Sincenoonecanputaspecifictimetableonyourrecovery,treatmentrevolvesaroundmonitoring symptomsandhowyourbodyrespondswhenyougraduallyrampupactivities.Yourrecovery mayalsobeaffectedbyarangeoffactors,includingahistoryofmigraines,anxietyand attention-deficit/hyperactivitydisorder(ADHD) Thesedonotmeanthatyouwillnothealfroma concussion,itjustmaytakelongerandrequireatargetedtreatmentplanfromyourdoctorand physicaltherapisttospeedrecovery.

Sleephygieneiskeyinconcussionrecovery.Thoughitwillbetemptingtotakenapsthroughout theday,youshouldtrytoavoidthemandinsteadgetonaregularsleepschedulewhereyouare sleeping8hoursanight.Partofyoursleeproutineshouldinvolveavoidingcaffeineinthe afternoonandbluelightanhourbeforebed.
Yourdietmatters,too.Focusonnutritiousmealsthatarehealthyforyourbrain,includingfoods (fishandwalnuts,forexample)richinomega-3fattyacids.Stayhydrated,withanemphasison drinksthatreplenishelectrolytes Andassoonasyourbodycantolerateit,youshouldalsoreturn toexercise.Aimformoderate-intensityaerobicexercisesforatleast20minutesaday.Youmay alsobenefitfromworkingwithaphysicaltherapist,whocanhelpevaluateyoursymptomsand provideexercisesthatcanspeedyourhealing.

Ifyouhaveaphysicaljob,youmayneedlighterdutyuntilyoursymptomsareundercontrol. Ifyouworkinabrightandbusyofficethattriggersyoursymptoms,startworkingfromhome andgraduallyreturntoyournormalworkingenvironment.
Asyourecover,itisnormaltoinitiallyexperiencesomesymptomswithincreasedphysicaland cognitiveactivity Keepinmindthe3pointrule Ifanyactivityincreasesyourbaselinesymptoms abovethreepointsona10-pointscale,takeabriefbreakfromtheactivityuntilitcalmsdownto thebaseline,addaminuteandreattempttheactivity.Thisgradedapproachwillhelpyourbrain adapttotheactivityovertime.Ifyouoryourlovedoneexperiencesaconcussion,quicklyseek medicalattentionfromaproviderexperiencedinconcussioncare.
