Lets get you prepared for a day of fun and inspiration!

Create a Wedding Email Address This gets you organized, keeping all your wedding planning information together in one account. It helps you keep conversations with vendors and businesses organized and out of your daily email box.

Get Advance Tickets!

Some shows offer free or advance discount tickets if you register in advance of the event. This will save you time getting into the show.

Don’t Forget the Wedding Party!

Brides, grooms, attendants, family, anyone helping to plan this wedding could attend! A recommendation to consider: as much as you may like to bring little ones, especially flower girls, to this event, it can be overwhelming for them and a distraction for you.

Bring Labels!

One of the easiest ways to leave your information with a wedding professional that you’re interested in is to have a pre-printed label with your name, wedding date and contact info. You can also enter to win show specials or giveaways by just sticking a label on their signup slip.

Wear Comfortable Shoes!

You’ll be walking a bit, looking through displays, standing while speaking with wedding professionals. Make sure you have comfortable shoes on your feet as you’ll be covering a lot of ground.

Make Sure That You Eat! There’s sure to be concession stands, food samples and delicious cake to taste. Make sure you eat and stay hydrated as all the goodies come your way.

Take Notes and Information!

If you find a wedding professional or business you want to work with, make an appointment. Be sure to pick up a business card or flyer and mark it so you know you liked them and why. Don’t be afraid to take some information on a wedding professional or business you may not be ready to even talk to yet. You can use it after the show to look up their website, social media and connect with them after the show.

Wedding professionals and businesses are there to help you with your wedding plans, to assist you with finding your style, wedding inspiration and point you in the right direction to all those things you may need to have an amazing celebration. The Dos and Don’ts of Being a Good Wedding Guest Attending a wedding is a wonderful way to celebrate the love and commitment of two people. As a guest, your role is not just to enjoy the event, but also to be considerate and respectful of the couple’s special day. Understanding the dos and don’ts of wedding etiquette can help ensure that you make the day even more memorable—for both the couple and your fellow guests.

The Don’ts of Being a Wedding Guest

Do RSVP Promptly Responding to the wedding invitation on time is one of the most important things you can do as a guest. Your RSVP helps the couple finalize guest lists, catering, and seating arrangements. If you are unable to attend, make sure to notify them as soon as possible. It’s a simple way to show respect for the couple’s planning efforts.

Don’t Show Up Uninvited If you haven’t received an invitation, don’t show up to the wedding.

If you received an invite with out a plus-one or “and guest” don’t bring one. This can cause unnecessary stress for the couple and their planners, especially when it comes to catering and seating arrangements. If you’re not sure whether you’re invited, don’t hesitate to ask the couple directly—but never assume you can attend without an invitation.

Do Follow the Dress Code Many couples have specific dress codes or themes for their wedding day, whether it’s formal, semi-formal, casual, or a particular color scheme. Always take care to follow the dress code provided on the invitation. This shows that you respect the couple’s vision for their wedding and helps maintain a cohesive atmosphere for the event.

Do Be On Time Arriving on time is a must. Being punctual ensures you don’t disrupt the ceremony or special moments of the event. If you do arrive late, wait until a suitable moment (such as a transition between segments of the ceremony) to take your seat quietly. Being on time ensures you don’t miss any key moments and shows your respect for the couple and their guests.

Do Mind Your Phone Use While weddings are full of moments you’ll want to capture, it’s important to respect the couple’s wishes and the work of professional photographers. Put your phone away and be present during the ceremony, and avoid posting any photos of the bride before the ceremony, especially her dress. Always check with the couple before sharing pictures on social media to avoid spoiling any surprises. If you’re unsure, it’s best to ask them first.

Do Be Considerate of the Couple’s Time Weddings are a busy time for the couple, and they might not have the opportunity to talk to every guest for long. Be patient and understanding if the couple doesn’t have time to engage with you indepth. Instead of monopolizing their attention, take the time to interact with other guests, share in the joy of the day, and respect their need to move through the event.

