PUBLISHER’S LETTER

RESET WITH NEW POSSIBILITIES! I’m a glass-half-full kind of gal, so it should come as no surprise that I relish the start of the new year and all the possibilities it brings. Whatever we might have endured or experienced in 2021 (and I think it’s safe to say we all faced some curveballs), the coming of 2022 gives us the perfect chance to reset and tackle those resolutions. I must admit that I’ve never been one to wait for the new year to make a change. I’m of the mindset that there’s no better time than now to go after what will make our lives better and brighter. Is clutter in the house driving me a little crazy? It’s time I get to organizing! Do I want to look and feel a little fitter? I won’t put off until tomorrow what I can do today! This very mindset helped inspire this issue’s Lust List theme. I love discovering all the places and products that other people are loving because it opens up a world of possibilities. To me, learning about the latest and greatest is a step toward more joy, accomplishment, and growth. There are so many things in West Austin and beyond to get glass half full…). In this issue, we’ve tried to capture that fun, buzzy feeling by filling the pages with amazing things that our team and other locals are raving about. I hope that as you flip through, you’ll find plenty to get excited about yourself too. So, here’s to 2022 being full of happiness and new adventures!

Puppy Love We are lucky to live in a place where alfresco dining and socializing are plentiful. Texas patios can be enjoyed almost year-round, though sometimes with the aid of heaters, fans or misters. And those of us who have canine companions love to take them along as often as possible. Check out these top dog-friendly places in West Austin, and see if there are any surprises on the list. Unless otherwise noted, all of these spots require dogs to be on leashes except in off-leash dog park areas.

Lakeway City Park A gem in Lakeway for people and pets alike, this is a leafy and tranquil waterfront park where you can watch the ducks and admire the wildflower meadow and butterfly garden. The paved path along the lake’s shoreline and nearly two miles of trails provide plenty of room for everyone. Dogs have their own space at Bark Park, an enclosed area inside the park. Visiting with kids? There are two playgrounds and basketball and volleyball courts. Hungry? Picnic tables and grills are found at the park along with covered pavilions that can be reserved. 502 Hurst Creek Road, Lakeway lakeway-tx.gov/126/city-park 8 WATERWAYS | February 2022

Red Bud Isle This hidden spot has been a beloved favorite of Austinites for decades. It’s a small island in the Colorado River accessible from Redbud Trail, which crosses the river just off Lake Austin Boulevard. Water-loving dogs adore the shallow swimming area on the shoreline, while pooches not as fond of getting wet enjoy the trails and ample open areas to chase tennis balls. The entire isle is off-leash. Trees offer heavy shade, and the shallow banks leading into the water make it easy for dogs to wade and play. Kayaking and canoeing are also permitted. Parking is very limited, though, so you may have to wait for a space on weekends. 3401 Redbud Trail, Austin | austinparks.org/red-bud-isle

Bee Cave Dog Park This peaceful dog park is large enough to easily accommodate 20 dogs (and their humans) at a time. It’s split into two enclosed areas: one for small dogs and another for medium to large pups. A footpath encircles the park, and there are plenty of shaded areas, including an awning-covered spot and benches with tree cover. A hose station is convenient for pups who get dirty >>

This local favorite not only has a large, dog-friendly patio shaded by live oaks; it’s also known for its extensive selection of wines and craft beers and fresh, made-fromscratch small plates. There’s plenty to do if you settle in for a while, from sports on the big-screen TVs at the patio bar to lawn games. The owners are also bringing a slice of Austin to Lakeway by providing live music performances almost nightly. 2125 Lohmans Crossing Road, #400, Lakeway hopsandthyme.com

Perched atop Austin’s iconic Oasis development, the dog-friendly multi-level decks at this brewpub offer breathtaking views of Lake Travis and the Hill Country in every direction. Rustic session beers complement pub food such as wagyu burgers, Nashville hot chicken and beer cheese queso from the craft kitchen. There’s also live entertainment most nights, and there may be no better place in Greater Austin to watch the sunset. Best of all, four-legged friends are not only allowed but welcomed. 6550 Comanche Trail, Austin | otxbc.com

The Garden ATX

Lone Star Farmers Market

Discovering The Garden is like coming across a secret gem you wish you’d known about sooner. It’s a lovely spot inspired by Boston’s North End that offers authentic Italian seafood flown in from the Northeast. Other dishes are local and fresh, and herbs are picked directly from The Garden’s garden. There’s also a good selection of beer, wine and craft cocktails. The food has universally earned rave reviews, and the dog-friendly outdoor space is inviting, with picnic tables and wicker swing chairs shaded by oaks. If you’re looking for an improvement on the typical restaurant patio—a

Few places are more enjoyable to visit with your dog than a farmers market. On Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this one has vendor booths featuring everything from produce and meats to artisan foods, plants and crafts. Several stalls and trucks selling prepared foods will fill your tummy while you’re there. You and your pup can kick back and enjoy the live music (or other entertainment), and the market even hosts dog-centric events like its Halloween costume contest.

