RECAP OF CHAPTER 76:
Helena Wangel is uneasy. She had picked up the phone to make a call and heard two people speaking to each other, in German mixed with Hebrew. She tells her father about it, though she doesn’t mention that one of the voices sounded a bit familiar to her. Binyamin is unsure whether or not the noises he heard was someone picking up the phone in middle of his call. He nervously returns to the clinic, where Irwin is fuming that he’s disappeared. He brings in Leo, his father-in-law, but before the angry man can do anything to Binyamin, Leo receives a message that Wangel wants him to come to the manor house immediately!
Elky,
I know that you were just released from the clinic, but my father has been summoned urgently to the manor house. Please come right away and check that everything is in order in the accounts and the salaries, because we are afraid they are going to do a thorough inspection.
And destroy this note.
Eva
“Who gave you this note?” Elky asked the boy at the door, suspicion in her voice. It was Herzlich’s son, and everyone knew the open secret that he’d never learned to read in any language.
Dr. Annie claimed that the issue was that he was severely crosseyed, and she didn’t have the resources to help him. The office used him as a courier to send around written messages that they didn’t want anyone except the recipient reading.
“Eva. Eva Sherer,” the boy replied.
Elky picked up the baby from her bed, wrapped him in a thin blanket, and hurried outside. She ran along the path breathlessly and walked into the office a few minutes later. Only Eva was there, and in the inner office there were a few men standing and speaking animatedly.
“Hi,” Elky greeted Eva.
The other girl did not respond, as she was engrossed in her desk drawers—opening and closing them, picking up pads of paper, leafing through them, putting them back.
“What happened?” Elky asked.
YOUR WISHLIST , ON SALE.
“Herr Wangel called my father and told him to come immediately.” Eva did not return her gaze. “More importantly: Where is the copy of the contract between us about the bills you do instead of me? I hope it’s not here.”
“No, it’s at home.” Was there anyone else besides Eva who knew how many nights she’d worked, including in the clinic after the baby’s birth, in order to increase their monthly salary just a tiny bit more? Eva paid her well, because she hated everything relating to accounting, and if not for the fact that she was her father’s daughter, she’d never have dreamed of working in the office.
The main thing was that she’d found a way to earn some more marks each month, and this made her breathe a bit easier. She couldn’t stomach the thought of life in poverty, despite Mottel’s words that, “I didn’t know how paved with poverty the path to wealth is.” True, now they were at a stage where they had to work harder, and to save, but it was just so that later on, they could live a more comfortable life. It was worth it, definitely worth it.
Was it possible that someone had discovered something wrong with the office reports? She hoped Eva was not about to dismantle this agreement that they had!
Elky put the baby down on the folded blanket in the corner of the office, and hurried to the shelf that held the files containing all the office bills from the past year. “I’ll check that everything is in order,” she told Eva soothingly, as she glanced at the inner office. The people there were too busy, and too noisy, to listen to them. “As for our arrangement—you don’t have to worry. People are allowed to let others work instead of them, aren’t they?”
“Not without permission from the real bosses,” Eva whispered back nervously. “But it doesn’t matter right now. For now, check that everything is in order. What I did, what you did, everything.”
Elky grimaced. “I see the pressure here is really serious.”
“I’m the one who answered when Wangel rang,” Eva said. She stopped everything she was doing, stood up, and pointed to the communication radio hanging on the wall. “He sounded terrifying; I’ve never heard him so furious before. When was the last time he demanded that my father come to him at the manor house?”
“Maybe it really has nothing to do with office matters,” Elky said hopefully. “Not the accounts or the private deal between us. If he suspected that something here was being mismanaged, he would have barged into the office without any advance warning.”
“Maybe. In any case, who knows which option is more frightening!”
“What could he want already?” Elky said. “To complain about the cleanliness at the factory, or about some serious problem in the fur production? Problems in the office, relating to our reliability, are much more nerve-wracking.”
