PROFILE Coultress O’Neill offers contemporary attire and accessories and a healthy dose of retail therapy

Style Confidence Stephanie Coultress O’Neill knows all about retail therapy—as well as retail and therapy. Before she opened Estilo Boutique in 2005, the owner pursued one of her passions and earned her master’s degree in psychology from The University of Texas and then operated her own child and family therapy private practice. After a while she decided to follow her other passion: fashion. Coultress O’Neill aims to offer customers not only carefully curated contemporary women’s clothing and accessories but also the opportunity to boost their confidence and sense of style. The entrepreneuse here offers Waterways readers her insights on holiday style and navigating ever-changing fashion trends.

Q. What guidance can you offer for pairing patterns and prints successfully? Take a component of each pattern, but don’t overdo it. For example, take a brown-and-black plaid pant and pair it with a brown-and-black floral. Don’t throw too many clashing elements together, such as different patterns and different colors. Have a component that brings it all together as well, such as a solid shoe and/or bag.

Q. What are your favorite ways to ensure your LBD stands apart from all the others at holiday events? Accessories are essential to help your LBD stand out. A great statement necklace, earrings or a cuff can elevate your dress to the next level.

Q. What one accessory is the best to splurge on? The accessory that you cannot live without. When you see that gorgeous statement piece that speaks to you, you should buy it. Accessories can be very personal, so when you have to have it…get it.

Q. What are the trends this year for holiday looks? How do you recommend incorporating them into one’s own personal style? Lace is a fun, romantic trend for the holidays and can make any outfit feel very festive and fun. Velvet is another great trend that has become a staple for the holiday season. Make the trend be a component of your outfit and not the whole look. For example, wear just a velvet top or a velvet shoe.

Q. How would you describe your own style? How has it evolved? I love to mix a little edgy and fun with classic. I love to be fashion forward while still being functional. As I have become a mom of two little ones, my style has definitely become more functional but yet still fashionable. I have to be able to chase after a 4-year-old but look stylish while doing it! Estilo Boutique is located in Tarrytown’s Casis Village, 2727 Exposition Blvd, Suite 121, and online at estiloboutique.com.
