It
gives me great pleasure to welcome all our Annual Members to Haydock Park on our Easter Saturday Fixture.
Always a thoroughly competitive day’s racing, it features Challenger Finals and the Tim Molony Memorial Handicap Chase. Tim rode the winners of one Gold Cup, two Champion Chases and four Champion Hurdles in consecutive years from 1951-54. He was champion jockey on four occasions and amazingly bought Red Rum as a yearling. He died in 1989
Kirkland Tellwright, our Clerk of the Course retires today. It is impossible to list the advancements made at Haydock Park under his diligent stewardship from the creation of the Betfair Chase, to a flat course now the envy of the racing world and so much in between. After 24 brilliant years and on behalf of all Haydock Park members, we wish Kirkland a well-deserved long and happy retirement.
Our next meeting, after reciprocals at Newmarket and Stratford amongst others is on the flat, four weeks today, under the expert directors of our new clerk, Daniel Cooper A thoroughly busy and scintillating summer at Haydock Park awaits
I wish you an enjoyable and successful afternoon
As part of our joint commitment to each other and the communities in which we operate, all racegoers should be aware of the Code of Conduct and observe the following whilst at our Racecourse.
For the safety of other racegoers and racecourse staff, please consider wearing a face covering in busy indoor areas or outside where social distancing cannot be maintained.
If you feel you may be experiencing any of the recognised symptoms of Covid-19, please put on a face covering and speak to a member of staff in a well ventilated area. It is best to travel home if it is safe to do so
Regularly wash your hands, use hand sanitiser and avoid touching your face and dispose of any used tissues appropriately.
Familiarise yourself with your entry point and the location of amenities within the racecourse.
We are operating a cashless event. On-course bookmakers/pool betting operators may accept cash
Enjoy the vast amounts of space around the racecourse and avoid congregating in busy areas (for example, along the rail or by the Winning Post).
Make sure all walkways, corridors and doorways etc are clear before you walk through.
Follow all signage and the instructions of staff, officials or any emergency service personnel present at the racecourse.
Make sure other members of your group have read and understood these guidelines
Thank you so much for your continued support and co-operation
We hope you have a wonderful day with us

Aquick wayto see a horse’s past performance. These are its recent finishing positions.
Look out for Letters:
C = Has won at this course
D = Has won over this distance
CD = Has won over this distance at this course
BF = Was a beaten favourite
MORE INFORMATION ON THE FORM
- = New racing season
/ = Missed racing season
P = Was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race
F = Horse fell
U = Rider unseated
R = Horse refused to race
CO = The horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse
B = Horse was brought down
S = Horse slipped
r = The horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race
d = Disqualified
Bold form
figures = performance in all-weather (Flat) or Point-to-Point (Jump) races
How the experts rate the horse’s chances:
2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse.
3. Timeform view and TFR rating
Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race.
Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.
6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey
7. Saddlecloth number
8. Horse’s name
9. Birthplace of horse
10. Days since the horse last run
11. Horse’s age
12. Jockey’s weight (stone and lbs)
13. The horse’s breeding – father (sire) and mother (dam)
14. Horse’s owner
15. Horse’s breeder
16. Sponsor
Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.
Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.
Weatherbys proudly sponsors the opening mares’ maiden hurdle on this afternoon’s seven-race card, a contest whichwaswonin2023byGoldenGlance, with Jonjo O’Neill’s All The Glory – winner of last weekend’s valuable EBF Mares’ FinalatNewbury–backinthird.
Disco Daisy has to be greatly respected with the bench not set excessively high.
A maximum of five will go to post for this year’s renewal, including Disco Daisy who has been off for 133 days and has yet to race over hurdles. Emma Lavelle’s daughter of Mukhadram stayed on dourly to beat Chosen Hero (won over hurdles this season) at Chepstow and returnedtoactionwithaneighthplacing in Listed company, behind Baby Kate at Cheltenham in November. The six-yearold ran well for a long way and should appreciate stepping up in distance over hurdles, so whilst she lacks experience, has to be greatly respected with the benchnotsetexcessivelyhigh.
The Venetia Williams-trained Reely Delightful is another who makes her hurdlingdebutonbelatedreappearance andislikelytobecapableofmuchbetter than she showed when last of eight at Bangor-on-Dee11monthsago.
Local trainer Donald McCain saddles two intherace,withChatshowHostdropping
in both class and distance, having contested a Listed event at Doncaster last time. The daughter of Soldier Of Fortune finished runner-up over 3m at Musselburgh in January and is officially rated103.Comingbackintripwouldlook to be a positive, although given her Irish Point-to-Point form, the seven-yearold might improve once meeting better groundlaterintheyear.
Stable-mate Idylle Sauvage is another Irish Points winner – albeit she was successful on heavy ground at Ballyraggetayearago–andshefinished fifth at Uttoxeter on her hurdling debut in late-November, where she ran well for a long way before being left behind by the front two. The winner, Little Miss Dante, is rated 122, runner-up Party Vibes won her next two and is now rated 121 (finished 5th behind All The Glory at Newbury last week) and the third Lady In The Park also won next time and is rated 112. If she can build on that form, the daughter of Coastal Path certainly wouldn’t be without a chance, especially as she should cope with the ground and ought toappreciatethelongertrip.
Anthony Honeyball’s Ask Lileen is the other possible runner, although having beenwell-beatenatFontwellonThursday, herparticipationwouldbeseeminsome doubt. Prior to that handicap debut, she had finished fourth in a couple of similar events to this, but it is her Point-to-Point form which stands out, with the sevenyear-old having beaten Grade 1 winner AppleAway,backinFebruary2022.