Bee Cave Road By Cindy Brzostowski

It stretches for a little over 11 miles from the Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave to MoPac near Zilker Park. Some call it Bee Cave Road, some use the plural Bee Caves Road, and for still others, it’s RM 2244. Whatever name you use for this ribbon of asphalt, the fact is that it’s dotted with many exciting destinations worth checking out. Whether you decide to spend a day driving to these locations or spread your visits across multiple outings, you should enjoy these buzz-worthy Bee Cave Road stops.

THIS PAGE; PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF THE WAYBACK; ONE WORLD THEATRE. OPPOSITE PAGE: THE WAYBACK

Whether you’re searching for a quiet spot to take a staycation or looking for somewhere unique to suggest to your family or friends visiting from out of town, The Wayback is worth considering. The Wayback is no run-of-the-mill, multilevel hotel building. Instead, the property has eight quaint cottages, each a bit different. For example, cottage five has a sleeping nook, cottage six has a private back patio and cottage eight has a fireplace. Whichever one you choose (maximum occupancy is two or four depending on the cottage), you’ll be treated to a bright, airy space with cozy yet chic decor. Even if you’re unable to spend the night, you can still visit the cafe at The Wayback for a farm-to-table breakfast, lunch, dinner or weekend brunch. The brunch offers appetizing options like chicken and waffles and crab cake benedict. The charming ambiance might even prompt you to book your next getaway there—or book a room for that night! waybackaustin.com | 9601 Bee Cave Road

Catch a Show at One World Theatre You can find live music all over Austin, and Bee Cave Road is no exception. Perched on a hill, One World Theatre has hosted renowned musicians from around our one world since opening in 1999. Many would describe the venue as “intimate.” With only 300 seats, the theatre offers audiences an up-closeand-personal experience with top talent, and it’s hard to find a bad seat in the house. That talent spans a diverse range of performers who have included the Doobie Brothers’ Michael McDonald, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and Tibetan monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery. Performers already booked for February and March include Blood, Sweat & Tears, Pat Metheny, Judy Collins and Crash Test Dummies. If you’re attending a show, know that for most concerts there’s an option to book dinner beforehand or on-site. Fittingly, you’ll be treated to live entertainment from local musicians when your food is served one hour before the main show. >>

Fancy having your food paired with a fine wine? Or are you all about the wine? Either way, Grove Wine Bar & Kitchen might just be heaven for you. The Grove has a few locations around town, but the Westlake version on Bee Cave Road is especially appealing. It’s a relaxing neighborhood hangout where a lengthy and carefully curated wine list awaits. You can order by the glass or the bottle, or choose any of the 10 flights on the list—each featuring a three-ounce pour of three wines. The food is New American, although a great way to kick off your meal is to order an Italian specialty, the bruschetta. Nine varieties of this appetizer are offered, with flavorful combinations including one with whipped herb feta, local honey and crushed pistachio and another blending wild mushroom, aged balsamic and smoked gouda. When the weather is right, the best place to be is out on the patio under the sprawling oak tree. grovewinebar.com | 6317 Bee Cave Road, #380

Dig In at The Garden at Ellera The Garden at Ellera combines a beer garden vibe with Italian food inspired by Boston’s North End. On the menu are pizza, pasta and paninis as well as popular seafood items like the Maine lobster roll, PEI mussels and crab cakes. One good reason to visit The Garden is its ample outdoor area, where you can find a spot among the many picnic tables and nest swing chairs under the shady oaks. Bonus: Your pup is allowed to tag along too. On a sunny day, you could easily spend the afternoon. If you’re looking for a new happy hour (more ideas on page 28), The Garden “gets happy” Tuesdays through Thursdays from three to six p.m. with discounted drinks: select beers ($5), wines ($8) and cocktails ($6-$10). Complimentary valet parking is offered Thursday through Saturday. And sometimes there’s even live music or some other event; keep an eye on their website calendar. >>

Hiatus Spa

Relax, Renew, Refresh PERFECTING THE ART OF GETTING By Jamie Twitchel

While you could smear anything on your face and body and call it a spa treatment these days, not all topicals and treatments are going to deliver clear skin, rosy cheeks and a healthy glow. So, skip the DIY session and messy bathroom caked with discarded ingredients, and head to the spa for some personalized pampering. You’ll discover there are a plethora of treatments to pick from, and we’ve listed our favorites to help you narrow your choices.

