HORSE WELFARE AT CATTERICK

At all Catterick race meetings we has a minimum of two fully qualified equine vets who are employed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. They work closely with a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer who is also always in attendance. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a horse becoming hurt or injured, the racecourse vets are on hand to act swiftly and treat a horse without delay. It is now standard procedure that all racecourses have modern, fully equipped horse ambulances so that horses can be moved and treated in more comfort. If a horse is injured out on the course, the vets and their assistants will erect screens enabling them to work in private - the use of screens will not automatically mean the horse has been seriously injured. Serious injuries at Catterick Racecourse are thankfully very rare, but we regard any injury, however slight it may be, an absolute priority and we would like to assure all racegoers that we have the right people, the right equipment and right procedures to deal with them efficiently

FIRST AID

Will all racegoers please note the location of the first aid post which is at the entrance to the Disabled car Park.

RACE CONDITIONS

For today’s race conditions, please see page 23.

SHUTTLE BUS

Catterick are pleased to announce that they are now providing a shuttle bus service between the racecourse and Richmond town centre. Today the shuttle bus will leave the main entrance approximately 10 minutes after the last race. For further details please contact the Racecourse Office.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

Bold form figures = All-Weather form

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CREATIVE CONTROL arrives here in good heart and should prove much too strong for Fiston du Mou, who did the job in good style at Sedgefield 3 starts back but his subsequent efforts suggest that he is now in the handicapper’s grip.

TODAY’S TIP

In a contest where compelling candidates are thin on the ground the vote goes to THE NAVIGATOR who has dropped to 1lb below the mark he defied at Kelso in the autumn. Hughie Morrison has been among the winners this month so American Gerry, who landed a C&D maiden at a similar time last year, is feared most ahead of Kavanaghs Cross, for whom the booking of Brian Hughes is potentially significant.

RACE FACTS TODAY’S TIP

A chance is taken on DIDTHEhLEAVEUOUTTO, who isn’t the easiest to win with but he typically contests stronger handicaps than this and will have every chance down in trip here with conditions to suit if the mood takes. While the hat-trick seeking El Muchacho and recent Sedgefield scorer Fruit N Nut are greatly respected, if Takeit Easy builds on his recent comeback run at Cheltenham he could emerge as the main danger
