WELCOME
Welcome to Spring Raceday
With lighter mornings, warmer weather, sunshine and daffodils in full bloom it is great to be in spring and for those that didn’t know, yesterday was the official start of Astronomical spring.
It would be wrong not to mention the Cheltenham Festival from last week, and I would like to congratulate all of our local trainers and owners who made their way to Prestbury Park. With the competition always fierce it is fair to say that our Sussex trainers acquitted themselves very well. It was particularly pleasing to see Stage Star going on to win the Grade 1 Turners Novice Chase, having won here on Sussex National Day this year.
Today we have 34 runners going to post over 6 races with £70k of prize-money up for grabs. Our feature is the 3.35pm LWC Signature Handicap Chase (rated 0-125), and whilst only 5 runners are going to post it is still a competitive race with some great quality on show, non-more so than Sublime Heights who has a course record here of 2F21211.
We are also extremely grateful to Weatherby’s, Molson Coors and Simon McInnes who have kindly sponsored today and appreciate their support and hope they enjoy the day. A further welcome to Molson Coors brand and account managers who have invited 575 people from their key accounts, pub operators and sports clubs for their first day out at Plumpton Racecourse and wish everyone a good time.
We now move into a really busy time of the year for us with 2 days of Easter, 9th & 10th April, Sussex Day, 23rd April as well as our Season Finale, Ladies Day on 14th May. All of these racedays will have lots of activities for friends, families and groups so make sure you book at least one of these racedays. General admission tickets start from £15 with hospitality starting from £75 and can be booked or enquired by visiting www.plumptonracecourse.co.uk
We hope you have a great day with us today look forward to welcoming you back here again soon.
Best wishes
Craig Staddon Chief Executive

CUSTOMER INFORMATION
Horse Care at Plumpton
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Use of Screens
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by:
Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual contravening these rules will be evicted.
On-Course Bookmakers at Plumpton – Late Pay Service
If you need to claim winnings from an on-course bookmaker after a raceday, please send your ticket and covering letter to the following address:

Official BHA Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a suffi cient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confi rmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefi xed by the letter h.
brighton mini-bus
Racegoers are advised that Plumpton Racecourse operates a return mini-bus service from Brighton Train Station on feature and Bank Holiday racedays. The silver, Chariots mini-bus will depart from the designated Coach parking area at the rear of Brighton Station 1½ hours before the scheduled off time of the first race. The return service will depart from the racecourse rear public car park half an hour after the last race. As space is limited, and to avoid disappointment, we recommend that tickets are purchased in advance from our website. Return Fare: £10

BETTING INFORMATION
A bet can make an already exciting race far more thrilling. Backing your selection with cash and watching your chosen horse win is a great feeling.
1. Pick your winner!
Many people select a horse based on its name or jockey colours or go to the parade ring and view the horses. Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2. Where to place your bet
– In the betting ring, in front of the Grandstands, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.
With the Tote at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse.
– At the William Hill betting shop, which is identical to a high street betting shop.
3. Place your bet
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet:
Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after the race is off
– Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings
Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards enquiry’. If you have any queries about your bet, please speak to the bookmaker or the Betting Ring Manager.
PLACE TERMS
All Racecourses enforce standard each way terms, in line with Paragraph 2.7.11 of the Terms and Conditions of Entry – Special Conditions E. These terms state that where accepting each-way bets, bookmakers will ensure the terms shall be or shall be better, i.e. more favourable to the customer, than:
(a) for races with fewer than 3 runners – all to win;
(b) for races with 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2;
(c) for races with 5-7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2;
(d) for races with 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3;
(e) for handicap races with 12-15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3;
(f) for handicap races with 16-21 runners (inclusive) 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3-4; and
(g) for handicap races with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3-4,and shall comply with clause 2.7.2 regarding the prominent display of terms.
WHAT IS RULE 4?
Rule 4 is a betting industry-standard deduction that is made on a winning horse bet when there is a non-runner in a race, and you have taken a fi xed price.
If there is a non runner in the race, anyone who backs a non-runner will get their stakes refunded. The Rule 4 exists to make a deduction from your bet to take into account the impact on the betting market of the non runner.
The amount of the deduction varies depending on the price of the non-runner. The Rule 4 deduction is not applied to the stake, only to your winnings.

