Our feature race this evening is the Listed Chelmer Stakes, which is a six furlong sprint for three year old fillies. This race has produced several future stars in recent years, such as Happy Romance, Pandora’s Gift and Believing, who won the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint last month at Meydan.
Arabian Dusk, who won the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes last year, is the highest rated filly in the race, representing the Simon and Ed Crisford stable. Lady with the Lamp, representing Ireland, from the Joseph O’Brien stable is a dual listed race winner and must be respected. Two runners have travelled over from France: Wewilldanceagain is a two-time winner on the AW and trained by Francis Graffard, and Spirit d’Or, trained by Gavin Hernon won the valuable Tattersall Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes at the Curragh last year.
Tonight’s race promises to be a great spectacle with twelve runners and a truly international field. We look forward to seeing who comes out on top and to watching their career unfold over the rest of the year.
Have a lovely evening.

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BEAULD AS BRASS appeared to have plenty in hand when winning a similar event under this rider at Lingfield last week and the five-year-old merits the utmost respect, despite a 5lb penalty. This is a very competitive event and Meadram is another with strong form claims following his C&D success in March. Egoiste edges out Life On The Rocks to be the pick of the remainder.

KURAKKA confirmed the promise he displayed on debut at Kempton in November when finishing third at the same venue on his next outing. Alan King’s colt should have more to offer as a three-year-old and he tops the shortlist. Respond cost 130,000gns as a yearling and should not be underestimated on his racecourse bow. Altareq wasn’t disgraced in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket and is another to note.

Dropping back to 6f looks just what the doctor ordered for ARABIAN DUSK, who failed to stay but ran with plenty of credit in the Nell Gwyn. Last year’s Group 2 winner ARABIAN DUSK has a handy inside stall and gets the vote on the back of a reappearance run which suggests she retains all her ability and will be ideally suited by this return to 6f. Dual listed winner Lady With The Lamp is another who has fared well with the draw and that makes her second choice over Star of Mehmas, who has to overcome stall 12

MONSIEUR BEAULIEU has held his form so well through the winter and into the spring, and looks to have been found a nice opportunity on the drop in grade. The booking of Jim Crowley catches the eye and Nick Littmoden’s charge may have too much for Bishop’s Crown, who didn’t shape badly on his return at Kempton recently. A comfortable winner at Haydock on his comeback last year, Baba Reza must also enter calculations for his in-form yard.

BISHOP’S CROWN failed to justify market support on his return from 6 months off at Kempton, but back down to his last winning mark with cheekpieces refitted, he may be able to get the job done this time. Next best is Baba Reza who made a winning reappearance last season, with Tom Marquand an eye-catching jockey booking, while Fiscal Policy is another who goes well fresh.

A three-month break did the trick for Southwell scorer Noble Consort and he must enter the reckoning. However, a 6lb higher mark does demand a career-best performance and it could be worth taking a chance on the up-in-distance DARK SIDE PRINCE. The son of Equiano hasn’t attempted 6f since July 2020, but his latest staying-on third here suggests that it’s worth revisiting. Handicap debutant Instant Bond is also noted.

Having posted his best effort to date when a staying-on fourth over 6f here a week ago, MY BOY HARRY makes most appeal. The son of Massaat should relish the extra furlong and he’s marginally preferred to Lady Shinto. An opening mark of 46 for Charlie Wallis’ filly could prove on the lenient side and it will be interesting to see how she fares in the market. Aim For The Bull is the pick of the remainder