“For someone who is only worried that she might have to suffice with a smaller salary from now on, I guess yes, that really is much worse,” Eva said, rolling her eyes. “But someone who has a few more things on his or her mind

is also afraid of other possibilities. Stop being so self-absorbed, Elky! And so focused on the money that you just want to earn all day!”
“Okay, fine. I heard you…” Elky muttered.
The baby in the corner burst out crying, his thin arms pumping up and down.
“He doesn’t have a name yet, right?” Eva asked, her every move hasty and a bit jerky. “Speak to your family—maybe they’ll agree that you should call him Mark, and then you’ll have one more mark at home.”
“Ha, ha, very funny.” Elky fixed her with a sharp look and then went back to work. How, how would this all end? She just hoped their routine was not about to change.

“Within two hours! Two hours! Those communications devices better be here, together with the people who spoke on them.” Wangel’s eyes were bloodshot.
Leo Sherer nodded at him. “We’ll make every effort, Hauptman.”
forehead, considering the option.
“But who did the person speak to?”
Katarina interjected. “There has to be another device on the other side, right?”
“The Gefreiter heard two people speaking?” Sherer asked.
“Yes.”
“And maybe two people in the office were talking to each other next to the device when it was switched on?”
“It didn’t sound like that, and don’t try to buy time.” Wangel’s face hovered very close to Sherer’s.
“Aside for Schvi—?!” Leo stopped, and his eyes grew wide. “His delusions! The telephone!”
“Your effort doesn’t interest me.” Wangel moved toward him with two long strides. Leo didn’t move. “Do whatever you want to do, but within two hours—those devices better be here. They are all that interest me. And I repeat: Including those who put them together and used them.”
“May I ask something, Herr Wangel?”
“Yes.”
“Maybe nobody put together anything, and they were just trying out the device in the office, through which you convey orders to us?”
Josef rubbed his thumb on his high
“Because these minutes are coming off the two hours that I gave you, is that clear?”
“I’m sorry, sir, if there’s an impression that I wanted to buy time. I’m simply trying to understand clearly what happened here.” Leo glanced at the floor tiles and then raised his eyes to the Nazi. “I’m trying to think: Maybe it was a conversation that took place outside the camp, and not among any of my people?”
“The nearest village is too far to pick up conversations by mistake.”
“Can a phone even pick up a conversation from a communications device?” Leo asked.
“Sometimes the frequencies get mixed up, especially on cordless phones.” Josef’s eyes suddenly darkened. “Or maybe it was an actual telephone, and someone used our line to call out? For your benefit, I really hope that is not the case.”
“They didn’t do it, Josef,” Katarina said suddenly. “You think they would actively invite the SS here to slaughter every last one of them?”
“I don’t know.” The man’s eyes glittered with fury. “If I discover that it was real telephone, I swear I will not wait for the SS. I will kill you all myself.”
This time Sherer only nodded. Wangel stepped back and sat down on his chair, breathing heavily, as if he was making an effort to suppress something that was about to erupt from inside him. “Go,” he said after a moment. “Go, and make sure that I don’t have to wait one minute more than I said.”
Leo Sherer hoped that his gait looked stable as he walked out of the manor house grounds and turned toward the office. He was well aware of the group of people that had formed recently, but if they would have communications devices, they wouldn’t need to meet in the middle of the night, in a way that gave them away to him. He ignored the people who froze in place the second they saw his figure at the door, including his son-in-law, David Elkovitz. He entered and slumped down into his chair.
Only Eva dared approach. “Papa?” she asked as she sat down in the wooden chair opposite him. “What do they want?”
He waved his hand for a second, as if banishing a small, irritating bird, but then he pulled himself together. “They intercepted on their home phone a short conversation, partially in German and partially in Hebrew. Eva, were you here in the office during the funeral?”
“Yes.”
“Did anyone come in and use the communications radio?”
