THANK YOU FOR JOINING OUR MISSION TO

GIVE. ADVANCE. LEAD. ACHIEVE.

ADVENTURE AWAITS Reserve your spot now for one of our upcoming live virtual experiences at http://go.wcufoundation.org/events/gala

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR 2021: G.A.L.A. EXPERIENCE Find a quiet and comfortable place where you can participate with minimal distractions. Have a beverage and snacks on-hand in case you need them. If you can, turn off or mute email, chat, and phone notifications during the sessions so you can fully engage. We recommend using headphones or earbuds to maximize sound quality. System Requirements: Update your Zoom platform to the most recent version and be sure to use a computer or tablet that supports video conferencing. For the best video experience quality, ensure all other Wi-Fi connections are in limited use. Your internet connection should be broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE). Will I be on camera during the sessions? All of the virtual experiences will take place in the Zoom platform, which means that your video and microphone will automatically be muted when you login. You can engage with speakers and attendees through the chat and you can raise your hand if you’d like to speak to the whole group. We recommend muting your line when you are not speaking to minimize background noise. None of the virtual experiences will be recorded. What should I do if I’m experiencing audio issues? First make sure you are not using Internet Explorer. If you are still not able to hear any audio, check to make sure your computer speakers are not muted or turned off. The next step is to refresh your screen by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard or clicking the “refresh” button in your web browser. Questions? Reach out as soon as possible to events@wcufoundation.org.

MEET THE 2021: G.A.L.A. CO-CHAIRS JAMES P. SHINEHOUSE '80 & PATRICIA SHINEHOUSE West Chester University is honored to welcome James P. Shinehouse ’80 and Patricia Shinehouse as co-chairs of this year’s 2021: G.A.L.A. steering committee. The Shinehouse family is passionate about making a difference where it matters most. Inspired by a desire to give back to his alma mater and to help those in need in Africa, Jim and Pat provided the lead gift to fund the construction of an interdisciplinary research facility in western Rwanda in 2017. The project’s roots in psychology resonated with Jim, whose father, the late Robert Shinehouse, was a longtime professor of psychology at WCU. Jim, a respected alumnus and former West Chester University Foundation Trustee and President, is a Founding Partner at Atlantic Financial Advisory Partners. He has over 30 years of crisis management experience, has led large and notable corporate restructurings and turnarounds for international clients, and has conducted numerous complex fraud investigations. He has also testified in numerous high-profile cases in the U.S. and abroad, including as an expert for the Department of Justice and in the Enron matter. Since graduating from WCU in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Jim, a CPA, has held several executive positions, served on dozens of Company Boards, and currently Chairs multiple international Boards of Directors. As an undergraduate, he was active on the Speech and Debate Team as President and two-time State Champion of Varsity

Debate; he now guest-lectures for a fraud examination class at the University. Pat graduated from the University of Delaware in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in English, after which she worked as a medical editor for a nursing publication company, and has been a Stephen Minister at her church. Among his many volunteer roles on numerous charitable boards, which include locally the Domestic Violence Center and Legacy Youth Tennis and Education, Jim served for ten years on the Board of Governors of The Gemology Institute of America, an international non-profit organization, including as its vice chairman. Jim’s firm has been a loyal supporter of the Norwood charitable organization in England for close to ten years, providing critical support to at-risk children. The Shinehouses have supported the Gala for ten years, and the University for close to three decades, sharing their resources with students to help maximize their opportunity for a WCU education. In 2014, the University presented Jim with the Dean’s Award at commencement; he received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007 and the Accounting Alumni of the Year Award in 2008. In 2016, both he and Pat were recognized at the President’s Circle Dinner for their generosity and philanthropic commitment to the University. They have loyally supported the Business and Public Management Center, the Wells School of Music Performing Arts Center, the Carolyn Keefe Memorial Forensics Endowment, and the Diane and Roger Casagrande Endowment. The couple has enjoyed almost 40 years of marriage and have raised four children: Bryan, Bill, Bob, and Laura. They have traveled extensively, both as part of Jim’s professional responsibilities and for pleasure. Pat is an avid reader and enjoys entertaining, while Jim plays tennis, bikes, expands his knowledge of history and foreign affairs, and cheers on Philly sports.

ABOUT THE GALA West Chester University’s 38th Annual Presidential Scholarship Community Gala is designed to provide financial assistance to students who have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence. WCU’s 2021: G.A.L.A. will transform from one great night out to an inclusive spring benefit focused on the G.A.L.A.’s true meaning – to Give. to Advance. to Lead. to Achieve. The Presidential Scholarship is funded entirely by private donations. Since the Gala’s inception in 1983, the popular benefit has raised more than $1.2 million dollars for West Chester University students through a renewable, fouryear Presidential Scholarship. The University is grateful to the many volunteers and community leaders who work countless hours to make this event so successful year after year. 2021 STEERING COMMITTEE Co-Chairs: James P.
