The location of the hotel is in the city center of Skopje, and between a small pedestrian piazza and a frequent street on the other side. The project gives answers to several requests of different character: First of all, we did not want the hotel to be of closed character and its volume to stop the flow of the people in the area.

Our idea was that we attract people to come inside, browse through the ground floor, use hotel amenities, and give them the feeling of a public space within the hotel. With a good approach of distancing the “private and quiet� spaces of the hotel, we created its open space both more lively, rich in experience for guests and at the same time with bigger economic potential for the hotel.

Upper levels are again organized with more public content: Restaurant, bar, fitness & spa center and a conference space. All of them organized according to the function that allows different types of privacy, moods and views, so the hotel offers a quality city experience both for the guests and for the local citizens. It is more than a standard still hotel facade for the town, but a living organism integrated in the city life.

A large part of the ground floor, where the reception is situated, is designed as a closed passage through the building, from the street to the piazza.

Vertical communications lead the guests through five levels of open, but more private lobbies that are visually connected with each other through the open air space of the passage.

Different types of rooms are allocated on the five levels offering different kind of experiences not only from the inside but also providing different views to the surrounding.

For this project, we provided full architectural and interior design services, including lighting, exterior signage, furniture and branding. Located in the center of the city, in an old building, the restaurant occupies 300 sqm of space, spread across two floors offering different seating arrangements for different occasions.

Carefully chosen fabrics, furnishings and paintings from the renowned artist Zoran Cardula add to the whole ambiance of the restaurant. Different types of lights are suspended from the celling acting as a main momentum in the double height space of the restaurant. The veneer coverings are the soft touch in the otherwise strip down brick stone interior. The open plan bar is an immediate eye catching setup and hence functions besides the restaurant as a daily bar.

The use of birch wood veneer creates a refined aesthetic and juxtaposes with the old brick walls which are left uncovered and repainted, creating a sense of soft nostalgia.

Moxy by Marriott is the new and trendy hotel format of Marriott International, targeted to Millennials and Generation Z, driven by an emotional approach, digital mindset and combined with a local feeling and way of being: “Think global, act local�.

The styling challenge here is to keep this cool cosmopolitan #atthemoxy heartbeat and combine it with the local design elements, which can consist of influences from music, art, local markets, artists and many more.

Each Moxy has its own interior design with styling items being sourced not only from our trusted suppliers but also local craftsman or shops to give the hotel a unique decor and atmosphere for guests to remember.

The Instagrammability thereby plays an important role and influences our sourcing in order to make each project a success beyond the physical space.

Courtyard targets frequent business and leisure travelers alike. Having this in mind the styling has to be modern and sophisticated, but never too crazy. However, it still has to take on the local touch of the urban surrounding to make it a characteristic space for customers to remember.

Each hotel has its particular theme, which is mostly shown through its architecture and which we take on for our styling inspiration and when sourcing appropriate decor.

The challenge hereby is to not overdo the styling, but stay inline with the guidelines given, still ensuring that each hotel has a local and modern feel.

The new Holiday Inn open lobby concept moves away from a traditional nondescript hotel design by creating an open and multi-functional space that accommodates to every guests needs.

The styling has to consider the Holiday Inn design guide and at the same time has to accommodate new and contemporary ideas in the different areas like Arrival, Lounge, F&B, Library and Work. We chose items that gave the hotel a unique “Feel at home� look and took on typical iconic features from the surrounding city.
