WELCOME
Welcome to our Easter Weekend Raceday
It was a great day yesterday and today looks equally as good.
Welcome to the Easter Monday, we are excited to see you all on what is set to be a tremendous day and we do hope you had an enjoyable Easter Sunday.
I would like to thank our Partners; BetGoodwin, Southern Cranes and Access Ltd and Strong Flavours for their tremendous support throughout the 2023/24 Season, along with today’s sponsors, Bob Champion Cancer Trust, Gordon & Angela Ashdown, William Hill, David Abraham, The Slater Family and Weatherbys.
Our main sponsor for the Sussex Champion Chase is the Bob Champion Cancer Trust, an organisation that Plumpton has worked with and built a fantastic relationship over a number of years, and we are very grateful to the generosity of the Aldaniti Partnership for sponsoring on the behalf of the Trust. The Trust was established two years after Bob Champion and Aldaniti’s fairytale win in the 1981 Grand National, a true story of triumph over adversity and last year the Trust celebrated 40 years of research having raised in excess of £15m. With recent well documented events, there is still much more to do in fighting this indiscriminate disease and the Bob Champion Cancer Trust is certainly helping lead the way.
We have a cracking 7 race card today, with 59 runners declared worth £100,000 of prize money. Our feature race will be the Bob Champion Cancer Trust Bob Champion Cancer Trust Sussex Champion Chase worth £50,000. Last year we saw Black Jerry, ridden by Jamie Moore beat Captain Tom Cat by one length and this win for Jamie meant he completed the Sussex Champion Hurdle and Champion Chase double over the two-day Festival, a magnificent achievement. The renewal again looks strong, with 7 going to post including last year’s winner Black Jerry.
Many of you know that in February Jamie Moore had to sadly retire from the saddle due to injury. During his career he rode 968 winners including seven wins in Grade 1 races spanning 23 seasons. At Plumpton alone, he won an incredible 112 winners, second only to Sir A P McCoy who rode 145 winners. He has had many great days at Plumpton, non-more fitting than last year at this meeting where he completed the Sussex Champion Hurdle and Chase double. Today, we have named a race in his honour, and I am sure you will join me in wishing Jamie the very best of luck in the future and thank him for many great memories. Please take a few minutes to sign a ‘thank you’ book which will be situated outside the weighing room (only available to Grandstand & Paddock ticket holders).
Our Retired Racehorse Stable was very well received last season and today we are lucky to have Who Dares Win who has run 60 times and has amassed over £360k earnings across both codes (flat and jumps). Who Dares Wins ran at Plumpton in January 2020 finishing second, being denied by a neck. Pop over and give him a polo and a pat.
It is a busy day, and both of our enclosures are open. All of our Family Entertainment is located in the Centre Course so all ticket types have access to these rides and features. We have a map detailing all our activities in the centre pages of the racecard so please take a look. There is plenty going on for all the family besides the 7 fantastic races on course and so all fingers point towards an exciting day.
Looking ahead, we still have two further racedays, Sussex Day, 14th April as well as our Season Finale, Ladies Day on 12th May. General admission tickets start from £15 with hospitality starting from £80 and can be booked or enquired by visiting www.plumptonracecourse.co.uk Happy Easter to you all.
Have a great day at Plumpton, Heart Of The Community.
Best wishes
Craig Staddon Chief Executive

CUSTOMER INFORMATION
Horse Care at Plumpton
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Use of Screens
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by:
Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual contravening these rules will be evicted.

