Barry Johnson Today we pause to remember Barry Johnson who sadly passed away on Christmas Day. Barry was a part of Devon & Exeter Racecourse’s fabric with over 38 years’ service from 1981 to 2019. Starting as a grounds person then moving his way up to head groundsman, holding that role for seven years, until he eventually took up the role of Clerk of the course. He oversaw the track for the best part of seventeen years and was here through the transition of the buyout by The Jockey Club where he eventually also oversaw Wincanton Racecourse in a dual role. Please join us today before the ﬁrst race where we will have a minute’s silence to remember Barry and all the hard work and dedication, he gave to Exeter Racecourse. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Barrys family, his partner Julie and two children Matt and Ellie who have joined us today.