LAST MEETING REVIEW
Chris Gordon and Mr Freddie Gordon got proceedings off to a fine start on Monday 13th March, winning the opener by a head to Ah Whisht. The six-year-old recovered well after losing ground after the eighth. The gelding disputed the lead approaching the last and despite not producing a fluent jump, he kept on well to take a narrow lead inside the clsoing stages.
It was a different story in the following race, with the Warren Greatrextrained Bolsover Bill justifying starting as the market favourite, winning by five lengths ahead of Who Is That. They were the only two to finish with Clondaw Robin being pulled up and Hector Jaguen unseating rider Jamie Moore.
It was an emphatic victory for Conkwell Legend in the third race, cruising to an 11 length success over Everything’Sontick in second. The Neil Mulholland-trained nine-year-old led approaching the last and went clear in the run in. Adrian Heskin was on board. Market favourite Le Patron was unable to leave a mark on the race, finishing a length behind second. The Venetia Williams-trained Ramo justified the favourite tag, winning by four lengths ahead of Gerico Ville in the fourth. Charlie Deutsch was on board the six-year-old who made all and despite not being fluent at the last, won comfortably.
Andy Irvine and Philip Armson teamed up to win the penultimate race of the day, edging out River Tyne by half-a-lenght. The seven-year-old kept on in the run-in and was all out but that was enough to fend off the danger from Nick Gifford’s runner.
The final race of another excellent meeting was won in fine style by the Nigel Hawke-trained Inferno Sacree with Tom Buckley on board. The five-year-old gelding went clear in the run-in, winning by nine-and-a-half lengths.
TODAY’S TOP TIPS
Fergal O’Brien boasts a 40% strike-rate (+£27.00 level stakes profit) with his hurdle runners at this venue over the last five seasons and Lutinebella (1.50) is his only runner on today’s card.
LUTINEBELLA is a classy mare, advertised by her third in a Grade 2 bumper at the Aintree Festival last season, and she can bounce back from a lacklustre performance in Listed company at Taunton last time. Marmalaid readily made all at Ffos Las on her latest outing in May last year and she warrants respect on her return to action, while hurdling newcomer Fortuitous Favour adds further spice to the race.
WIN: LUTINEBELLA; DANGER: Marmalaid
Veteran performer PADDY’S POEM made a pleasing return to action when fifth at Huntingdon recently and, dropped in class off a 2lb lower mark, he can mount a bold bid. For Langy continues to creep down the ratings and should make his presence felt, with Micheal Nolan replacing regular rider (and owner) David Maxwell. En Coeur also merits consideration off a light weight.
WIN: PADDY’S POEM; DANGER: For Langy
Val Dancer steps up in trip for his debut in handicap company and makes plenty of appeal, but GERICO VILLE could prove a tough nut to crack. Chris Gordon’s charge has shaped with tons of promise in three starts since the turn of the year and a repeat of his last-time-out second over C&D may suffice. Shandancer looks best of the remaining pair.
WIN: GERICO VILLE; DANGER: Val Dancer
An emphatic winner over C&D on his latest outing, SUBLIME HEIGHTS could prove tough to beat again. He has gone up 8lb for that success but the fact Caoilin Quinn negates most of that rise with his 5lb claim has to make Toby Lawes’ charge of additional interest. Innisfree Lad filled the runner-up spot over 3m7f at Wetherby earlier this month and is feared most, ahead of Eureka Creek.
WIN: SUBLIME HEIGHTS; DANGER: Innisfree Lad
Only narrowly denied over an extended 2m7f at Lingfield last month, FELTON BELLEVUE could benefit from a stiffer stamina test here and can have a big say in proceedings, despite a 2lb raised mark from the aforementioned outing. Gold Clermont has to shoulder a 7lb penalty following a game win over C&D last time but is still feared, while Lakeside Lad also warrants respect.
WIN: FELTON BELLEVUE; DANGER: Gold Clermont
GOOD TIME AHEAD made a pleasing return to action at Lingfield over 2m last month when securing a facile success, albeit off 6lb lower. However, the fact he was able to score by seven lengths suggests a rise of the aforementioned amount will not be enough to stop him following up. Martin Spirit should not be taken lightly arriving off a short break, while Brown Bullet completes the shortlist.
WIN: GOOD TIME AHEAD; DANGER: Martin Spirit

Weatherbys sponsor three races on today’s six-race card, starting with the opening contest, the Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Just five go to post, but the 123-rated Lutinebella sets a fair standard and drops in grade, having finished fourth in a Listed event last time Third behind Ashroe Diamond in the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree last spring, Fergal O’Brien’s seven-year-old has won once from three starts over hurdles and is likely to make a bold bid under Paddy Brennan, especially as the longer trip could bring about further improvement.
Also penalised, Marmalaid won with ease at Ffos Las last May, but has been absent since, whilst Fortuitous Favour has been off the track since finishing down the field behind Queens Gamble in a Listed bumper at Cheltenham in mid-November She finished with a flourish when winning a junior bumper at Wetherby, so should like this longer trip, but she faces a relatively stiff task on her belated hurdling debut.
There are also just five runners in the weatherbysshop.co.uk Handicap Chase, a class 4 0-115 contest, staged over an extended 2m3f. There are just 2lbs between the top four, with course-anddistance winner En Coeur at the foot of the weights. For Langy has been relatively consistent this season and Michael Nolan takes over in the saddle, from owner/rider David Maxwell. Fellow eight-yearold Flagrant Delitiep should appreciate coming back in trip and wears first-time blinkers, whilst the older pair in the field are Paddy’s Poem and Generous Day The former ran quite well for a long way at Huntingdon last time, on what was his first start for 337 days, so he could step forward and run well for Nick Gifford and James Davies. And, the concluding race on the card is the 0-100 Weatherbys Digital Solutions Handicap Hurdle, in which Downsman carries topweight for Jim Boyle. Rated 81 at his peak on the Flat, the son of Fast Company has been beaten in three novices’ hurdles and makes his handicap debut from a mark of 100.
Good Time Ahead is the in-form horse among the eight-strong field, having won at Lingfield last time, for which he has gone up 6lbs. Held-up, he came from off the pace to win quite cosily under Tom Cannon and if able to reproduce that kind of performance, looks sure to run another big race, with Tom Bellamy aboard on this occasion.
Gary Moore won this contest in 2021 and he saddles the four-yearold Executive Pool this time around. Beaten favourite on three of his five starts over hurdles, he has yet to be sent off at odds greater than 9-2, and has been dropped 3lbs for his latest effort at Plumpton in late-January. He receives a 10lbs age-allowance from his elders, whilst Brown Bullet is the sole course-and-distance winner in the field.

PLAY SMARTER
This is likely to boil down to a straight fight between MARMALAID and Lutinebella, unless bumper winner Fortuitous Favour improves markedly for the switch to hurdles following a break. On all known form, Lutinebella should be winning this but Marmalaid is something of an unknown quantity for the Nicky Henderson yard and, at the probable prices, she is the more appealing betting proposition.

PLAY SMARTER
None of these look especially solid but, that said, PADDY’S POEM is appealing on the back of an encouraging reappearance at Huntingdon, an effort which suggested that this 12-y-o is more than capable of capitalising on the handicapper’s mercy (now 19lb lower than for his last success at Wincanton in March 2021). For Langy has the ability to feature, particularly if settling better than he did at Ludlow last time, but Generous Day may pose the biggest threat to the selection.

In Loving Memory of Mac and Marian McInnes
Mac and Marian McInnes were long standing Plumpton members, who took great delight in watching the horses that turned out at the course almost as often as they did. The traditional 0-100 handicap hurdle tended to be a favourite race as it would feature many repeat contenders/offenders. They travelled all over the country to visit jumps courses, but Plumpton was home. The family and friends of Mac and Marian who are gathered here today wish everyone a good day, and hope that you get as much enjoyment from a typical Plumpton midweek meeting as they did.

PLAY SMARTER
It could be worth chancing VAL DANCER, who did the job well when opening his account in a Bangor novice in November and, though safely held both starts since, he appeals as the type to get back on track now pitched into a handicap off what looks a realistic opening mark. Gerico Ville is likely to be a warm order having found just one too good off this mark over C&D last week and he is the clear main danger ahead of Shandancer.

Probable S.P’s: 9-4 Good Time Ahead (IRE), 4-1 Martin Spirit (IRE), 11-2 Executive Pool (GB), 6-1 Downsman (IRE), 15-2 Brown Bullet (IRE), 10-1 Pump It Up (GB), 66-1 Yesnosorry (IRE), 150-1 Shirocco’s Delight (IRE)
Though he’s failed to shine in a trio of starts over hurdles so far, dual Flat winner
DOWNSMAN appears to have been brought along with handicaps in mind. He is now pitched into one off what looks a feasible opening mark and improvement should be forthcoming with the headgear back on. Good Time Ahead returned to form with a bang at Lingfield last time and is feared most ahead of Brown Bullet and Executive Pool.
TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.DOWNSMAN (IRE) 2.GOOD TIME AHEAD (IRE) 3.BROWN BULLET (IRE)