26 WATERWAYS | February 2022

Put Your Best Face Forward Looking a little tired, even haggard? Freshen up with a gua sha facial. The use of contoured stones to massage and manipulate the skin improves the microcirculation of facial blood vessels, which increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage to release toxins and decrease inflammation. Additional benefits include the softening of fine lines and wrinkles, decreased puffiness and dark circles, a brighter complexion and improved collagen production. To enjoy these benefits, try the Gua Sha Facial at Jacquelyn’s Spa. Pricing starts at $120 jacquelynsspa.com. For a more comprehensive traditional facial that balances luxury, relaxation, benefits and performance, head to Hiatus Spa for The Change Your Life HydraFacial®. The HydraFacial System exfoliates and removes dead skin cells and then cleanses and extracts impurities from the pores before coating the skin in serums rich with antioxidants, peptides and moisturizers. Similar to the gua sha facial, the HydraFacial ($265) promotes lymphatic drainage to remove toxins from the body and strengthen the immune system. Next, the addition of super serums filled with antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid combined with LED lights and a targeted booster help to resurface your skin. As an added perk, enjoy a scalp and foot massage that will have you leaving the spa feeling renewed.

PROFESSIONALLY PAMPERED

Omni Barton Hotel Spa

The Body is a Temple As refreshing as a facial feels, there are times when some full-body TLC is in order. Whether your goal is to release stress or soothe aching muscles, a massage will cure what ails you. In that vein, The Comeback at Hiatus Spa combines an aromatic blend of lavender, lavandin and clary sage with a mix of Swedish and deep-tissue massage techniques, foot reflexology and acupressure to provide stress relief and ensure you leave feeling revitalized. Pricing starts at $120 for one hour. hiatusspa.com/locations/austin For the ultimate experience in stress reduction, head to the spa at the Omni Barton Hotel for the Nirvana Stress Relief massage. Choose from four aromatherapy blends of exotic herbs and essences, which include ingredients designed to impart a variety of effects on the body. Opt for cardamom for a warm and grounding effect, neroli oil to induce calm, balsam fir for clarity or holy basil to invigorate and energize. Regardless of which one you choose, the combination of aromatherapy and massage techniques will simultaneously relax and restore the body. Pricing starts at $175. omnihotels.com/hotels/ austin-barton-creek/spa When you want to relax but also want to leave with a healthy glow and deeply hydrated skin, opt for Omni Barton Creek spa’s Mokara Inner Glow Ritual. The ritual begins with a head-to-toe body

scrub that exfoliates skin and leaves it soft to the touch. Next, aromatic melted shea butter is painted on the body before a spa therapist envelops you in a hydrating cocoon. As your body soaks in the shea-butter goodness, enjoy a relaxing hot oil scalp treatment to accompany your chosen aromatherapy. Once unwrapped, any remaining shea butter is massaged into the skin, leaving the body hydrated and relaxed. Pricing starts at $240. Do you want the benefits of the full-body scrub and wrap but aren’t comfortable with a massage by human hands? Then head to Organic Spa Massage & Skincare to enjoy their Signature Organic Scrub and Detox Wrap with Vichy Shower Therapy. After a gentle cleansing and exfoliation with an organic sugar body scrub that will leave your skin baby soft, a European Rose Mud Wrap is applied to draw out toxins and impurities from the body. Next, enjoy a relaxing hydrotherapy session from eight massaging water jets in the Vichy Shower. Finally, an organic moisturizer is applied to leave the skin smooth and supple. Pricing starts at $99. organicspamassage.com These are just a few of the vast number of spa treatments available in Austin, so whether you’re looking for an afternoon of stress relief or seeking something more transformative, you’re sure to find one that brings on the bliss.

Happiest Happy Hours Find out why we lust over these best-loved spots!

