TONIGHT’S RACING

TONIGHT’S SPONSORS

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse

The first race this evening has an international flavour with seven riders lining up for this leg of the Fegentri World Championship; Gonzalo Pineda Carmena has flown in from Spain for tonight, so we wish him and all the riders the best of luck.

Fegentri was founded in 1955 by a group of enthusiastic amateur riders and has grown over the years to consist of riders from twenty-five different countries. This series of races, one of which we are hosting tonight, is meant to exemplify the best of the riders from each member country; each rider has to qualify to be able to ride and I am sure they are honoured and privileged to be representing their respective countries.

We have an eight-race card in total this evening, so it will be a busy time for all of us. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to the Racing TV members, who we are hosting in the Queen Charlotte marquee. This is a popular annual event for these members and we trust that they will enjoy our hospitality from one of the best seats in the house.

Have a lovely evening.

For more information about any of our upcoming events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

Timeform Rating

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS

Fihrayn has placed on his last couple of starts, including over C&D last time, and will rightly have plenty of supporters, but a chance is taken on APODICTIQUE. Gary and Josh Moore’s French recruit wasn’t beaten far on stable debut at Chepstow in June and she is entitled to improve for that first outing since November 2023. The five-year-old mare could land a telling blow with cheekpieces back on, while Harswell Duke makes up the shortlist.

FIHRAYN has returned to form last 2 starts, finishing runner-up at this C&D a fortnight ago, and he is taken to go one better with Simon Walker booked for the ride. Meadram wasn’t ideally placed when fifth behind the selection here last time, so he might be able to get closer on this occasion, with Harswell Duke another to note from his current mark.

ISAMBARD KINGDOM ran out a decisive winner on his handicap/all-weather debut at Kempton recently and, 5lb well-in under a 6lb penalty, he could take some stopping in his bid to complete the double. The Caddy Master has steadily been progressing as he’s stepped up in trip in maiden/novice company and must enter calculations now stretched out to a mile on his nursery bow. Better was expected of London at Thirsk and she’s not written off just yet.

Lion of Mali makes most appeal of the newcomers, with his dam having won first time out as a two-year-old, but otherwise it’s probably best to concentrate on those with experience. The single best piece of form looks to be HAVANA SMILE’s runner-up effort over 5f at Sandown and he ought to go close with this longer trip expected to suit. Parole Officer and Hakin Adraar also bring solid placed form to the table and rate serious dangers.

PLAY SMARTER

ALKUMATIC SAM made a very bright start at Kempton and can land this maiden with improvement on the cards. Lapidarist should progress also, while Galileo Island can find a race judged on his good Doncaster second.

The Great British Bonus (GBB) incentivises and rewards with breeding, buying and racing of British-bred fillies by paying out bonuses of up to £100,000 per filly And now with GBBPlus to further incentivise staying fillies and chasing mares, there are more reasons than ever to breed, buy and race British. Majority funded by the HBLB.

ARLECCHINO’S REX was well beaten into fifth at Epsom, but the handicapper continues to loosen his grip and Mark Usher’s gelding now lurks on an appealing mark. The son of Belardo looks to have been found a suitable assignment and can return to winning ways. Brother Dave made the frame in a classified stakes at Newcastle and is an interesting contender back in the handicap ranks. Of the remainder, Aspire To Glory makes the most appeal.

INVINCIBLE LOVE produced a much better effort to finish second at Wolverhampton in January and is just 1lb higher Providing the three-year-old can overcome his draw in stall nine on his return, he could be the one to beat. Polar Rebel made the frame on her first start for the Charlie Clover stable before only managing seventh at Lingfield last week, but she is one to note. Rokuni is another to keep an eye on.

If ELSASS is able to get back on track now switched to the all-weather, he could be the answer. Indeed, he pulled nicely clear of the rest when edged out by an odds-on shot on his handicap debut at Doncaster in June and, though not at the same level in two subsequent starts, time is still on his side. Caspian King rates the main danger ahead of Blast The Dream and Live Each Day.