Don’t Post Social Media Updates During the Ceremony While weddings are often shared on social media, it’s important to be mindful of the timing. Don’t post anything during the ceremony, especially pictures of the bride or groom before they have a chance to experience the day privately. Wait until after the ceremony, or until the couple has posted photos themselves, to share any images. This ensures you respect the couple’s privacy and their moments of anticipation.

Don’t Disrupt the Photographer’s Work Professional photographers are hired to capture the most important moments of the day. As a guest, don’t get in their way. Avoid standing in the aisles or blocking their shot with your phone or camera. Put your phone away for the ceremony. If you are given an opportunity to take photos, be discreet and allow the photographer to do their job without interference. This ensures the couple has beautiful, uninterrupted memories of their big day.

Don’t Overindulge While it’s tempting to enjoy the food, drinks, and festivities, don’t overindulge. Stay mindful of your behavior and drinking habits.

Weddings are celebratory events, but getting too intoxicated can make you a disruptive guest, and no one wants that. Remember to enjoy the day in moderation.

Don’t Complain About the Event Weddings are a time of celebration, and complaining about the food, venue, or even the seating arrangements is not appropriate. If something isn’t to your liking, keep it to yourself. The focus should always be on the couple’s happiness and their special day, not on minor inconveniences. Being a gracious guest means maintaining a positive attitude throughout the event.

Final Thoughts Being a good wedding guest involves thoughtfulness, respect, and a little bit of mindfulness. Brenda and Anthony’s Wedding Team

A Journey of Love, Fate, and Resilience

Anthony and I have known each other for 23 years, but fate kept us apart until 2019.

Both of us were nearing the end of long-term relationships, and by a twist of destiny, we reconnected under remarkably similar circumstances. It felt like the universe was bringing us back together. Slowly, we began to rebuild our bond, navigating the aftermath of our past relationships, and learning to enjoy each other’s company once again.

Fast forward to a significant moment in our story. We moved into a house Anthony had bought, which, quite literally, was in shambles (that’s a story for another time!).

In June 2023, I discovered a lump in my left breast. By July 10th, I had the diagnosis: Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, Stage 2. The whirlwind of emotions that followed shook our family to its core. Between doctor’s appointments, tests, and treatments, it was hard to keep up. Through it all, Anthony stood by me as my unwavering rock — always there to offer a shoulder to cry on, and there were many tears. I underwent four rounds of chemotherapy and, in September 2023, a double mastectomy. Mentally and emotionally, it was overwhelming; I felt like a shell of my former self.

Amidst these challenges, I made an unexpected decision: to get engaged and plan our wedding during my leave of absence from work. In a beautiful moment, Anthony, my best friend and life partner, simply told me, “Pick a date.” So, we chose June 12, 2024 — a date full of significance: all multiples of two, symbolizing our second marriage and second chance at love and redemption.

Despite everything I was going through, I dove headfirst into planning our wedding. Neither of us had had a traditional wedding before — we’d each married through a simple courthouse ceremony with only a few people in attendance. Now, with very little experience, I was navigating the world of wedding planning, and honestly, it was overwhelming.

But then, fate intervened again. The first venue I visited introduced me to a wonderful woman who had gone through a very similar medical journey to mine, just months ahead of me.

(I won’t share her name, as that’s her story to tell.) Her kindness and support made everything feel more manageable. The venue also helped reduce my stress by offering decorations, catering, and full setup and breakdown services. This support was a true lifeline during such a difficult time.

My photographer, Ron, came highly recommended by the venue. After several phone interviews with photographers, Ron’s warmth and personality won me over. Through his recommendation, I found the perfect DJ, and my wedding planning began to fall into place.

I took on the task of designing my invitations, and after some online research, I was thrilled with how they turned out. The venue team assisted with seating arrangements, and Ron and our DJ, TC, worked together to plan the entire wedding schedule — truly lifesavers throughout the process.

