Evening

This evening, we have two interesting two year old contests to start the evening, followed by five highly competitive handicaps. The first race has nine runners with all bar one having had only one run and the other is unraced; two of them are by Kingman, so it would be no surprise if this race throws up a star of the future. The second race, being a maiden over 1 mile, is likely to feature some more backward and progressive types of horses with most of them already having shown some form. As almost all of the horses come from relatively large and powerful stables, a trip to the paddock to inspect the runners is recommended before making your selection.
The rest of the evening features large fields of handicaps, so recent form of both horse and trainer, particularly good form around this course, as well as a good draw are going to be significant factors in finding a winner.
Good luck with your selections and I hope you have a wonderful evening.
For more information about any of these events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
LEADENHALL failed to land a blow when sent off favourite on his debut last month, but, having lost a shoe, that effort seems best forgiven. A full-brother to the talented Laurel (runner-up in this year’s Sun Chariot), he should have no problem with the switch to an artificial surface and, with improvement likely, he’s fancied to score at the second time of asking. Prince of Zenda could fill the runner-up spot and Strike Alliance is noted too.

PRIVILEGE’s strike rate isn’t the most compelling but she has returned to form in this headgear combination the last twice and looks ready to cash in on her lowly mark. Munificent is second choice ahead of Bernard Spierpoint, who has edged down to an appealing mark, and the veteran Shamshon.

ALWAJD might not represent a great deal of value but she’s certainly a very appealing proposition in this company and she could take some stopping in her bid for a fourth win from her last five starts. A 6lb penalty for her latest success over a slightly shorter trip at Wolverhampton gives hope to any supporters of Mc’ted, who has thrived since being fitted with a visor. Cap D’Antibes is unexposed at the trip and he completes the shortlist.