“No.”
Leo took a deep breath. “Do you know of anyone in the camp who has recently tried to put together a communications device, or—” he stopped for a second, something irritating niggling at his mind—“a real telephone?”
Eva glanced behind her, maybe toward Elkovitz. “I don’t know about it.” She lowered her voice to a whisper. “But I know only one person who has the ability and the tools to do so.”
Her father gazed at her for a long moment, and then at once, sparks flashed in his eyes. “Don’t you dare mention Suzy, you hear? She’s not involved in this!” he said very sharply, his jaw set.
Eva was quiet. Leo raised his eyes to one of the office workers who was approaching. “We need to gather everyone urgently,” he said to the man in front of him, who had a mixture of concern and curiosity on his face. “Every resident should come to the factory courtyard in ten minutes, at most. Send the kennel children to summon them, immediately.”
Three workers hurried out, as did David Elkovitz. But as the three ran to the kennels, he hurried in the other direction. Leo Sherer remained sitting on his office chair, leaning back silently, one hand supporting his chin.
Just a few minutes later, Irwin walked in.
His father-in-law shook off his reverie. “Yes?”
“A message came to the clinic in your name that everyone should gather at the factory courtyard right now. Did you mean that seriously? What do we do with the sick patients?” he asked. “The doctor sent me to ask you. Because aside for Schvirtz, there’s someone there with a very contagious virus, and two others who are really weak.”
“Aside for Schvi—?!” Leo stopped, and his eyes grew wide. “His delusions! The telephone!” he said hoarsely. He stood up, then wobbled, missing the look on the face of David Elkovitz, who was standing near the open door. “Anyone who can get up to come should do that. And send Binyamin Schvirtz over here. I want him in this room, this minute.” TO

QIs there a problem occasionally cooking your cutlets or chicken with sweet sauces such as honey, BBQ sauce, brown sugar and duck sauce, even if it is a little bit when dieting? How about for maintenance?
ASweet sauces—like teriyaki, duck sauce, honey garlic glaze, or BBQ— are typically high in sugar and calories. When dieting, these can add up quickly without providing satiety. But that doesn’t mean you can never use them again.
If you’re cooking a whole pot of chicken and using just a tablespoon or two of a sweet sauce across multiple servings, that small amount is not likely to make or break your weight loss—especially if the rest of your eating is clean and on track. The key here is moderation and portion awareness.
Once you’ve reached your goal and are maintaining your weight, your body has a little more flexibility. At this stage, a small amount of sweet sauce in a balanced meal is fine, especially if you’ve developed strong habits and understand portion control. Just don’t let it become an everyday thing, or a crutch that leads to overeating or sugar cravings.
Sweet sauces are not the only way to make chicken flavorful. Here are four no-sugar, easy-to-make recipes that are satisfying and diet-friendly:
1. Garlic Herb Chicken Cutlets
Ingredients:
Chicken cutlets
Fresh garlic (minced)
Olive oil (just a drizzle)
Dried oregano, parsley, thyme
Salt & pepper
Fresh lemon juice
Instructions:
Rub chicken cutlets with garlic, olive oil, herbs, salt, and pepper. Squeeze lemon juice over the top. Bake or pan-fry with a little cooking spray until golden. Refreshing and full of flavor— without a trace of sugar.
2. Paprika-Lime Sheet Pan
Chicken
Ingredients:
Boneless chicken thighs
Paprika (smoked if you like)
Cumin
Garlic powder
Juice of 1 lime
Olive oil spray
Instructions:
Toss chicken with spices and lime juice. Spread on a sheet pan and roast at 400°F until cooked through and slightly crispy. Add sliced zucchini, peppers, or onions for an easy one-pan dinner.