28 WATERWAYS | February 2022

By Shelley Seale

Spring is just around the corner, and people are getting out and about again. It’s the perfect time to begin planning a happy hour strategy, and we’ve got you covered with our picks of some of the best spots to check out from West Austin to Lakeway. THE LEAGUE KITCHEN & TAVERN REASON TO GO: COOL VIBE The League serves up elevated comfort food in an elegant speakeasy setting that will let you imagine you’re sneaking a tipple during Prohibition. Their fun collection of vintage cocktails includes the Old Fashioned and French 75 alongside modern drinks such as a spicy passionfruit margarita and the refreshing Legroom—made with Aviation American gin, Richard’s Sparkling Rainwater, green chartreuse, cucumber, lime and basil (see recipe). The League happy hour features $2-off big beers and wine by the glass and $1 off spirits. Among the half-price appetizers, try the grilled wings, spinach artichoke dip or a Southern favorite, fried pickles—but The League does them differently with wing sauce and blue-cheese crumbles. In keeping with the name and theme (the Anti-Saloon League led the fight for Prohibition), celebrations are held for events such as Repeal Day with live music and drink specials. Another plus for this spot? The happy hours are longer than most, lasting until 7 p.m.

SWAY This modern, award-winning Thai restaurant not only does a great happy hour but in a space worthy of an architectural magazine. The wooden tables, walls and ceiling are embellished with cozy macrame wall hangings and soft lighting. Sway’s happy hour is generous, offering half-price on specialty cocktails, wines, beers and sake. Try one of the highly Instagrammable drink concoctions such as Bangkok’s Backbone with bourbon, crème de violette, bitters and orange swath, topped off with a lemongrass stalk (see recipe). Equally tempting are Phuket Your Troubles (mezcal, Thai basil, pineapple and lime juice) and Monk Water (vodka, watermelon, lime, cucumber, mint, cilantro and soda water). Sway even puts its own spin on a Texas favorite, the margarita, adding tamarind and chili salt.

REASON TO GO: SPECIALTY COCKTAILS

BANGKOK’S BACKBONE (FROM SWAY) Bangkok’s Backbone uses a lemongrass-demerara syrup made in-house using a Thai-style mortar and pestle. The “backbone” of the cocktail is bottled-in-bond bourbon. In Thailand, whiskey—especially American whiskey, like this one—is a highly desired liquor and the most commonly consumed spirit in the country. The concept of Bangkok’s Backbone was to blend Thailand’s love of whiskey with our love of whiskey in Texas. Try the below recipe generously provided by Sway bartender Josh Adame. 2 oz Early Times Bottled-in-Bond bourbon .25 oz lemongrass-demerara syrup (recipe below) .25 oz Crème de Violette 4 dashes of bitters

Combine all ingredients in a mixing beaker, and add ice. Stir with a barspoon. Pour over a short rocks glass with a single fat ice cube. Garnish with an orange swath and an expressed lemongrass skewer.

Lemongrass-Demerara Syrup 1:1 ratio of demerara syrup to water 6 stalks lemongrass

1. Chop lemongrass and muddle in a large mortar and pestle. 2. Add equal parts demerara syrup and water to a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer until all of the syrup is dissolved. 3. Add lemongrass to the saucepan. 4. Simmer for 15 minutes. 5. Strain, and allow time to cool. Store and serve.

THE LEGROOM (FROM THE LEAGUE KITCHEN & TAVERN) Mix: 1.5 oz Aviation American Gin .75 oz Simple Syrup .25 oz Green Chartreuse .75 oz Lime Juice 3 oz Richard’s Sparkling Rainwater

THE GROVE WINE BAR & KITCHEN REASON TO GO: VIEW AND WINE LIST This local favorite offers an attractive social hour, as they call it. Cocktails and tap beers are $2 off, and wines are on special at $5 and $10. The “Bites” happy hour menu features chicken and pork sliders, a selection of bruschetta and flatbreads, meatballs and burrata, Brussels sprouts and crispy goat cheese. All of this can be enjoyed along with views overlooking the Northwest Austin hills, so try to get a table on the lovely patio. In addition to social hour, The Grove is a great spot for brunch, and there’s a Lola Savannah Coffee Lounge inside the restaurant—perfect for those who prefer a nonalcoholic happy hour or need an afternoon pick-me-up. The Grove sources its produce from local farms and uses organic ingredients as much as possible. They also offer plentiful gluten-free and vegan menu options. And the extensive wine list features craft vino by the glass, flight or bottle.

