Gelt Chocolate Bomb

A fun twist on the classic hot cocoa bomb—this Gelt Chocolate Bomb is filled with marshmallows and chocolate coins for the ultimate Chanukah treat.

1 Use a wooden dowel instead of the wafer roll

2 Coat the inside of a 2" plastic shot glass with melted chocolate: pour 1-2 tablespoons chocolate, twirl to cover the sides, and let dry. Repeat for a second coat.

3 Fill the center with mini marshmallows and pieces of chocolate coins until the cup is about ¾ full.

4 Pour more melted chocolate until the cup is full.

5 Place the wooden dowel into the center and top with more marshmallows.

6 Allow the dowel to settle slightly, then place in the fridge or freezer until firm.

7 Remove the bomb from the plastic cup and decorate with chocolate coins.

You Will Need

Lieber’s baking chocolate, melted

Lieber's Marshmallows

Lieber's White chocolate wafer rolls Toothpicks

Lieber’s Chanukah coins

1" plastic shot glasses

Directions

1 Cut the marshmallows into small pieces.

2 Carefully place a toothpick into each wafer roll, leaving about 1" of the toothpick exposed.

3 Remove one side of the foil from a chocolate coin and cut out a flame shape.

4 Use melted chocolate to attach the flame to the toothpick. Allow to dry.

5 Fill the shot glasses with melted chocolate.

6 Place the candle (wafer roll) in the center and sprinkle marshmallows around it.

7 When the candle starts settling, place the cup in the fridge or freezer until firm.

8 To remove the chocolate: hold the shot glass in your hands for a minute to warm it and release the chocolate, or carefully snip the plastic cup with scissors and peel it away.

9 To arrange a menorah, place a chocolate coin under each candle. You can also use the open foil side turned upside down as a base.

Chapter Two

The office was elegant and upscale, but that was not the reason he had come specifically here. The two reasons that had led him to contact Sun Jang, the owner of this factory, were his finely tuned production line and his reputation for honesty.

“When you catch a Chinese person lying, he won’t even blink,” Gedaliah had explained to him when they’d first spoken. “He’ll immediately say, ‘Okay, right. You want us to agree on something else?’ But everyone says that Sun Jang is very okay—reliable, diligent, smart. He gets it.”

The meeting at the office of the manager of the ‘Factory for the Production of Motorized Toys,’ the translation of the long, convoluted name in Chinese, went very well. They agreed on an adorable upsherin boy doll that would daven, sing zemiros, recognize the names of the alephbeis, ask for a ‘nosh with a hechsher,’ and do a few other shticky things along those lines. The deputy manager sat in on the meeting, and at one point, Gedaliah joined by phone. Things were falling into place. Aside for one thing, which Shimmy and Gedaliah had not taken note of before the flight.

“Three and a half weeks at least,” Shimmy told Batya on the phone, when he was in the taxi, on the way back

to the hotel. The interpreter sat beside him, also on the phone, and in any case, he didn’t know Hebrew. “That’s how long it will take for the sample to be ready. And that’s considered very fast, they say. His deputy manager also said so. And Gedaliah was very apologetic.”

“What does it help that he was apologetic?” Batya said, fighting the tears that were rising in her throat. The apology wouldn’t help her at night, with Shmuli and everything else.

“That’s why I thought that I’d come home and then go back when it’s ready. But on the other hand, isn’t it a waste of money? Another round-trip ticket?”

“Ask Gedaliah for another loan.”

“I can’t. He’s already invested his part and gave me one loan. It’s enough.”

They were both quiet.

And I’m here, in Eretz Yisrael, and he’s there, in New York. And I wonder and worry about him, all the time.

As I speak now with my daughterin-law, I feel like a shvigger all the way.

If anyone is listening to me, think: Have you ever been disappointed by something? Real disappointment, that eats away at you and hurts?

I’m sure you have. There is not a single person who has come to This World to simply lick honey all day. And if there are those around you who seem to be busy all day with harvesting honey and eating it, well, then, you can be sure that the bees are not always such good little insects.