3. Israeli Shawarma Chicken
Ingredients:
Chicken breast or thigh strips
Shawarma spice mix (cumin, turmeric, coriander, garlic, paprika)
Onion slices
Salt, pepper
Optional: a dollop of techina
(tahini) to serve (Can also be counted as your fat)
Instructions:
Sauté chicken with onions and spices until browned and tender. Serve in lettuce wraps or over salad for a low-carb Middle Eastern-style dish.
4. Balsamic Mushroom Chicken
Ingredients:
Chicken breasts
Sliced mushrooms
Onion
Splash of balsamic vinegar
Garlic
Instructions:
Cook mushrooms and onions with garlic in a non-stick pan. Add chicken and a splash of balsamic vinegar. Simmer until chicken is tender and flavors meld. Balsamic adds richness without needing sugar.
It’s completely okay to occasionally use a small amount of sweet sauce—especially if it helps you stick to your plan and enjoy your meals. Just keep it to a tiny amount over a large batch, and be mindful of how often you do it. Balance it out with healthy habits, and remember that food can be delicious and weight-loss-friendly without needing sugar.
Experiment with spices, citrus, herbs, and savory flavors—you may find you don’t miss the sweet stuff at all.

The Rambam’s brother financially supported him until tragedy struck and he drowned in a shipwreck. Left without a source of income, the Rambam chose to become a doctor. His expertise soon became wellknown far and wide to the point that he became the physician of the grand vizier and later, the sultan of Egypt. He wrote numerous treatises on health & medicine and included directives about health in his Sefer Mishneh Torah. He taught that the body and soul are interconnected, so the body must be cared for to allow a person to serve Hashem fully.
The Rambam formulated the 13 Principles of Faith – the fundamental beliefs of a Jew. Some have the custom of reciting them every morning after Davening.
Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon, also known as the Rambam, was a Torah scholar, philosopher and doctor. He was born in Spain but was forced to flee to Morocco, then Egypt, due to religious persecution. While on the run, the Rambam began authoring one of his monumental works, Pirush L’Mishnayos and throughout his lifetime, wrote other important works. These included Moreh Nevuchim, Sefer Hamitzvos and the Mishneh Torah - the only book of Halacha that includes every part of Jewish life, even those which will be applicable only in Moshiach’s times. He was appointed Chief Rabbi of Cairo and devoted himself to their spiritual needs as well as the needs of Jewish communities in other countries.
Taking care of our physical health is part of serving Hashem. For example, when we make sure to eat and sleep properly, then we have the energy and strength to do Mitzvos properly.

Dip the bottom of the balloon into the paint. Give it a little spin on the canva. Alternate colors using the maroon’s and white, making sure not to use too much paint so it dries faster.

Assemble the stethoscope on the template. Add a thin black circle around both white chest pieces, and another small black circle in the center of the chest piece.
-Paint: Red, White, and Blue
-2 Paintbrushes
-2x 4 oz. Containers -Balloon
Blow up the balloon just a little bit so that it fits into the containers of paint, and tie it.
Put the canvas aside to dry. Use the template to roll out the shapes indicated on the sheet, making sure to use the correct colors.
Once the canvas is dry, place the stethoscope in the center, and press it down on all sides to secure it.

(WOODRIDGE, NY) — With summer in full swing and the upstate season underway, one supermarket is making headlines—not just for what it's selling, but for how it's redefining the upstate shopping experience.
Honeydew, the popular kosher supermarket that opened in Woodridge last year on Greenfield Road, has returned this season with a dramatically expanded footprint, a slate of new amenities, and a lineup of in-store vendors that has transformed the store into a full-service destination for Catskills residents and vacationers.
“We listened carefully to what the community needed,” said Honeydew owner Mr. Jalas. “We knew we had a solid foundation, but this summer, we wanted to create something truly comprehensive.”
A PREMIUM UPGRADE FOR A BETTER SHOPPING
Among the most noticeable changes is the store’s physical upgrade. The expanded parking lot now accommodates more vehicles during peak hours, while reconfigured aisles and wider walkways inside the store have significantly improved foot traffic and flow. Checkout lanes have also been improved, shortening wait times even during highvolume periods like Erev Shabbos.