STEINER RANCH STEAKHOUSE Stunning views are the main reason you should try the happy hour at Steiner Ranch Steakhouse. Located on land once home to rodeo horses and cattle, the atmosphere evokes the Texas history of rodeos and ranching. And the vistas, best enjoyed at sunset, provide the perfect backdrop for deciding what to order. All beers, well drinks and the house wine are discounted by a dollar at happy hour, but don’t stop there. The steakhouse offers a mouth-watering selection of dishes on the happy hour menu, including beef toronados (their signature beef tenderloin pan-seared over a toasted baguette with asiago cheese), prime rib quesadillas, crab cakes and prime rib sliders. They even do their own take on wings, using quail legs instead, tossed in a hickory-buffalo barbecue sauce and served with bleu cheese dressing. If you want to upgrade your wine to go with those gourmet appetizers, the cellar houses an extraordinary wine collection.

Pacific Wonderland Crested to the east by the Cascade Mountains and ringed on the west by the last vestiges of sunlight dripping over the Pacific Ocean, Oregon’s northwestern valleys are a fertile cradle where some of the country’s most innovative vintners are fermenting mash-ups of cold-weather grapes, gourmands are igniting their palates with regional fruit varietals and adventurers are finding their bliss amid misty cascades and rocky trails. Grab a cup of coffee to cut through the fog that coats the valley every morning, and prepare for a day full of breathtaking beauty and local flavor. In this West Coast wonderland, adventure begins by stepping out the door.

northern edge of Oregon is a natural barrier to Washington and is a breathtaking sight with 80 miles of canyon laced with a veil of waterfalls. Although reaching these scenic vistas requires taking a bit of an indirect route, it is worth detouring eastward to stop by Multnomah Falls and hike a few miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. For truly adventurous spirits, this region boasts some of the best kiteboarding and windsurfing locations in the U.S.

hills of this valley have nurtured some of America’s most legendary wines, such as those produced at award winning vineyards like Archery Summit as well as innovative cooperative winemaking operations like the James Rahn Wine Company. Rahn cut his teeth as a sommelier before transitioning into winemaking. However, instead of striking out on his own, he created a collaborative of the area’s burgeoning winemakers where experimentation is as common as tried and true recipes. Sipping his site-specific vintages of Gamay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris sends taste buds wandering through the terroir of the northern Willamette Valley. There are plenty of other wineries worth a stop, too, so don’t resist pulling over to check them out—but be prepared for some of the wettest conditions of any wine region! While wandering through the mist-covered vines, remember that the climate here is what makes tasting a never-ending adventure; this American Viticultural Area’s climate can create distinct flavor profiles for the same grapes of different vintages. >>

Wine is not the only thing that grows in Oregon. So do olives. Paul Durant studied engineering at the University of Texas before heading west to take over his family vineyard, Durant. But wine was never enough, and so it was under his tutelage that an olive grove took root in Oregon. Now, nearly 15 years later, Durant has a flourishing olive operation with several varieties used to produce vibrant oils that exhibit a unique character thanks to the unique growing conditions in a landscape with exceptional views all the way to the snow-capped peak of Mt. Although the quaint lodgings are equipped with a chef who crafts elaborate breakfasts using the farm’s bounty every morning, visitors are never far from the nature that provides the food, fun and ambiance to the region.

As delightful as the food served in Portland at the likes of Quaintrelle and Tusk can be, nothing can beat the exceptional quality of produce harvested within walking distance of a dining table. With its prolific range of agricultural bounty, the Willamette Valley underpins a large portion of this nation’s production. If you don’t believe it, take a jaunt around the Hood River Fruit Loop and stop by Draper Girls Country Farm, Kiyokawa Family Orchards and The Gorge White House Fruit Stand and Winery, where you can select from Elstar and Wolf River apples, Rainier cherries or marionberries, depending on the season. Whether you’re a dedicated connoisseur of reds or an aficionado of crisp whites in the Texas heat, those who travel on Alaska Airlines are entitled to take home a full case of wine with no baggage checking charge. Of course, taking home some dried fruit to accompany your bottles is a must, but that will have to find a spot in your carry-on bag.