PINEAPPLE PASSION

¼ cup lemon juice

½ cup fresh mint leaves, packed

14 oz frozen pineapple

½–¾ cup passionfruit juice

½ cup Minute Mix lychee boba, strained

½ cup Minute Mix passion fruit boba, strained

2 tablespoons sugar or simple syrup (optional)

Garnish:

¼ cup Minute Mix lychee boba, strained

Lemon slices

Fresh mint leaves

Use a sifter to strain the boba for the shake and for the garnish. Set aside.

Add lemon juice, mint leaves, frozen pineapple, and ½ cup passionfruit juice to the blender. Blend until thick and smooth.

Add small splashes of extra passionfruit juice if needed to help it blend.

Add a large spoonful of each boba to your glass, then pour the shake over it. Stir gently to mix.

Garnish each drink with some more strained boba, a slice of lemon, and fresh mint leaves.

BOBA BERRY AÇAI BOWL

Servings: 4 • Time: 5 minutes

1 (3.5 oz) packet frozen açaí purée

3 cups frozen strawberries

1 cup frozen blueberries

1 ½ cup orange juice

1 cup Minute Mix strawberry Boba, strained

Toppings:

2-3 tablespoons Minute Mix strawberry Boba, strained

2-3 tablespoons Minute Mix blueberry Boba, strained

2-3 tablespoons Minute Mix mango Boba, strained

Blueberries

Kiwi slices

Strawberry slices

Granola

Use a sifter to strain the boba for the açai blend and for the toppings. Set aside.

Add the frozen açaí purée, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, and orange juice to a blender and blend until thick and smooth. Add small splashes of orange juice if needed to help it blend.

Transfer to your bowls and gently mix in the strained strawberry boba, keeping the pearls whole.

Add the toppings: blueberries, Minute Mix strawberry

YOGURT PARFAIT WITH CITRUS BOBA FLOAT

1 ½ cups yogurt (plain or vanilla)

½ cup granola

1 cup fresh fruit

(strawberries, diced apples, diced plums, mango cubes, blueberries, or sliced kiwi)

½ cup Minute Mix strawberry Boba, strained

½ cup Minute Mix lychee boba, strained

Garnish:

Minute Mix strawberry Boba, strained

Minute Mix lychee boba, strained

Strawberry slices

Granola

Use a sifter to strain the strawberry boba and the lychee boba, plus extra for garnish. Set aside.

Add a layer of granola to the bottom of the glass.

Spoon in a layer of yogurt.

Add some fresh fruit and a spoonful of strained boba.

Continue layering yogurt, fruit, and boba until the glass is filled.

Garnish with Minute Mix strawberry Boba and Minute Mix lychee boba, strawberry slices, and granola.

Servings: 4 • Time: 5 minutes

1 cup orange juice

1 cup pineapple juice

½ cup Minute Mix strawberry Boba, strained

½ cup Minute Mix mango Boba, strained

½ - 1 cup cranberry juice (optional)

Ice cubes

Vodka Boba Ice Balls (optional): Yields 8-12 ice balls

Silicon sphere molds (approx 1 - 1.5 inch diameter)

¼ cup Minute Mix strawberry Boba, strained

¼ cup Minute Mix mango Boba, strained

1½ cups water

½ cup vodka

Use a sifter to strain the boba for the drink and for the ice balls.

For the ice balls, fill the bottom half the molds with strained boba (a mix of strawberry and mango).

Mix 1½ cups water with ½ cup vodka, then pour it over the boba to fill the rest of the molds. Freeze until solid.

Place 1 or 2 vodka boba ice balls into each glass.

Add ¼ cup orange juice, ¼ cup pineapple juice to each glass and top with some Minute Mix strawberry Boba and Minute Mix mango Boba. Add some ice cubes, then slowly pour cranberry juice over the ice to get a layered effect. Use a straw to give it a light stir before drinking.

RECAP: Zeesy’s friend asks her to join her volunteering for a chesed organization. Rivky is suspended. Rivky finally has her evaluation.