The supermarket has also invested in logistical improvements, including an updated inventory system, an easy-to-use online ordering platform with same-day delivery capabilities, and an on-site keilim mikvah, all aimed at making shopping more efficient and convenient for the community.
While infrastructure changes are significant, it’s the expanded food and vendor offerings that are generating the most attention.
Honeydew has several notable in-store partners running different departments. Leil Shishi, a well-known name in kosher takeout and Shabbos cuisine, is operating the store’s deli counter, offering hot meals and Shabbos trays. A fullservice fish counter by Fishpond provides fresh, high-quality options for both weekday and Shabbos cooking. Cheesy Pizza has a popular on-site pizza shop location with seating, giving families a convenient option for lunch or dinner while shopping.
Additionally, upscale floral vendor Blooms offers stunning flower arrangements and bouquets, allowing customers to enhance their Shabbos tables without making an additional stop.
“We’re proud to be working with the same trusted vendors as last year—people our customers already know and rely on,” said Mr. Jalas. “But we didn’t stop there. We’re raising the bar and aiming even higher this year.”
REWARDS, AND REAL SUMMER SAVINGS
To complement the in-store upgrades, Honeydew also launched a new seasonal campaign built around a simple but resonant message: “Let’s Dew Summer Shopping.”
The campaign highlights how Honeydew is there for every part of upstate life… from Erev Shabbos shopping to Sunday barbecue prep, midweek pizza runs to late-night ice cream pickups. With expanded departments, aisles of product lines, and reliable service, the message is clear: whatever your summer needs, Honeydew helps you Dew it, all summer long.
As part of this summer’s rollout, Honeydew has also introduced a unique weekly raffle called the “Let’s Dew Toyamehu & Melava Malka” contest.
Open to all customers, the promotion offers bungalow colonies a chance to win a free Friday Toyamehu or Motzei Shabbos Melava Malka pop-up event—complete with free food and giveaways, delivered directly to your colony for everyone to enjoy.
ENTRY IS SIMPLE: SHOP AT HONEYDEW AND ASK THE CASHIER TO ENTER YOUR COLONY INTO THE WEEKLY DRAWING.
It’s just one more way Honeydew is turning everyday shopping into something fun, memorable, and communityfocused.
WHAT CATSKILLS CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING
Since reopening for the season, the response has been “overwhelmingly positive,” according to staff. Foot traffic has surpassed last year’s figures, and customer feedback has praised the expanded product offerings and overall efficiency of the shopping experience.
One longtime Flatbush resident, who spends summers in Woodridge, shared:
“I was honestly shocked, but in a good way. Every aisle is spotless and clean. The atmosphere is trendy and modern. The prices here are the same as my supermarket back home in Brooklyn. Some items were even cheaper. Everything was priced so fairly, which is not what you expect when you’re shopping in the mountains.”
Looking Ahead to “Dewing” Summer Shopping Better
With its thoughtful upgrades and expanded partnerships, Honeydew is positioning itself as more than just a grocery store… it’s becoming a central part of summer life in the Catskills.
As one shopper put it while exiting with a full cart and a hot slice of pizza in hand:
“You can tell the people running Honeydew thought about every detail. This isn’t just a supermarket anymore. It’s where the summer starts.”

Stories that make the song play in your head and morph into something greater than the sum of lyrics and melody; an impetus for introspection and growth.
Master of the universe, I know and believe that I am solely in Your hands, like clay in the hands of a potter. Even if I would fortify myself with advice and strategies and all of mankind would stand by my side to support me, [it would all be in vain because] without you, I will not be helped or saved [from any challenge]
This song, based on the words of R’ Meir HaLevy M’Apta, was composed by R’ Pinchus Breuer and sung by Avraham Fried in 2016.