MINDFULNESS

Full Spectrum Life Success How Prioritizing Relationships Makes Everything Better

By Stephanie Puente, Certified Life Coach

In the hurry-up modern culture, we have fallen into the habit of trying to prioritize everything. But at some point, doesn’t that mean we’re just doing more stuff and not prioritizing anything? We have never-ending to-do lists, we feel pressured to “do it all” and there are never enough hours in the day to accomplish everything we feel we should do. But all of us have the same 24 hours in a day, so why do some people seem to have it all and not get burned out? They have the ability to prioritize what’s important and draw a line in the sand that prevents anything from getting in the way of that. Dr. Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist and professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine, notes that the people he considers to be the true high achievers in the world aren’t those who work all the time and “do whatever it takes.” Those people, he says, eventually get burned out and desperately seek the soulful experience that they’ve been missing.

The true high achievers of the world are the people who set boundaries around their work but also make time for the people they care about as an equal priority. Why? Because the ultimate priority should be that which gives you life. And what gives human beings the most life is not just the satisfaction that comes from achieving a goal but also the pleasure we get from connecting with the people we care about. Dr. Huberman explains that there is a tangible biological reason for this. As humans, we seek the release of both dopamine and serotonin, chemical messengers that reward us with positive feelings. When we achieve goals, we get a dopamine hit, and it motivates us to keep going by making us feel good when we take steps to reach a goal. It’s why some people get addicted to work and productivity. When we spend time connecting with people we care about, cultivating our relationships and sharing experiences, we get a serotonin hit. This is why you feel “warm and fuzzy” when you’re sharing special moments with your kids, your partner or your best friends. >>

MINDFULNESS But when we do take the time to nurture our relationships, how do we make sure that we’re making that time count and everyone is getting their needs met? Studies have shown that there are six primary “love supplies” in relationships, which all relate to feeling seen and valued as a person. When your relationships provide you with these love supplies, your tank will be full. When they are lacking, it feels empty. Here they are:

1. Being Listened To This is the number one love supply. When you can sense that someone is completely listening and hearing you— not just thinking about their response—it makes you feel truly seen and valued. If you can do one thing to improve all of your relationships, it’s listening.

2. Praise and Acknowledgment This is another way of helping someone feel seen and valued. Instead of listening, you’re using your words to convey respect, appreciation or gratitude for another person.

3. Loving Touch Human beings need loving touch. Biologically, it’s a sign that we’re safe and accepted within a group. When you receive appropriate affection that is authentic and reciprocal, it makes you feel seen and valued in a visceral way that calms and soothes the nervous system. We need both dopamine and serotonin releases to be happy and fulfilled. Many of us get caught up in a loop of chasing neurological hits of these chemicals by being busy, eating processed foods, taking on extra work, looking for love in all the wrong places or all of those things. But Dr. Huberman says that high achievers can toggle seamlessly back and forth between dopamine and serotonin hits (released by achieving goals and spending time with loved ones) in a healthy, nourishing way. For example, there’s the Fortune 500 CEO who gets up at 5 a.m. and reserves the first two hours of her day for exercise, meditation and personal development. Following that routine, she is strategic about her workday, focusing on the most important tasks of the day to move the company vision forward and blocking out anything that might distract her from pursuing that objective. Then, at 6:00 every night, she turns off her phone, relaxes and enjoys quality time with her family. By having her priorities straight, she takes herself off the hamster wheel and sets herself up for what I call full-spectrum life success: having goals, being productive and taking pride in her work while simultaneously creating downtime that makes her feel nourished, connected and loved. All of us need to realize that our relationships must be a priority. Not only do healthy relationships fill up your tank with love, joy and fulfillment; they serve a deep biological need inside of you that you need to live. 48 WATERWAYS | February 2022

4. Being Supported in Your Goals and Dreams When you don’t receive support from your spouse, your boss or your peer group, it can feel isolating, lonely and defeating. This triggers a sense of not being understood and not belonging. When you receive support, however, you feel seen and valued for your ideas, dreams and who you are.

5. Receiving Loving, Constructive Feedback It can be hurtful to get negative feedback and equally as hurtful when you get no feedback at all. But when someone really cares about you, they take the time to give thoughtful feedback that is uplifting and supportive.

6. Keeping Agreements Being stood up or “ghosted” is like being abandoned. When someone says they’re going to be somewhere but don’t show up on time (or at all), they seem to be conveying the message, “You’re not important or appreciated enough for me to even show up.” But when people do show up for you, you know that you matter. By incorporating these six love supplies into your everyday life, you can create greater satisfaction in all of your relationships. And as you make love and connection a real priority, watch every area of your life improve!
