The best thing about creativity is that it cannot be defined or confined. For bandmates turned brothers Jex, Adam, Rob, Kingber and Tommy, they embrace the true essence of free-spirited and free-flowing artistry; together they make up IV (Four). “Our Instagram handle often leads people to believe we call ourselves “Band Four” when it’s just pronounced “Four”. Originally from Linden, New Jersey, they’ve put a modern spin on the ‘boy band’ and refuse to be labelled under a specific genre. “We find it very difficult to fit into the boxes set by the music industry because we draw influence from many different genres, and we find that to be glaringly obvious in our songs.” Even though they are a group of five, IV began as a trio between Tommy, Jex and Adam in 2017, but it was Jex’s idea to give them the name IV, from a mix between his personal obsession with the number, and the concept from the movie “The Number 23”. While still extremely young and also young in their career, over the past 5 years the group has been finding their footing and starting to build an audience on both an individual and group level. They’ve also been navigating the challenges of the music industry. As far as their message goes, “ we’ve got a lot to say and we hope somebody listens, but if they hear anything, I hope it’s [the song] “You’re Not Alone”, says lead singer Tommy. The group not only projects that message in their music but it is also one of the core values of their brotherhood and team-building, “when one of us gets better at something, we all want to match them in our own sense”, he says. The group prides themselves on their unique artistry and putting out positive relatable messages. They are still revelling in the release of their latest project, “EPEP” and are already working on a new album.
