How
There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

LIVE AFTER RACING
The Bridget Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, run over seven furlongs at Newbury Racecourse since 1987, is sponsored in perpetuity by her family in memory of Bridget Fetherston-Godley.
Bridget was a passionate racegoer as well as being a successful owner and breeder, with an encyclopaedic recall of thoroughbred blood lines, and she would be thrilled so many winners of her race have proven to be of high calibre.
She spread her knowledge and enthusiasm for flat racing to her family, in particular to her husband and to her son, who was a successful racehorse trainer for many years.

Whether it is on the golfing greens, the tennis courts, the racecourse or even the high-seas, sponsorship and the support of international events has been an integral part of Dubai Duty Free’s marketing strategy since 1983. And more than just marketing the company itself, these sporting endeavors have also helped to propel global perception of the emirate.
The 2025 sporting ‘season’ began in January with the Hero Dubai Desert Classic which was won by Englishman Tyrrell Hatton. As a patron sponsor of the tournament, Dubai Duty Free took part in the Pro-AM competition and entertained a number of guests in style at the Emirates Golf Club.
The recently concluded Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, which is owned and organised by Dubai Duty Free, went fantastically well.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the 33rd anniversary of the Championships which took place from 16th February –1st March was won by Mirra Andreeva, who became the youngest player to win a WTA 1000 title. While Stefanos Tsitsipas, claimed his maiden ATP 500 title.
Much awareness is also created by the operation’s involvement in horse racing and Dubai Duty Free regularly flies the flag in the UK at Newbury Racecourse for the start of the flat race season with the Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Weekend on 11th – 12th April.
Meanwhile the world’s premier international jockeys’ challenge, the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup, is to be held at Ascot on 9th August and will bring together top riders, male and female, from the world’s top racing nations competing for a prize unique within the sport.
The operation is also the title sponsor of one of the biggest races in Europe, the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, which will be held at the Curragh Racecourse on 29th June.
Back in the UK, the operation will return to Newbury Racecourse for the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend from 19th – 20th September.
Other sports to benefit from Dubai Duty Free’s support include the Dubai International Basketball Championship.
