Dress Code Smart dress is encouraged for both restaurants. Gentlemen are required to wear a collared shirt, jacket and tie in the Club Restaurant & Lounge. If the appropriate clothing is not worn you will be asked to leave the enclosure.

In the Fairwood restaurant, smart casual attire is acceptable, no trainers are permitted.

Casual wear is permitted within the Sports Bar but we ask you to refrain from wearing club replica shirts at Chelmsford City Racecourse. Shirts must be worn at all times.

Tailored shorts are acceptable for general admission only, but no shorts are to be worn within the hospitality areas. No sports shorts or flip flops are permitted, along with no team shirts.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

The surface has been expertly rewaxed and enhanced with added fibre to reduce kickback and improve safety. Additionally, the pedestrian crossing over the track was replaced early on with an underpass from the ticket office to the concourse, ensuring a safer experience for both horses and racegoers.

Every raceday, three qualified equine vets are on duty, closely monitoring the action and ready to respond within moments should an incident occur.

We always maintain two equine ambulances and three for jockeys on-site, supported by permanent veterinary boxes and, during major fixtures, on-site X-ray facilities for swift diagnosis and care.

Hydration and recovery are also carefully managed, with ample water and multiple washdown stations available to help horses cool down immediately after racing.

Chelmsford City Racecourse works with the British Horseracing Authority, Great British Racing, RSPCA, World Horse Welfare, and the Horse Welfare Board to champion world-class equine care. British Racing has invested over £56 million since 2000 in veterinary research and education, improving safety for all horses—not just racehorses. CITY SELECTIONS Allegrino put a lacklustre debut effort behind her to finish an excellent second at Kempton and, with the prospect of more to come, she is entitled to go very close. However, there was lots to like about EVENEPOEL’s introductory performance. Archie Watson’s charge kept on well from an unpromising position and progress in anticipated, not least because a step up in trip should suit.

Gennadius sets the standard with an official rating of 70 and is likely to be on the premises.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES In the event of an incident occurring which necessitates the partial or total evacuation of any area of the racecourse, announcements will be broadcast over the public address system. Our staff, aided by the uniformed security will implement the carefully planned evacuation procedures and undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety. 6. Entry to the racecourse is restricted to persons of over 18 unless accompanied by an adult. Persons aged 16 and under may only enter the Parade Ring (if holding an appropriate Owners badge) with an adult, and no-one of 12 years of age and under may enter the Parade Ring or Winners Enclosure in any circumstances.

7. Chelmsford City Racecourse reserves the right to refuse admission or eject any race-goer whose conduct is unacceptable or compromises the safety of race-goers, participants and horses. There will be no refunds for day tickets or annual badges when the holder has been asked to leave in these circumstances.

8. Annual badges will be numbered and are non-transferable. We reserve the right to request secondary identification material from annual badge and season-ticket holders.

9. No refunds will be given for badges, tickets or pro rata amounts of annual memberships and season tickets that are purchased but not used, except if racing is abandoned in the circumstances detailed below.

Chelmsford City Racecourse may abandon racing when directed by the British Horseracing Authority, the police or emergency services, or in any emergency or other exceptional circumstances beyond our reasonable control. If racing is abandoned, day ticket refunds will be applied as follows: Abandonment before completion of the first race – full refund; Abandonment up to the third race 50%; Abandonment other than as above – no refund.