NUMITOR shaped with bags of enthusiasm on his recent return at Exeter and, having slipped further in the weights, he makes a fair amount of appeal. Champagne Mystery shaped very well in a hot Cheltenham handicap on his penultimate start and is a big player on his first foray into veterans company, with Riders Onthe Storm also feared following an encouraging run at Doncaster 4 weeks ago

Today’s fixture plays host to the Unibet Middle Distance Veterans’ finale, which has been created to generate more opportunities for quality 10-year-old-plus chasers who might have found winning chances limited in other valuable races. The Jockey Club has also supported the race by funding a £10,000 bonus to any horse that wins the race and has also won another race in the series earlier on this season.
One horse, Le Ligerien, meets that criteria and is part of a ten horse field with jockey Brendan Powell on board. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled at 3.15pm to see whether the bonus is triggered on top of the £100,000 prize money on offer!
Our thanks go to Unibet for their continued support, and we look forward to the series expanding in 2024/25.
We would once again like to welcome the family of the late Tim Molony, five-time champion jump jockey, with a race named in his honour today.
• Born 14th September 1918 at Rathmore, Croom, Co Limerick, Eire
• Died 14th December, 1989
• Son of Captain William Molony MC (Royal Munster Fusiliers) A farmer, horse breeder, trainer and amateur jockey who owned and trained Hill Of Camas to win the 1915 Galway Plate.
• Elder brother of Martin Molony Champion NH & Flat jockey in Ireland and runner-up to Tim in Britain in 1949/50 NH championship.
• Educated: Mongret College, Limerick (shared a desk with Vincent O’Brien).
• Leading Amateur NH Jockey in Ireland: 1936 - 39
• Told by the Irish Turf Club to go professional as he was taking the bread and butter out of the mouths of the professionals. Didn’t wish to ride as a professional in Eire so came to the UK where there was more racing
• Champion NH Jockey Britain 5 times: 1948-49 (60 winners), 1949-50 (95 winners), 1950-51 (83 winners), 1951-52 (99 winners), 1954-55 (67 winners)
• Career total as British professional: 866 wins First NH jockey to achieve 500, 600, 700 & 800 winners. Total career wins circa 986
• First Winner in Britain: Bricett, owned by his mother Mrs Kitty Molony
• Four consecutive Champion Hurdles (still a record): 1951 Hatton’s Grace, 1952, 1953 and 1954 Sir Ken.
• Cheltenham Gold Cup: 1953 Knock Hard.
• Other big race wins: Notably 3 Sefton Chases, 3 Great Yorkshire Chases and 2 Champion Chases. The Grand National was the only top NH race in Britain and Ireland to elude him - he only finished placed
• Favourite course: Haydock Park He once went through the card here and we are delighted again to stage an annual race in his memory this afternoon
• Shared a plane with his brother Martin to help get round the courses, until it crashed with them on board
• Was said to be one of the first jockeys to ring round trainers for rides and became known as Telephone Tim.
• Only a major fall finished his career He broke his femur, ribs and dislocated his shoulder in a tumble at Uttoxeter in 1959 Was also known as the rubber man (his theory being to stay on until the horse hit the ground, as you didn’t have as far to fall).
• After retirement from the saddle became a trainer at Wymondham Manor, Leicestershire from 1960 to 1981 Had some success for a small yard with an average of 20 in training each year with placed horses in Group 3’s and winning handicaps such as the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar

We have agreed with our vets that the screen should be erected, whenever a horse requires veterinary treatment on the course. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards
