Welcome to our Sky Sports Racing November Raceday.
We’re right into the jump season proper now with the November Meeting at Cheltenham taking place this weekend and the Southern National yesterday at Fontwell. Amazingly after 245mm of rain since our last fixture, the chase course is still largely Good in its going description, which you just couldn’t have predicted. However, the grass covering remains lush and the moisture has seeped further down now so we should see some lovely racing ground during the winter months, although you do have amonth to wait before seeing us again on Monday 12th December.
Our last fixture saw some real quality on show with Mullenberg easing home in the Mares’ Hurdle (having previously won alisted bumper at Cheltenham), Scarface winning his first race over obstacles after being a big money purchase for the Tizzard team (he’d run in grade 1’s already) as well as probably the performance of the day from Lord Baddesley in the £26k feature cruising home by 9lengths. He’d previously been second to Knappers Hill and 4th in aBetfair Hurdle and so maybe amark of 124 was alittle light! We’ve got some really interesting and competitive racing today, including two Irish raiders from Charles Byrne who lets Grozni (12.40pm) and Wajaaha (1.40pm) take their chances. Despite Irish winners popping up seemingly everywhere, our last Irish winner was Sweet Destination who won on 5th November 2018. (This was the third of only 3Irish winners at Plumpton).
Today also marks the first use of our retired racehorse stable and we welcome Watergate Bay to the fold, who has been expertly re-trained by Harriet Colderick to become an ROR Elite Eventing Champion in 2018 and was also the winner of the ROR Blenheim Novice Dressage Championships 2022. In his previous career he was trained by Paul Nicholls firstly and then Chris &Jenny Gordon so please do go and say hello to him and Harriet and learn about his life after racing.
Have agreat day today and let’s hope you pick out some winners!
Best Wishes, Dan

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a suffi cient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make anumerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. Ahorse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than ahorse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confi rmed. Any subsequently published change to arating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefi xed by the letter h.

Mullenbeg justified her market support with acomfortable 10 length victory in the opener. Shelikesthelights and Mistral Lady completed the top three. The Milton Harris-trained five-year-old led clearly after the fourth and kept on well to seal the victory.
It was even more comfortable in the following race with short-priced favourite Scarface winning by 16 lengths ahead of Heaven Smart. Scarface went clear after three out and was never in any danger of relinquishing his lead. Trainer Joe Tizzard saw his runner finish second in the first race but he got off the mark on the day in the second.
The theme of comfortable wins continued in the third race with another favourite in the form of Atakan winning by 10 lengths. The remainder of the four-runner field were no match for the winner who made all and stayed on well. This win secured adouble for both Tizzard and Brendan Powell.
The fourth race saw yet another favourite seal the honours in the form of Lord Baddesley with jockey Harry Cobden sealing adouble having won the opener. The seven-yera-old was pushed along to lead when two out and despite not being fluent at the last, he kept on well to win by nine and ahalf lengths.
Wide winninng margins continued to be atheme in the 2:55 with Sublime Heights winning by eight lengths with En Coeur in second. The Toby Lawes-trained Sublime Heights was prominent and was pushed along through the home turn before taking the lead when two out. Lawes admitted the six-year-old reaped the benefits of first-time cheekpieces. It was amuch closer affair in the penultimate race of the day with Caramelised winning for Alan King. Gavin Sheehan was on board as the four-year-old finished alength and three quarters ahead of Brown Bullet. Another excellent day of racing was then completed with Warranty winning for trainer Gary Moore and jockey Caolin Quinn. Warranty went clear after three out and kept on well to complete anine length success over San Pedro.
Lord Baddesley clears the last en route to aconvincing victory in the £26k feature under Harry Cobden.Chris Gordon has his string in excellent form at the moment and last season he operated at a29% strike-rate with his chasers at Plumpton. Today he saddles Blade Runner in the At The Races App Form Study Handicap Chase at 3.10.
WHYDAH GALLY was last seen winning anovice hurdle over the extended 2m5f at Fontwell in March and amark of 124 looks workable here. He has a250-day layoff to overcome, but his trainer has been firing in the winners of late. Brief Times has filled her runner-up berth on his last three starts, including over 2m at Uttoxeter 17 days ago, and should give another good account. Dom Of Mary is another to consider.
WIN: WHYDAH GALLY; DANGER: Brief Times
Charles Byrnes sends over GROZNI from his Limerick base and the six-year-old can make sure connections don’t go home empty handed. He ran out acomfortable winner of a2m7f handicap at Punchestown last month and arepeat of that form should suffice in this novice contest. He is unproven with cut in the ground, though, and Heaven Smart, who was second in asimilar C&D event afortnight ago, could be athreat along with Scamallach Liath.
WIN: GROZNI; DANGER: Heaven Smart
It’s interesting that Charles Byrnes crosses the Irish Sea to give WAJAAHA his return to hurdles and he could prove tough to beat. He’s fit from aFlat campaign and showed plenty of promise as anovice hurdler in 2020, so he should prove too hot for his rivals in this seller if he retains that ability. City Derby can prove the main threat if back on song, while Albert Van Ornum and China Princess are noted too.
WIN: WAJAAHA; DANGER: City Derby
LE COEUR NET won this in 2020 off amark 13lb higher than he faces here and although the going will be faster now, he cannot be ignored at acourse he loves, with two wins and five second spots from nine starts here. Darebin needs to bounce back to his best to win this but is potentially well handicapped if he does, while Dame du Soir is adecent sort but is proving difficult to win with.
WIN: LE COEUR NET; DANGER: Darebin
Gerico Ville can go close, but top weight for amaiden over hurdles seems abig ask and he may have to settle for aplace. Baddesley looks capable of winning another race and should be better suited by the drop back to this trip, but STORM HILL is the pick. A40/1 winner here in February, he was going well enough before falling four out at Warwick at the start of this month and may make amends for that now.
WIN: STORM HILL; DANGER: Baddesley
Even on good ground the marathon trip facing the chasers here will ask questions of some of them, but hopefully not BLADE RUNNER, who ran on well over 3m2f when second here last month. Afirst-time visor may help him go one better today, with Game Line possibly his biggest danger after asolid second at Cartmel in July. Largy Nights scored over asimilar distance at Stratford when last seen in April but has a5lb rise to contend with on his return.
WIN: BLADE RUNNER; DANGER: Game Line
Caoilin Quinn was accomplished in the saddle when he rode awinner over 2m4f here for his boss Gary Moore last month and his 7lb claim can be abig asset as BEAUFORT WEST bids to defy top weight. The gelding ,who was returning from abreak when agood third in that aforementioned race, should strip fitter for the run and looks the most solid option. The Tin Miner and Universal Island complete the shortlist.
WIN: BEAUFORT WEST; DANGER: The Tin Miner
