2ND SME Halal (Brunei Halal Brand) Workshop
Mr. Noel Shield, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Ghanim spoke at the "Brunei Halal Brand" workshop. Ghanim manages, markets and promotes the "Brunei Halal" trademark owned by Brunei Wafirah Holdings, a fully owned company of MIPR. "Brunei Halal Brand", owned by the Brunei government, is a commercial brand like BRC, HACCP and ISO but with a difference. It is a brand that complies with the religion taking advantage of Brunei's reputation as a country that adheres strongly to Islamic values. Brunei Halal Brand is the best in the world as it has tediously stricter Halal requirements compared to other certifications in the world. The challenge facing SMEs is bringing local products up to standards, not in a sense of how Halal the products are but how competitive they will be. Unless there are some changes in the way they operate, unless there are some changes in the logistic system covering the export market, unless there are some changes in the cost of production, local products can forget about foreign market. Pricing strategy, market research, having different taste protocols and marketing plan on top of religious certification (Brunei Halal Brand) are some of the issues that local food producers need to take seriously to make use of the Brunei Halal Brand to export their products. The workshop was held at the Dewan Setia Pahlawan, MIPR. The highlight was a Dikir presentation by members from the Muslimah Group.

Acting Honorary Secretary named
The WBC EXCO welcomed Nellie DP Sunny as the acting Honorary Secretary. She was a founding member and is no stranger to WBC.

Briefing on padian.com
A padian.com briefing was delivered by the Amir Consortium led by Awg Hj Rushdi ElHakim DSS Hj Ibrahim, Managing Director of Minit e-Technology, one of the four incubatee companies that developed the padian.com. Padian.com is a B2B portal aims at promoting business and trade. It charges a subscription fee for its services and products. The briefing took place before the start of the EXCO Meeting.

Karnival Kerjaya 2010
This is the first time WBC in collaboration with MTMS had a booth at the carnival which was held at ICC. WBC invited five companies belonging to respective WBC members namely Musufiya, Bahtera Samudera, Batik Desa Mas, HKH Fastfood, Ridah Handicraft All 5 companies have agreed to give training opportunities to unemployed youths under the WBC Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme. Some 146 job seekers and unemployed youths signed up for the scheme.