BETTING INFORMATION
A bet can make an already exciting race far more thrilling. Backing your selection with cash and watching your chosen horse win is a great feeling.
1. Pick your winner!
There are many ways that you can pick your selection:
- Many people select a horse based on its name or jockey colours or go to the parade ring and view the horses.
- Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper.
- Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2. Where to place your bet
– In the betting ring, in front of the Grandstands, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.
– With the Tote at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse.
– At the William Hill betting shop, which is identical to a high street betting shop.
3. Place your bet
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet:
– Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after the race is off .
– Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings
– Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards enquiry’. If you have any queries about your bet, please speak to the bookmaker or the Betting Ring Manager.
PLACE TERMS
All Racecourses enforce standard each way terms, in line with Paragraph 2.7.11 of the Terms and Conditions of Entry – Special Conditions E. These terms state that where accepting each-way bets, bookmakers will ensure the terms shall be or shall be better, i.e. more favourable to the customer, than:
(a) for races with fewer than 3 runners – all to win;
(b) for races with 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2;
(c) for races with 5-7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2;
(d) for races with 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3;
(e) for handicap races with 12-15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3;
(f) for handicap races with 16-21 runners (inclusive) 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3-4; and
(g) for handicap races with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3-4,and shall comply with clause 2.7.2 regarding the prominent display of terms.
WHAT IS RULE 4?
Rule 4 is a betting industry-standard deduction that is made on a winning horse bet when there is a non-runner in a race, and you have taken a fi xed price.
If there is a non runner in the race, anyone who backs a non-runner will get their stakes refunded. The Rule 4 exists to make a deduction from your bet to take into account the impact on the betting market of the non runner.
The amount of the deduction varies depending on the price of the non-runner. The Rule 4 deduction is not applied to the stake, only to your winnings.

Official BHA Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

TODAY’S TOP TIPS
Representing the Chris Gordon yard, I’D LIKE TO KNOW was quite taking when opening his account over fences at Newbury last month. The seven-year-old looks just the type who could reach greater heights in this discipline and an 8lb rise in the ratings may not be enough to prevent him from following up. Kotmask’s jumping wasn’t quite up to scratch when falling at Sandown in March, but the son of Masked Marvel warrants respect back over the C&D of his triumph the previous month. Scarface also warrants a second look.
totewin: I’D LIKE TO KNOW
toteeachway: Kotmask
A 6lb rise in the handicap looks on the lenient side for LE BOULEVARDIER, who appeared to score with something in hand over 3m at Ludlow in November. The eight-year-old should relish this extra furlong and he’s taken to make a perfect stable bow for Gary Moore. The biggest threat may emerge from Always Busy, who found only a progressive rival too strong at Taunton last month, while Flemen’s Tipple should prove more competitive on this switch back to hurdles.
totewin: LE BOULEVARDIER toteeachway: Always Busy

RACE
Proper Twelve made it no further than the first fence when falling at Taunton in late November, although he still ranks as a potential improver over staying distances. However, HILLTOWN won’t be lacking for stamina judged on last month’s C&D second and the six-year-old rates a more solid proposition. William Ewart needs to bounce back from a lesser effort when a well-beaten third at Wincanton in March, but Christian Williams’ charge won at Southwell the time before and shouldn’t be far away if running to his best.
totewin: HILLTOWN toteeachway: William Ewart

RACE
This doesn’t look the deepest of contests and so it appears to present SALADINS SON, who finished a creditable seventh in a warm premier handicap at Sandown last month, with a good chance to shed his maiden tag. Kaituna River reached the frame at Doncaster last time out and must be of interest with Harry Cobden aboard for the first time, while Record High could prove to be best of the remainder.
totewin: SALADINS SON
toteeachway: Kaituna River
Things have really clicked into place for MI SUENO, who complemented his Fakenham victory with a 2m success here last month. Paddy Butler’s charge is just 2lb higher today and that is unlikely to prevent him from mounting another stern challenge. Star Of Affinity, Soir De Gala and Berlais Du George all make their handicap debut and must be monitored closely in the betting, while Sanitiser, who caught the eye having travelled strongly into contention at Kempton when last seen in November, is no back number.
totewin: MI SUENO
toteeachway: Paddy Butler
6
RACE
RACE 7
The versatile AGGAGIO didn’t always look a natural chaser on his debut in this sphere when second at Huntingdon in January, but he is in the right hands and ought to have learned greatly from the experience. Open to any amount of progression, Gary Moore’s six-year-old could be a different proposition here. Pearly Island rates a danger despite this trip potentially being on the sharp side, while Toothless is another potential improver to consider on just his second start over fences.
totewin: AGGAGIO
toteeachway: Pearly Island
KEN ROY showed promise on his debut in a Kempton bumper last month and, having had a wind issue addresses since, there could be plenty more to come from the Paul Nicholls-trained gelding. The betting market should be informative as far as the newcomers are concerned, but Mask Of Zorro makes plenty of appeal on paper. Ocean Walz was beaten by just a short head on his racecourse bow in a similar contest at Hereford last month and rates the pick of the rest.

