Ayr Racecard - Monday 18th August

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse and whether you are a first time racegoer or a seasoned racing enthusiast I hope you have an enjoyable experience with us today.

We hold our second evening Flat fixture of 2025 tonight featuring six races and I’d like to thank our owners and trainers for choosing to run their horses here tonight. Our very own Ayr Racecourse Racing Club horses Penelope’s sister and Sophiesticate are running tonight and I wish all connections the best of luck.

All roads after tonight lead to the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup meeting on 18-20 September and we were delighted when Ladbrokes agreed to sponsor this prestigious meeting for the next three years. We have a fantastic number of entries, 263, for the early closing Gold Cup race itself which looks like it’s going to be a fantastic renewal. We also have the most amazing after race entertainment including Martin Kemp as well as fantastic prizes in the Style awards on the Friday fixture.

After racing we have Paul Skully playing in Western House please feel free to pop down and enjoy the entertainment.

I would also like to thank all of our staff for the hard work and effort that goes into providing a raceday

Don’t forget our next meeting... THURSDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER

9 Form guide 10 Age 11 Weight 12 Stalls Position

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - JASON HART

Hawick-born Jason reached a notable career landmark last week when he rode his 1000th career winner at Beverley and the former champion apprentice topped that total up in the very next race by riding winner number 1001. The jockey was on the mark on both days of our Saturday/Monday fixtures here last weekend and he went on to Hamilton on Tuesday to ride the double which set up the 1000 celebrations at Beverley on Thursday The jockey heads to York later this week with his usual strong book of rides on the Knavesmire and his recent Goodwood Group 2 winner JM Jungle will be on of his best hopes of big-race glory in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes on Friday

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - MIKE SMITH

Mike was back amongst the winners here at Ayr last Monday when Cisco Disco recorded a first win in 20 starts going back to October 2023 under a no-nonsense ride from David Allan. The 7 year-old is back in search of a follow up here under Andrew Mullen in the 10 furlongs handicap at 6.15 and a 4lbs penalty would not have stopped him winning 7 days ago. Mike also runs Zebra Star in the same race under Shane Gray and the Galston-based handler starts the evening by running his 4-times winning hurdler Just Dottie in the maiden race for fillies and mares at 5.45 Mike has 3 more runners on the night with the main attraction being his evergreen veteran Glasses Up (8.15) which continues to hold the post-war record for the number of wins here at Ayr with 11 successes.

A winner at York last month and not beaten too far at Hamilton last time out, the veteran ABERAMA GOLD still retains plenty of ability and this looks like an ideal opportunity with the stable in top form of late. Now in the hands of trainer Julie Camacho after breaking the maiden over 5f at Bath in June, Pianoforte is of interest on his handicap debut, as well as Kelpie Grey. totewin: Aberama Gold

RACE RESULT DISTANCES

This can go the way of BILLY BATHGATE, who has been a consistent sort this season and performed with plenty of credit last time out when second over a furlong further at Redcar. A mark of 51 still looks manageable and he is narrowly preferred to Irish raider Waystar, who is best judged on her penultimate effort at Navan when fourth over this distance. Annandale and Glasses Up are noted as well.
