Winter has arrived with a vengeance this evening, but we are looking forward to being able to offer you nine exciting and competitive races. Please head to our Grandstand with its three distinct areas, which, we hope, are able to offer you the experience that suits your needs best. Upstairs, in the Club Restaurant, we can offer you a full dining experience with exquisite cuisine and panoramic views of the racecourse; downstairs, in the Fairwood Brasserie, there is a magnificent buffet in a more informal environment or you can pick up a quick bite of something to eat, as well as a drink in the Sports Bar. Wherever you choose to spend the evening, we trust that you will have an enjoyable evening and that you manage to find one or two winners.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

VILLALOBOS rates as an obvious selection in this company, having gone close from his mark at Lingfield last month and still having had less racing in handicaps than most he meets here Red Evelyn and Graffiti ran respectably on their latest outings and should be in the shake up if in similar form.

This looks the stronger of the two divisions. GEORGE RIDSDALE was unlucky not to win at Lingfield last time and still looks well treated on his best form, so is taken to overcome the widest draw and notch his first success since 2020 Patrick Millman gets a good tune out of Master Grey and he can go well again, with Bascinet also considered for Eve Johnson Houghton.
OK PAL ran a race full of promise on his handicap debut here early last month and should relish this step up to 7f. The Tony Carroll-trained inmate rates the one to beat if overcoming a wide draw Skyblue Expert wasn’t quite at his best when last seen finishing fifth at Wolverhampton, but did run well on his sole appearance here and merits consideration. Attrazione is another to note.

ATTRAZIONE confirmed the promise of her Newcastle effort and was arguably a shade unlucky not to win when finishing runner-up at Wolverhampton 3 weeks ago, short of room/forced to switch and going down narrowly She gets the nod to come out on top, with Ok Pal, who may well appreciate the step up in trip, nursery-debutante Cahore Retreat and Skyblue Expert heading up the dangers.

The stronger of the divisions on paper in which BEELZEBUB is fancied to make it third time lucky after leaving his debut effort behind switched to a synthetic surface at Lingfield recently Second choice is Fierce, who is getting better with each run and should be capabale of making his presence felt back in this company Baahill and Popular Dream both have plenty to recommend them on paper so they’re both worth a market check.
An open contest in which preference is for THE X O. John Ryan’s inmate kept on well for second on his racecourse bow at Lingfield in May and the nature of that run left the impression there was plenty more to come. Tawalla is related to some smart types and can give a good account on debut, while Umming N’ Ahing is another to note.

THE X O has been absent since finishing runner-up at Lingfield in the spring but he impressed with his strength at the finish for hands-and-heels riding and he can confirm the promise of that run and come out on top on return. Demi Pointe looked in need of the experience on her respective debut at Goodwood in May and is a likely improver for her leading yard. Newcomer Tawalla and Umming N’ Ahing complete the shortlist.

DARWELL LION caught the eye when securing a good victory at Lingfield when last seen in January. He remains relatively unexposed and a 8lb raised mark may not be enough to hold him back, so he should not be taken lightly on his return to action. Intuitive has to merit consideration in first-time cheekpieces, while Excel Power completes the shortlist.
ARAIFJAN has been in good nick of late, finishing in the first two home on his last three outings, and the five-year-old gets the nod. After showing a willing attitude to make all at this venue last time out, he can defy a penalty. Marwari has reigned supreme on three of his last four appearances and rates the main danger. Ramdon Rocks is another to consider.

HIT MAC took a step forward in form terms despite still looking a little rough around the edges when runner-up on handicap debut at Lingfield (5f) 8 days ago and, with the prospect of more to come back up at 6f, he could be the answer. Alafdhal arrives on the back of his best effort of the year when scoring over C&D recently and rates a big player under a penalty. Araifjan and Marwari can also figure.

DECLARED RUNNERS 12 2021: LEGENDE D’ART (IRE) 4 8 6 Christian Howarth 4-1 (Henry Spiller) 12 ran Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn first time by No. 6. Hood worn by No. 1. Visor worn by No. 11 Tongue Strap worn by No. 8. Blinkers, Tongue Strap worn by No. 3, 9. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No. 4. Stewards Note:
CAVALLUCCIO: Following its run on 19/11/2022 it was reported that the horse was slowly away CHAMPAGNE SUPANOVA: Following its run on 20/8/2022 it was reported that the horse hung right handed throughout.
Probable S.P’s: 9-2 Cavalluccio (IRE), 7-1 Silks Pass (GB), Deacs Delight (GB), 15-2 Luna Queen (GB), 9-1 Champagne Supanova (IRE), 11-1 Healing Power (GB), Full Intention (GB), Good Humor (GB), 14-1 Weloof (FR), Port Noir (GB), 28-1 Holdenhurst (GB), 100-1 Jazz Music (GB) PLAY
This looks tricky but LUNA QUEEN dispelled a pair of lesser efforts when third over this trip at Lingfield 3 weeks ago and, with cheekpieces replacing blinkers, she could be the answer Cavalluccio did himself no favours with a slow break on yard debut latest but had shaped encouragingly here previously and he’s not discounted, along with Deacs Delight.
Far Horizon got off the mark at the third time of asking at Lingfield, getting his head in front in the dying strides. Stepping into handicap company, he warrants consideration but preference is for COPPERKNOB on his reappearance. The Gary Moore-trained colt shed the maiden tag in decisive style when last seen at Brighton and he can repeat that feat off 7lb higher. They Don’t Know can also go well.

It all clicked for COPPERKNOB at Brighton in June and he could have more to offer over this sort of trip so he gets the nod back from a break. Recent 1m Lingfield novice winner Far Horizon should be suited by this step up in trip for his handicap debut so he’s feared most ahead of Storm Catcher
