TREE PLANTING

AYR RACECOURSE PARTICIPATES IN QUEEN’S GREEN CANOPY INITIATIVE Ayr Racecourse is marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by participating in a nationwide project to plant trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative. Several trees have been planted in and around the grounds of the course and Western House Hotel. The Queen’s Green Canopy was launched last May and its aim is to create a national legacy in honour of the Queen’s monarchy over 70 years. Ayr is one of many British racecourses to take part in the initiative and commemorative plaques have been placed beside the trees. Ayr Racecourse and Western House Hotel Managing Director David Brown said : “Both the racecourse and hotel were keen to mark this landmark occasion and the Queen’s Green Canopy gives us the perfect opportunity to do so. “This project promotes planting sustainably and also creates a legacy in honour of the Queen’s leadership of the nation.” Racecourse Head Gardener Simon McKay supervised the planting of the trees which included ornamental pear trees and cherry trees.