Zeesy followed Gitty into a small office. On second thought, she realized, it was not actually that small of an office, it was just crammed with four desks plus a few spare chairs in between. The lively flow of chatter paused when they entered, and a short, plump lady with sparkling brown eyes greeted them.

“Hi Gitty! Welcome back! And you must be Zeesy Hartman. Gitty told me all about you. We are so happy to have you join our team! Why don’t you sit down here by my desk and I’ll fill you in on what we do over here.” She cleared a stack of papers off a chair, then motioned for them to sit. “I’m Frady Horowitz, by the way.” She winked at Zeesy, who had been wondering, but felt too awkward to ask, as this lady seemed to be the one in charge and Zeesy assumed she would be expected to know her name already.

“Basically,” Frady began, “we help out kallahs. There

are many, many families who are overwhelmed by wedding expenses and are really struggling. We want to provide these kallahs what they need with dignity, so this special time won’t be spoiled by worry or embarrassment. We do lots of fundraising, get sponsors and discounts, and all sorts of things like that, so we’re able to offer amazing things for our kallahs. We call ourselves The Chasunah Center, so we sound like another store, not like a chessed organization. Offering a few different stunning packages, the kallah gets to choose what she prefers, which helps her feel excited and pampered and makes the experience more like shopping and less like tzedakah.” Frady paused for breath. Zeesy wondered how she was able to talk so fast, but at the same time felt a surge of excitement and energy coursing through her, no doubt as a result of the boundless enthusiasm bubbling from Frady’s every pore.

Linen, towels, dishes, small kitchen appliances, and other assorted household items were stacked neatly on the floor-to-ceiling shelves. “ODD, or Oppositional Defiant Disorder, is a type of disruptive behavior disorder, a condition in which the child shows ongoing patterns of uncooperative and defiant behavior. There are many ways this can play out. For example, the child will not listen when you command them to do or not do something, won’t listen to the rules, will argue with people in positions of authority, like her parents, teachers, etc., or will get overly upset or argumentative. You provided me with many examples of Rivka demonstrating all these behaviors in different situations.

Shulem thanked Dr. Kim while Malky nodded and smiled robotically, too overwhelmed to speak.

“The next major event coming up is our first-ever Chinese auction. It will take place right before Chanukah, and we want it to be super amazing so it will raise tons of funds to launch our furniture project. Now that yom tov is over, we’re starting to get cracking with that.

“Rivka has ADHD and ODD,” Dr. Kim declared with finality, then paused to let the news sink in.

She leaned forward and tried to concentrate as Dr. Kim went on to describe the treatment plan she had outlined for Rivky.

“The first part of the treatment plan is for Rivka to start on Concerta, a stimulant medication which will tame down her ADHD symptoms. I prescribed a relatively low dosage to start with, and over time we will work out if she needs more, less, or to switch to a different medication altogether. You will need to keep an eye out for side effects and any other changes you detect. Again, there are a few options of medications that could work for her, so if one is not doing the job or is causing unwanted side effects, we can try a different

one instead.

“My next recommendation is that Rivka attend weekly sessions with a therapist to teach her emotional regulation, social skills, and other important skills. I also strongly recommend that you, as her parents, follow a process known as Behavioral Parent Training, or BPT. It involves training with a therapist to teach you specific parenting techniques to deal with Rivka’s ODD.”

Shulem thanked Dr. Kim while Malky nodded and smiled robotically, too overwhelmed to speak.

“It really is not so complicated,” Shulem told her on the way home. “Rivky gets medicine so she won’t be so wild and impulsive. We get trained in parenting methods that work specifically for kids like Rivky. And Rivky meets with a therapist to teach her how to behave.”

“I guess, when you put it like that, it does sound simple. But each part can be a lot more difficult than it sounds. The medication needs to be monitored to see if it’s working, if it has side effects, if she needs a different amount… it could be a long process. And the parenting methods need to actually be carried out. Learning it is the easy part, parenting advice usually sounds easy in theory, but is much harder to follow through with on a daily basis. And for Rivky’s therapy, we need to find a therapist that is a good fit for her in order for it to actually help her.”

“True, it will be a process, it’s not something that will happen overnight, and it will involve plenty of work on our part,” Shulem admitted.

