Unity without uniformity and diversity without fragmentation.

UNITY IN DIVERSITY is used as an expression of harmony and unity between dis-similar individuals or groups. It is a concept of “unity without uniformity and diversity without fragmentation” that shifts focus from unity based on a mere tolerance of physical, cultural, linguistic, social, religious, political, ideological and/or psychological differences towards a more complex unity based on an understanding that difference enriches human interactions”

The collection “UNITY IN DIVERSITY” showcases diversification within current & upcoming male hair trends & the sense of unity within the multicultural society of Melbourne, Australia.

“My key objectives when executing this series of haircuts was to produce a varied range of styles which are both suitable & functional to my idea of the modern male, but with my own creative edge. The choice of style & technique used throughout derived from the idea of complimenting & strengthening male features. In turn this highlights my own vision & technical ability. The inspiration for this collection comes from my time spent in Melbourne & the people in which I’ve had relationships with on my journey. Melbourne as a city is extremely multicultural & the population are very expressive - hence the “Diversity”. The openness to this expression is where the “Unity” stems from. Although everybody’s shell on the outside differs, there is an overwhelming sense of companionship in the community which shines through. Each image could almost be representative of a suburb or area in Melbourne, which is left to the viewers perception. The “Unity” within my collection is shown through the choice of colour throughout & the “Diversity” is displayed in the type of clothing chosen for each individual. This represents & highlights each of my models unique personalities & character with the colour giving them a “uniform” type look. Their ethnicity, sense of fashion & way of life are all so different but they are united in location & choice of colour. Black was the colour chosen as often black has been described to me as the “Melbourne uniform” & the neon blue & purple comes from the city’s beautiful skyline at night.