Just when things seemed to be falling into place, we faced another heartbreaking blow. On March 17, 2024, my mother passed away peacefully in her sleep, just a few months before my wedding. I was devastated. The pain of not having her there on the most important day of my life was a deep sorrow, but I carried her memory with me as I walked down the aisle.

Despite the loss, our wedding day was beautiful and nearly perfect. From the ceremony to the reception, it was an unforgettable celebration of love. It felt like a dream — a day of joy after a series of life-changing, difficult circumstances.

I am still living in the afterglow of that incredible day, filled with gratitude for the people who helped make it possible and for the love that has carried us through.

Brandon and Erika met online amidst the pandemic. On the surface, the couple could not have been more different. He was a country boy from upstate New York, who loves hunting, fishing, and playing sports every day. She was as girly and city-loving as you could get; a hairdresser with little to no survival skills and deathly afraid of taking a fish off a hook. Needless to say, after a few visits, they learned to love each others’ hobbies.

Instead of a bouquet toss, Erika decided to dedicate her bridal bouquet to her mom. “She has always been my best friend and was the most important and helpful part of the wedding planning process, so though moms never get the recognition they deserve at their daughter’s wedding, I felt that the least I could do was dedicate my bouquet to her.”

Erika also honored her dad. In the afternoon, while getting ready, she gave her Dad a sweet, personal note expressing her gratitude for him. “He has always done so much for me, and continues to do so much for us as a couple. So, I gifted him that and his ‘father of the bride’ cigar holder. He teared up as he read the note!”

A winter wedding was always Erika’s dream. However, as the day approached, lots of people in her life began to express some reservations about an outdoor ceremony in the winter. When they toured The Ranch and saw the patio’s breathtaking views the outdoor ceremony was a must-do. To try to keep their wedding guests as comfortable as possible, they prepared well! The invitation told guests to dress for an outdoor ceremony. The couple provided baskets of blankets, “To have and to hold in case you get cold”. The Ranch’s coordinator Angie set up heaters and also outdoor fire pits. They also made sure that the ceremony was short!

As guests arrived for the ceremony, The Ranch ushered guests into their beautiful, HEATED pub adjacent to the ceremony patio, keeping them warm and comfy until the ceremony was ready to start.

Immediately after the ceremony, the staff ushered guests right back in there for cocktail hour. The weather was relatively mild for December; about 38 degrees, little to now wind, plus the lucky addition of a little snow on the ground from a few days prior, making for some beautiful photos!

Another special detail was their officiant, Maria. Erika says, “When Brandon and I first met online, it seemed that all odds were stacked against us actually arranging to meet in person. The hardest part was that I was young, so my parents would not let me drive all the way to New York to meet a boy from the internet. So, my coworker and friend, Maria, decided it was urgent that Brandon and I finally get the chance to meet and she got in her car and drove me to New York to ease my parents’ minds. Needless to say, things worked out, and when we decided we wanted someone very closely important to our relationship to be the one to marry us, there was no better person than Maria.”

What Your Photographer Wants You To Know!

By Kathryn Bunnell, Bunnell Photography I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings in my career. Want to benefit from my experience? Here are my top suggestions on getting the best images of your wedding day.

Don’t Rush- Wedding timelines tend to go off the rails sometimes. Try to allow a minimum of 1 hour for bridal party, family, and newlywed photos. Build in some extra time so you can get amazing images without feeling rushed. If you end up ahead of schedule, take a bit of time to take some romantic candids of just the two of you, or refresh in the bridal suite for a bit.

Share Your Timeline- THE most important factor in making sure your posed wedding photos go efficiently is that everyone is where they need to be, on time and attentive.

Share your timeline with all immediate family members and others you want to incorporate into posed photos. If even one immediate family member is missing, it can be hard to get the group back on track. Got extra groups or a large extended family? Consider taking those photos quickly between courses at your reception.

Consider a First Look- Seeing each other before the ceremony can help settle nerves, gives you amazing candids as you see each other, and frees you up to spend most of your cocktail hour with your guests. Not down with seeing each other before the wedding? Consider a first look with your father, special family member, or your bridal party.