“But I think it’s doable, and im yirtzeh Hashem, after a few months, we should see noticeable improvement. I’m very hopeful.”

Malky smiled, allowing herself to latch onto her husband’s optimism instead of getting caught up in a whirlpool of worry and overwhelm.

Most people currently in their 40s or 50s will remember seeing Hepatitis B regularly when they were children. People born in the 90s or later will rarely have seen the virus, most likely due to the vaccine. Like most other vaccines, this speaks strongly to the effectiveness of the vaccine. However, as the rates of vaccination fall, we will likely see an increase in new cases of the virus.

Boosters are also usually not necessary, as the vaccine usually provides permanent immunity, and titers are usually only required for high-risk healthcare employees.

A parent’s head can truly feel like it might burst from the never-ending conflicts between siblings. The bickering, the snatching, the yelling—sometimes it feels like it never stops. And when you’re tired, stretched thin, and out of patience, it’s so natural to blurt out, “I don’t want to hear this,” or “Please, just work it out yourselves.” Those reactions don’t come from not caring; they come from sheer exhaustion and a feeling of helplessness that every parent knows in their bones.

But here’s the part we sometimes forget: those responses only make sense after we’ve actually taught our children what to do instead. We can only expect them to “figure it out” once we’ve spent real time showing them how. Children don’t automatically know how to speak respectfully, ask for what they need, or calm themselves down during a disagreement. These are learned skills, shaped by patient teaching, modeling, and repetition. A lot of repetition.

And simply ignoring hurtful behavior doesn’t make it disappear. In fact, child-development research is very clear: what goes unaddressed is unintentionally reinforced. When we look away during moments of teasing, excluding, or hitting, we’re not avoiding the problem—we’re letting it settle deeper into the family dynamic.

This is the part of parenting that requires the longest view. Teaching siblings to treat each other right isn’t a weekend project or a new-year resolution. It’s YEARS of guiding, reminding, stepping in when needed, and stepping back when they’re ready. It means coaching them on the same phrases again and again. It means staying calm (or recovering quickly when you’re not). It means holding a vision for who they can become even on the loud, messy, overwhelming days.

But the payoff is real.

Those countless micro-lessons eventually turn into something beautiful. The same siblings who once drove each other crazy will one day surprise you with genuine tenderness, loyalty, and maturity. And later—sometimes much later—you’ll watch them grow into adults with solid people skills: patience, empathy, the ability to apologize, problem-solve, and treat others with dignity.

None of that happens by accident. It grows out of the slow, steady work you’re doing right now, in the chaos of ordinary family life.

Take a quiet moment, anchor yourself, and lead with calm consistency.

DELUXE DREIDEL PAVLOVA

A show-stopping meringue centerpiece piled high with rich cream, warm drizzles, and sweet, crunchy goodness.

Pavlova

4 egg whites (room temperature)

1 cup sugar

2 teaspoons cornstarch

1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste (or extract)

1 teaspoon vinegar

Toppings:

Baker’s Choice Lotus Cream

Chocolate syrup or Chocolate ganache

Melted peanut butter, optional

16 ounces whipped topping

1 package Osem instant vanilla pudding

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 285°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Using the whisk attachment, beat the egg whites on high speed until foamy.

3. Slowly add the sugar while continuing to beat on high speed.

4. Once stiff peaks form (you can flip the bowl and test if the mixture remains firm), fold in the cornstarch, vanilla, and vinegar with a spatula.

5. Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fitted with a star tip (you can also use a ziploc bag, snipped open at the edge).

6. Pipe the meringue into a dreidel shape. Pipe an additional smaller layer on top.

7. Bake for 1 hour (do not open the oven).

8. After 1 hour, turn off the oven (don’t remove the pavlova yet).

9. Open the oven door just a bit and let the pavlova cool completely in the oven (overnight works best).

10. Once fully cooled, carefully transfer the pavlova to a platter.

11. Meanwhile, whip the whipped topping with the instant vanilla pudding until stiff. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a star tip (or ziploc bag, snipped open).

