Director’s Message

Since its inception in 1973, Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission (WCPARC) has been vital to the quality of life in Washtenaw County. As stewards of public spaces, WCPARC recognizes the profound impact that parks and recreation have on the physical, social, and environmental well-being of the community.

Today, the organization employs 58+ full-time staff and upwards of 350-400 seasonal and part-time staff to serve hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. WCPARC is recognized as a countywide facilitator and partner with local units of government and not-for-profit organizations. These partnerships ensure the collaboration and coordination around the delivery of parks and recreation services and land preservation.

Guided by our Mission of environmental, social and financial stewardship, we are proud to share our accomplishments this past year, including:

• Completing the 2025 – 2029 Parks & Recreation Master Plan

• Partnering on the Eastern Washtenaw Community & Recreation Center

• Providing $517,250 for the 2024 Connecting Communities grants

• Opening the Title IX Plaza along the B2B Trail

• Completing several capital improvement projects at various parks and preserves

• Improving public spaces at Rolling Hills County Park and securing plans for the Recreation Center improvements

• Purchasing unique natural areas to ensure their preservation

• Engaging volunteers to enhance delivery of services and maintenance of our land

• Planning special events for the enjoyment of all county residents

Further details of these projects can be found in our 2024 Annual Report at washtenaw.org/parks.

We hope you enjoy the wonderful resources offered by Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation and invite you to take part in the many opportunities for both active and passive recreation. We look forward to seeing you at our parks, in our preserves and joining us at special events.
