But the kids replied with more jeers and laughed at him. –I wish a crab would bite you in the bottom. Our seventy-year-old man had already given up runnig after the children. One day, a boy named Denis suggested: –Let’s go to see Joxe Manuel tha pirate. A bunch of youngsters gathered. Joxe was there, like always, sitting on the same rock, putting an earthworm in the fishing hook. –Joxe Long Beard! Jose got really angry. He couldn’t understand why people were so cruel just for fun. Where and how they kept that hate and the strong feeling to hurt someone. It was better to ignore them, and he threw the fishing rod. Suddenly, he heard some screams. Different screams. Screams which were asking for help. And when Joxe Manuel turned round, he saw a terrible scene. All the children were shouting, arms holding high, asking for help. He looked at the sea and he saw two arms holding high. Little Jonander had fallen into the sea and was struggling against the waves. Although he could swim, his thin arms couldn’t fight against the strong waves.There was not time to think so Joxe Manuel dived into the sea. Lots of people gathere in the place soon, trying to help with their shouts. But even if Joxe Manuel was trying really hard, the tide tooki¡ him away from Jonander. Time was going by and there wasnt’ any other choice. He breathed deeply as his lung were giant balloons, and he dived into the water. And even if only a few seconds had gone by, they seemed to be hours. And the sea was becoming rougher. 212