The sun beat down on our heads and the shimmering blue-green water beckoned. I sipped another ice-cold drop of water from the silver-foil-wrapped bottle and shook the ice up and down.
“Miriam, is there a line of people waiting?” I asked the tallest girl in the class who stood in front of me.
“No. Actually, I think there’s no one here besides us!” she said, spinning around to face our fellow classmates.
I was hot. And so were my classmates. The boat looked inviting and so did the glorious lake. It was even more thrilling to be here today, in May, than on Chol HaMoed or in the summer, especially since we had worked hard to earn this privilege. This grand excursion, exclusively for grades 7 and 8 was a reward for our excellent behavior and positive attitude. Even for me, Gitty the Goody-Goody, it hadn’t been easy.
“Who remembers how long ago Mrs. Braun announced this contest?” I wondered aloud.
“Right after midwinter vacation,” Libby, our unofficial class secretary responded right on beat. “That’s when spring fever starts,” she added, imitating our principal’s voice and inflections.
We giggled. How on earth did she manage to recall the exact language the principal had used? I remember the basic idea, of course.
Mrs. Braun gathered the two oldest classes and gave a very official speech. Basically, she told us that since our school was new and growing we would need to try and be a good example to the rest of the grades, blah blah blah, and she understood it was hard for us especially when it was getting closer to the end of the year, blah blah blah, but she was sure we could do it, blah blah blah. And the punchline: Since it was so crucial that we give off the right attitude and set the tone for the rest of the school, we would be richly rewarded for living up to the standards she set
for us. With that mysterious smile of hers, she zipped her lips and refused to tell us what the reward would be.
Miri claimed Mrs. Braun probably had no plans yet; telling us “It’s a surprise” was a mere ploy to get our imaginations soaring and our adrenaline pumping.
Shany said Mrs. Braun was way too straightforward for that, but was afraid we’d turn our noses if we heard what it was. That would risk having us continue our admittedly boisterous conduct…and having the rest of the school consider it okay to follow our lead.
But the secret surprise kept us going. Honestly, we loved Mrs. Braun too much to let her down.
And the going, like I mentioned before, was not exactly a walk in the park.
“Right after that speech, I think it was the next day, the steam broke, remember?”
“Yeah, and we sat in our coats until the electric heaters made us shvitz,” Bruchy interjected.
“It was impossible to listen to our math class with that old radiator hissing away…”
“Then Mr.Perlstein brought down that guy to fix the steam, finally, and we were expected to take notes and listen with all the noise going on.”
“And then came Rosh Chodesh Adar. I wish we could’ve done that shtick…”
“It was so nebby to just switch seats and put on masks. C’mon - switching schools, sending our kindergarten sisters, a treasure hunt leading to the baseball field… What a waste of a day! Did we really have to approve our plans? It’s like-”
I stopped Miri’s litany short. “True, we could’ve had more fun. But then we’d have to pay up. We certainly wouldn’t be here now!”
Begrudgingly, she nodded. “Nu - so what’s this boating trip all about? Standing under the sun and patting ourselves on the back?”
A collective grunt rippled through the class. Even the seventh graders joined the commotion.
Toby Gross, a super-eidel seventh grader, offered to approach Mrs. Braun directly to find out what was happening.
We watched the quick exchange between the petite, blond-haired girl whose face was red from a combination of shyness and heat and the poised, tall principal who looked uncharacteristically flustered. Nodding, she said something to Toby, after which she told us to sit down at the far right, under the tree. Then she approached us, flanked by our teachers, Miss Werzberger and Mrs. Koegel, who looked equally strained. My heart sank.
“Girls, I must start by mentioning how impressed I am by your behavior during this long wait. It’s hot and you’re so excited and eager to get onto the boat, but you’re waiting so quietly and appropriately.”
Okay, okay, I remember thinking, why don’t you get to the point already? We waited long enough already!
Glancing sideways at the teachers for support, Mrs. Braun continued.