12. Melt the Lotus cream and peanut butter (optional) in the microwave for 25–30 seconds until thin and pourable. Drizzle over the meringue base. Add some chocolate syrup or ganache.

13. Pipe the whipped cream on top.

14. Add another drizzle of lotus cream, peanut butter, and chocolate syrup. Top with your choice of garnish.

15. Keep refrigerated and serve within 24–48 hours, or freeze (wrapped well) and serve as a frozen treat.

To serve, spoon 1-2 tablespoons of the tea essence into each cup. Add boiling water to dilute. Garnish with sliced tangerines, oranges, or blood oranges, mint, and cinnamon sticks.

Ingredients

2 ¼ cups all purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, room temperature

¾ cup sugar

¾ cup dark brown sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 eggs

1 (9-ounce) bag real chocolate chips (about 1 ½ cups)

¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts cooking spray

1 (4-ounce) good-quality parve chocolate bar

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350° and grease about 12-14 ramekins or large paper muffin cups (flower shape) with cooking spray.

2. In the bowl of a standing mixer, add the butter (or margarine), sugar and brown sugar. Mix until light and fluffy.

3. Add the vanilla and eggs and mix until incorporated.

4. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt, and mix until just combined. Add in the chocolate chips and nuts and mix for a few seconds until evenly distributed.

5. Using a scoop, place a 1 tablespoon-size ball of dough on the bottom of each cup/ramekin. Flatten with your fingers.

6. Cut each chocolate square in half and place the two halves, stacked in the center of the cookie dough.

7. Add a small spoonful of Lotus cream or peanut butter on top.

8. Carefully cover with a second 1 ½ tablespoon-size ball of dough, flattening to completely seal the filling.

9. Place the filled cups on a cookie sheet and bake for about 1820 minutes (baking time varies by size), until the tops are golden and no longer look wet. Do not overbake, as they will continue setting as they cool.

10. Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream and your choice of toppings.

If serving for Friday night, keep warm on a blech or warming tray.

These freeze well. Let fully defrost before rewarming.

COOKIE RECIPE:

2 sticks margarine

1 ½ cups sugar

1 tbs vanilla sugar

2 eggs

3 ½ cups good quality flour

½ tsp salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cream marg, sugar and vanilla sugar on high speed. Add eggs. Reduce speed. Add salt and slowly add the flour.

Roll out dough and use cookie cutters to create your shapes.

Bake for 9-11 minutes.

Cookies should be a light yellow color, not brown.

This is a real fun cookie to decorate Lekoved Chanuka, and the best part of it is, you don’t need a specific cookie cutter! You can use any round shape like a cup, a bowl, and then a smaller cup for the doughnut hole! The decorating is super easy too, you can have fun experimenting with one color, a few colors, you can use real sprinkles or color your icing and pipe sprinkles!

Colors Needed: Outline: Brown and your chosen color for the icing. Flood: Brown and your chosen color for the icing. Real sprinkles or color your icings for the sprinkles. You can make brown by using cocoa.

ROYAL ICING RECIPE:

3 egg whites

1 lb confection sugar

Few drops of water

Beat egg whites with electric beaters until stiff. Reduce Speed. Slowly add confection sugar while mixing on low speed. Add a few drops of water. Combine.

You now have icing which is a thick consistency. This is good for outlining, writing, or adding any details on top of your cookie. For the cookie backgrounds or areas that need to be smooth, you need flood consistency. You do this by adding a few drops of water until you reach a smooth consistency.

Divide icing into separate bowls and add food coloring or gel as needed.

You are now ready to fill piping bags!

1. Outline your doughnut in brown outline icing. Dry 10 mins.

2. Flood with brown flood icing. Dry min 1 hour.

3. With your chosen color, pipe a swirly line on the outer edge and a swirly line on the inner edge. Pic 3 and 4.

4. Making sure the cookie is dry, flood with your chosen color. Pic 5 and 6.

5. If adding sprinkles, do so whilst still wet. Alternatively, pipe tiny lines in different color icings to create your own, real looking sprinkles, as pictured. Pic 7
