something silly, a teenager surprising you by joining in the singing for a minute, or everyone enjoying that one dish you thought no one would touch. Those are the moments that count, and they don’t need perfection to be meaningful. Giving yourself permission.
It’s okay if not everyone is thrilled. It’s okay if some days feel long. It’s okay if your Succos doesn’t look like your neighbor’s. You are not doing it wrong. You’re living real life, with real people, and that is more than enough.
Succos isn’t about creating picture-perfect memories. It’s about knowing that Hashem is with you right in the middle of the noise, the laughter, and even the tension. The sukkah reminds us that a fragile space can still be filled with holiness—and the same is true for your home. Your efforts, even if messy or imperfect, are exactly what your family needs.
Your family doesn’t need perfection. They need you.