Light is everything! Consider the time of day and the sunlight in your timeline. If you’re getting married in a field with no shade, try not to plan most of your photos in the middle of the day when the sun is directly overhead.

A pro will do their best to compensate but consider doing your couple photos earlier or later in the day. Or find some shade at your location.

Express yourself! Consider incorporating a hobby, a special interest you share, or something else that celebrates you both as a couple into your wedding or engagement photos. It’s your day, let your personalities show through!

Print your photos- So many of our day-to-day images live online only. But wedding photos deserve the permanence of printed images! If a full bridal album isn’t in your budget, plan to make your own or get some prints and enlargements to decorate your walls. This way your images can be shared for generations to come!

Go unplugged- Any smartphone (or, even worse, a tablet!) held up to record the ceremony has a chance to appear in your photos. It also disconnects guests from experiencing the ceremony, ruining shots where we try to get sweet reactions from loved ones. I always try to get photos of parents watching their “kids” get married.

Sometimes I see parents of the couple watch the entire ceremony from behind their phones, eliminating those emotional candid opportunities. Have your officiant make an announcement at the start of the ceremony.

Enjoy the day! I like to say that a little something seems to go wrong at most weddings.

Try to roll with the stresses, and remember what is really important; having an amazing day with your new spouse.

A Tent For Your Wedding Expert Advice On Planning Your Tented Wedding

If there is anything we’ve learned from the past few challenging years of change and weddings, it’s new opportunities to be creative. More and more couples are opting for hosting a “tent wedding” with an opportunity for versatile space, comfort, enjoyment of the outside and creating a unique space all their own. Hosting a wedding in a tent is essentially building a space from scratch. In a backyard, open field, rented plot of land or an addition to a permanent structure, a tent defines the space and helps create a sense of excitement; it provides the bones to create an extraordinary event.

“A tent is a blank canvas that sets the stage for imagination and can be one of the most exciting, creative options for weddings,” says Lisa Powers of the Wedding Day Sourcebook. “So many of our local couples have selected tent weddings to showcase their creativity, for their guests’ comfort and flexibility and the option of bringing in those unique items that define their style. With a tent, you can create any world that you want within the walls; from adding chandeliers, hanging installations, walls and windows, bistro lighting and dance floors that fit the aesthetic of the event. Plus let’s not forget the variety of table and chair options, to tabletop designs and florals, soft seating lounges, bars, and more.”

To give you more information about tents for weddings, we asked Nicole Evans from Michael’s Party Rentals to share some information and answers to those questions for planning a tent wedding.

How early do you recommend your clients to reserve a tent for their wedding?

The earlier the better! We prefer a 6-12 month lead time, but based on availability we are able to accommodate weddings in a shorter time frame.

What information do you need to select/reserve a tent? We like to start with the basics. What is your event date, location and expected guest count. We then want to know what will be going under the tent, tables, chairs, dance floor, band etc.

From here we have formulas that help choose the appropriate size and style tent.

Do you do site visits to determine location? Yes! We require a site visit on all tents larger than 800 square feet or if the tent will be installed over a deck or driveway. During site visits we are looking for more than just if the tent will fit.

We check for any delivery and install obstacles such as low power lines or no vehicle access. Once on site, we look if there are any underground utilities or a septic system we need are concerned of.

What do I need to do to prepare to have a tented event?

We advise that the lawn is mowed and that your sprinkler system is turned off prior to install. Don’t worry if you have a sprinkler system. If we hit a line, notify us after the teardown and we’ll come out to repair it. We also ask that the space in which tent will be going is free and clear of any obstacles before our arrival.

What do you recommend for your wedding clients?

Nicole from Michael’s Party Rentals says, “Our Century Tent is our most popular style for weddings. Its elegant swoops and peaks give it that dreamy appearance. Most towns require a tent permit on tents that are larger than 600 square feet. We offer the service to our clients of handling pulling tent permits.