The interest and enthusiasm generated by racing’s greatest fairytale led to the foundation of the Bob Champion Cancer Trust in 1983. Since then the Trust has raised in excess of £15 million.
The Trust opened the Bob Champion Cancer Research Laboratories in 2000, in conjunction with the Institute of Cancer Research, creating the first male dedicated research centre in Europe The Trust’s second facility, the Bob Champion Research and Educational Building, was opened in February 2015 within the campus of the University of East Anglia. It is within these facilities that their current research projects take place on prostate cancer In the UK it has been estimated that one in every 9 men will develop prostate cancer. The incidence of this disease is also increasing and, within the next decade, is set to overtake colon cancer and even lung cancer to become the most common cancer in men. Prostate cancer, therefore, represents a major national health problem

SANITISER wasn’t given a hard time when fourth on his first run over hurdles for this yard at Kempton in November and he is of strong interest here. Next on the list is Soir de Gala, who may well get back on track for his top connections now that he ventures down the handicap route, while the hat-trick seeking Mi Sueno has to enter calculations, too.

Raceday preview from Weatherbys
Weatherbys Print Direct proudly sponsor the concluding race on an excellent card this afternoon at Plumpton,whichisamaidennational hunt flat race won last year by Paul Nicholls’CountryLady.
The champion trainer looks to hold a strong hand here again with Ken Roy, as his third at Kempton on racecourse debut in a similar event sets the standard here. A halfbrother to multiple French winners, thefive-year-oldracedratherkeenly and appeared raw when hanging in theclosingstagesbuttheexperience
Of the unraced contenders, Mask Of Zorro has an interesting profile for Joe Tizzard.
won’t have been lost on him. The eventual winner has run well since, a close second at Fontwell, and Ken Roy holds the ability to win this sort ofcontest.
Ocean Walz was denied just a shorthead on bumper debut at Hereford last month, picking up well from the rear and staying on all the way to the line. Tom Symonds’ fouryear-old left the impression that he willappreciatethisslightlylongertrip and receives weight here from the oldercontenders.Althoughitisworth noting that the third in that Hereford
race was well behind the winner of Ken Roy’s bumper next time at Fontwell, so he has a little bit to find onthebareformalone.
The Emma Lavelle yard has been in fineformoflate,withtwowinnersfrom their last four runners, and the mare Bluey makes her rules debut here. The five-year-old arrives with plenty of experience from points and was mightily impressive when winning at Carrigarosting by over 11 lengths in January. Jumble Jury is also a Point-to-Point winner, victorious on his second start in that sphere, but was far too keen on bumper debut at Chepstow and pulled away any chancewithhisgreenness.NeilKing’s six-year-oldwillnodoubtimprovefor therunherethough.
Of the unraced contenders, Mask Of Zorro has an interesting profile for Joe Tizzard. The four-year-old by Masked Marvel is a half-brother to Dan Skelton’s 131-rated chaser Frere D’Armes and is perhaps one to observe with next season over obstacles in mind. Chris Gordon has a fine record here at Plumpton, operatingatanimpressive29%strike rate at the track this season, and Kalanisi gelding Duke Of Baddesley must therefore merit plenty of respect. The dam was a one-time winner over hurdles and is a halfsister to Grade 1-winning novice chaserUlaanBaatar.