“I called Brad’s Boating in advance to make sure everything would be in order. But it seems like there was a misunderstanding, somehow. They told me that according to the safety regulations, we need to have at least 5 chaperones, or adults, supervising 50 students.”
Shock. Silence. Utter disappointment. Anger. How else can I describe how we felt at that moment? But Mrs. Braun, with her everflowing optimism, plowed on.
“Girls, it might seem like a hopeless situation. I mean, rules are rules and I’m the first one to believe that to be true,” she smiled at us in a feeble attempt to defuse the tension.
“Still, we know that Hashem runs the world. We know it, but do we really believe it? I mean believe that He can practically do anything to help us?”
Mrs. Braun paused for a few moments, letting the message sink in.
was entrusting us with a sacred mission. And she believed we could rise to the challenge. “You will all sit quietly and think about, and I mean really contemplate and believe in, the words ודבלמ דוע ןיא - there is no one who has power besides Hashem. Concentrate on these words and on the truth that He can make what seems impossible - possible. While you do that, I’ll go over to Brad, the owner, and try to negotiate with him.”
Solemnly, we nodded our heads. It felt like a storybook, a Baal Shemsker maaseh in the making. I can’t tell you I foresaw the ending, but deep down, in my heart of hearts, I sensed that the unified focus on three powerful words was a force to be reckoned with.
I closed my eyes. I wasn’t looking, but I assume that many of my friends did the same. It was the only way I could concentrate. In the darkness, there was no gate, no Brad, no boat, no principal, no money, no lake even. All I thought about was Hashem. He is the one who decrees and carries out His plans. He could change what seems to be the reality and switch it in the most unexpected way. Ein Od Milvado, Ein Od Milvado, Ein Od Milvado - I chanted in my head. Ten seconds passed. I felt my temples throbbing. The intensity was overwhelming. Another few seconds of single minded focus.
A whisper. A hushed conversation. Quick footsteps. It had to be good news; I could hear it from the rhythm of her stride.
“Baruch Hashem, girls, I don’t have the words,” Mrs. Braun announced. Was it a tear I saw dripping out of her eye?
“I don’t understand exactly what happened… Brad called a partner. He said something about exceptions. Or the weather. Or some fine print. Whatever the case is, it’s surely connected to your Ein Od Milvado work. Go down to the dock and line up in pairs. When your name is called, grab a lifejacket and follow instructions.”
“Look, I don’t know what He wants from us now, but I do believe that we can try our best to somehow make this work out. The only tool we have, and it’s the most powerful one, is bitachon. Here’s the deal, girls.”
She scanned our faces seriously and we stared right back at her. Somehow, we sensed that she
You know how we say that someone’s “on a high?”
Well, that experience took that expression to, excuse the pun, the next level.
And whenever life throws impossibilities my way, I take a deep breath, close my eyes and remember that everything is from Him.

COOKIE RECIPE:
2 sticks margarine
1 ½ cups sugar
1 tbs vanilla sugar
2 eggs
3 ½ cups good quality flour
¾ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream marg, sugar and vanilla sugar on high speed. Add eggs. Reduce speed. Add baking powder, salt and slowly add the flour.
Roll out dough and use cookie cutters to create your shapes.
Bake for 9-11 minutes.
Cookies should be a light yellow color, not brown.
ROYAL ICING RECIPE:
3 egg whites
1 lb confection sugar
Few drops of water
Beat egg whites with electric beaters until stiff. Reduce Speed. Slowly add confection sugar while mixing on low speed. Add a few drops of water. Combine.
You now have icing which is a thick consistency. This is good for outlining, writing, or adding any details on top of your cookie. For the cookie backgrounds or areas that need to be smooth, you need flood consistency. You do this by adding a few drops of water until you reach a smooth consistency.
Divide icing into separate bowls and add food coloring or gel as needed.
You are now ready to fill piping bags!
