What an exciting year on the horizon! We’ve seen a recent increase in reserved dates for brides and grooms planning 2011 weddings! That’s very exciting! What’s even more exciting about is the embracing of “making it your own” where brides and grooms are bringing more personality and style into their own weddings. Our local wedding professionals are also rising to the occasion and bringing more inventive unique ways to work with the couple to give them exactly what they want for their wedding day.

A Column Of Questions and Answers From Springfield’s Miss Manners Dear Rose Eileen, I’ve never been married before and with our families and planning this wedding, I hadn’t anticipated how much everyone would want to contribute!

My mom is paying for most of the reception, the cake, the favors. My maid of honor, who is my sister, has offered to buy the flowers and is paying for the wedding shower. My fiance’s parents are paying for the photographer and my brother wants to pay for the band. I just feel badly since I feel like we, my fiance and I, should be paying more. I feel like we’re putting everyone out. We are getting married and having the wedding so that we can celebrate with our friends and family, not take advantage of them. They won’t even let us pay for a dinner out or hotel rooms. Anything I should do?

Dear Rose Eileen, I’m traveling from out of town to be an attendant in a friend’s wedding.

When she was in mine, we paid for her hotel for 4 nights. She has offered to have me stay at her apartment for the first two nights I am there and then

when my husband arrives, we will stay at a hotel. I have been assuming that they would pay for the hotel but I asked whether we should make our reservations or if they would be doing that for us, and she told me I would need to call the hotel. How can I ask her if they are paying for the hotel?

Or should I just assume we are paying for it ourselves?

Lauren by email Dear Lauren, She may not realize that usually the couple pays for at least one night of their attendant’s lodging. So, you’re going to have to just ask her. If you’re paying, do not feel you have to stay at that certain hotel, especially if the rates are higher than others in the area.

Dear Rose Eileen, I just found out that a good friend is getting married in exactly one month at a destination 500 miles from our home town. I was told I was invited although I have yet to receive the actual invitation in the mail. I had already made plans on the wedding date and I’m a little annoyed at the short notice for a wedding where I’m expected to pay for my own transportation and lodging, not to mention gift, etc. (at least $400) with less than a 30-day notice. I’m fearful that if I decline to attend, it will adversely affect our friendship, but at the same time, she didn’t seem to think of others in her last minute decision. Is one-month notice appropriate for an out-of-town wedding?? Help, what should I do?

“Trash the Dress” photo sessions are a new trend in post-wedding photography. It’s an opportunity for brides to wear their wedding dress one more time and to take fun photos without fear of getting the dress dirty. Plus, wedding dresses should be cleaned after the reception anyway, so why not have some more fun with it first? During an informal Bunnell Photography staff meeting, Christine Ventulett Buckley and I had the idea to do a Trash the Dress session with a twist. We wanted to shoot lots of brides at once! After a brainstorming meeting, we were energized with the idea of doing the session on closing day of The Big E. Since this wasn’t a traditional photo shoot, we decided to hold it like a fundraiser. One of our clients has a young daughter who is severely effected by rheumatoid arthritis. She was selected as the 2010 Arthritis Walk ambassador. It seemed like the perfect solution to raise money for a cause so close to one of our clients. We spread the word among our most recent clients as well as Facebook fans. Everyone was enthralled with the idea of a group Trash the Dress session, especially since it hadn’t been done here before. The shooting possibilities were endless! We arranged for three Bunnell Photographers to help document the event as well as DL Video.

The big day arrived and we ended up with 8 brides. All the women in bridal attire made quite a scene at the fair! Hundreds of onlookers barraged us with questions. We jumped into the parade, rode the ferris wheel, went down the giant slide, and dipped their feet in the hot tub display. The brides were all great sports and had a blast. This was the craziest shoot I’ve ever done and I look forward to making this an annual event.

How To Plan the Perfect Honeymoon The date is set, the dress is bought and the tuxes are rented-now you get to plan your first vacation together as husband and wife.

Whether your ideal honeymoon is traveling to the Swiss Alps for some mountain fun or relaxing on an exotic beach in the Caribbean, it’s a special time you’ll never forget. So what do you need to know to plan the perfect honeymoon that goes off without a hitch? The best thing you can do is research, plan and prepare together.

Here are some things to consider when planning the perfect honeymoon: 1. Choose a destination together. Pick a destination that you both really want to visit. Each person should choose the top three places they would like to honeymoon and then compare lists. If you both want something relaxing, a traditional spa vacation in the tropics is a good choice. If you are adventure junkies, be sure to visit a location that off ers lots of fun activities.

2. Prep ahead of time. Make a checklist of things you need to do before your trip. Research the laws of the country to where you will be traveling and see what rules are different. It’s a good idea to check with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to fi nd out what types of immunizations are recommended for Americans at that specific destination. And remember, if you don’t have a passport or need to renew, allow ample time for processing.
